Holy shit. So... Gravity.

Words cannot possibly articulate how phenomenal this movie is. I just got back from seeing it a few minutes ago and I'm still reeling from shock.

It's both a technical and an artistic masterpiece. A beacon of cinematic perfection. Over the past few years, I've gradually become more skeptical of movies that receive extraordinarily high reviews from critics; but Gravity wholly deserves it's marks... and then some.

I went into it with high expectations and my expectations were unimaginably exceeded. It was nuts.

What particularly stunned me, is that I'm pretty sure this is the first big-budget movie to ever give me legitimate feelings of anxiety and fear. My whole body literally shook during some key moments. It is more stressful, more terrifying, and more nerve-wracking then any horror film I've ever seen.

Director Alfonso Cuarón leveraged the power and vastness of outer-space to render some of the most nightmarish - and some of the most inspiring - movie imagery to ever appear on a screen. Experiencing it in IMAX 3D made it almost too real for me to handle.

I implore absolutely everyone to go see this movie (preferably in 3D). If you don't, then you are doing yourself a grave disservice.

The only complaint I have is that I may never see anything like it again.

Was. Fucking. Awesome.

Seriously, it was flawless. Even the 3D was great; not just not distracting, actually great...and I generally hate the shit out of 3D.

So it's like one of those 3D rides where you are immersed?

No. Comparing it to a theme park ride would be an insult. As mentioned above, the 3D doesn't serve as a gimmick; rather, it's an effective mechanic that actually supports the movie's atmosphere and scale. It adds to the experience rather than distracting from it.

I guess I should add a disclaimer: I'm a little biased... Alfonso Cauron immediately became one of my favorite directors when I first saw Children of Men a few years ago. It was right around the time when I started gaining an interest in movie-making and I was taking a couple of film-classes. My mind was blown, particularly because of the camera choreography, sound, and the other technical aspects involved in production. Like, I'd never seen a movie filmed in that way before.

I love him because even though he does some amazing things behind the lens, it's never obvious to the point of being pretentious. The movement and pacing in his films are incredibly natural. He wants you to focus on the story, but he also wants to present it in the best possible way.

I'll stop rambling though. I feel like the more I talk about it, the less interesting the movie will actually be. Just go watch it.

I'm in the same boat as you Dankk. I absolutely loved Cauron from Children of Men and had incredibly high expectations of him for this movie and to say he beat them is an understatement. This is not a fictional rehash of a movie like Apollo 13, this is a movie about the power of human survival.

I saw the 10 PM Imax 3D showing because I knew it was going to be beautiful at the very least. This is the first 3D movie where I completely forget that I was wearing 3D glasses because my mind believed I was right there watching them.

So...I have to ask, because I absolutely HATED Children of Men...I'm assuming this is nothing like that? I found it to be very boring.

I too assumed this was a toss out sci-fi bargain bin movie, so it's interesting to see it get so much praise..especially on here where everyone hates everything :D

I won't knock you for for disliking Children of Men. That movie wasn't really for everyone. And yeah, this is completely different. I would say that Gravity is much more accessible and easier to understand.

There is a pretty large group of people who shrugged off the movie because they they didn't like the trailer, which is unfortunate.

It's actually more like it then you would expect. It's a movie about human survival, which I consider Children of Men to be as well. To consider Gravity to just be a sci-fi thriller is doing it an injustice.

It's a tight 90 minutes so I doubt you're going to get bored during it. There are some points basically needed so that you can catch your breath but you're pulled in at all times. If it's not an action moment, it's the beauty of space that keeps you in the scene, and you honestly feel like you are right there next to them. Boring is the like thing someone could describe this movie as unless maybe you're watching a crappy, pirated version on your laptop in a distracting room.

Last time I looked, the Top Critics at Rotten Tomatoes had this at 100% and I can't remember the last movie I saw rated that way. We have a 5 story high IMAX here but it doesn't look like it is coming here yet. :( Do want to see it.

Screw RTs misleading rating system, it has a 97 on Metacritic after 42 reviews!! That should be the headline here, at ~50 reviews there's rarely a movie that stays that high on MC.

I have a policy of only watching movies with T&A and a car chase. Does this qualify?

I dismissed this movie because you could hear explosions in space in the trailer. Do you still hear explosions in space in the actual movie?

Is there much "shakey cam" or motion blur in this movie? Would love to go see it but my wife is fairly sensitive to that type of camera work.
