Glad to see that my thread is getting a lot of action.

Me and a buddy caught the Wrestler last night and it was very good. Rourke does an amazing job portraying a washed up 80's mega wrestler battling with physical, monetary and family issues.

I still liked Torino better. I thought the story of the Wrestler was better then Button and Slumdog but both of those movies were produced better.

I'm sure Rourke is going to give Eastwood a run for his money for best male actor at this year's Academy Awards. I also heard Penn did an amazing job in Milk but I haven't seen that film yet.

Man, I sure did see a lot of movies this past year (and into this year as well). Thankfully my local movie theater has coupons for cheap tickets.

There is one film that outdoes all those films easily.

I watched The Wrestler right after Gran Torino. The Wrestler is the only thing that redeemed my night after the awful acting that I witnessed in Torino.

Who do you think had awful acting in Torino ? Would I like the The Wrestler even if I don't like wrestling at all ?

I enjoyed GT much more than I expected from the previews. It was interesting to have such a specific Hmong storyline and insight into their culture. I grew up with a lot of Hmong kids over the years, and never really knew their culture.

Can someone PM me what it said on "the papers" that Eastwood had on his desk when he was talking to his son on the phone? I completely missed what they said. I'm pretty sure I can guess, but I was just wondering.

Edit: Question answered

You all never explain why though or who had bad acting in Gran Torino.

So you didn't like Iron Man more than this movie? Cuz I thought Iron Man blew everything else out of the water. Dark Knight included. Dark Knight was good, but just a bit too long to watch in the theater.

every asian in the movie was a horrible actor. CE was awesome, but everybody else was shit. Good movie though 🙂

iron man was the best movie I had seen in 08 prior to GT. I agree with you that Batman was just a bit too long. Ledger's performance was good but I think both Eastwood and Rourke were better.

I really didn't think the acting was that bad. 😕 I mean, I didn't expect them to act like Americans, and I don't know what to expect from a Hmong immigrant, so maybe I was just too easy on them. The only "bad acting" that really stood out to me was in the scene where the girl was being harassed by the 3 black guys. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed her lines came out the way they did because her character was frightened/nervous.

I didn't have a problem with any of the actors, including the Hmong ones. I felt like I was watching real people, and the girl especially reminded me of people i've known. I suspect that most of the people who complained are asian themselves, and that colors their perspective.

Edit:
Overall, it was an excellent movie, and Clint Eastwood deserves Kudos.

Wow I cant believe so many people thought so highly of iron man. Imo it was just another comic book movie. Another x-men or fantastic four. Nothing to deep or anything. Wasn't like there was that many big surprises either. It wasn't a bad movie but i definetly wouldn't even put it near top 5 movies of the year

It was all forced. They...spoke..like..they..were...reading..off..a..card...

The azn "gangsters" were the worst, though. I hate watching forced "thug speak" in movies or in real life.

Just got back from watching this. Theatre was packed! Great movie. Clint does an excellent job here and same with the supporting cast.

really liked it, very funny movie

Eastwood did an amazing job, however I thought many of the other actors were just terrible, especially the guy who played Toad. He did well in his non speaking rolls, but whenever he did speak it was like he was too painfully ESL and fresh off the boat. It was like he was too focused on spitting the lines out rather than actually effectively delivering them.

It was so so good. It was funny, serious, and dramatic. And I think it truly captured the way people really live, behave, and talk. It was a great movie.

I didn't care for the two Hmong actors, either. So as not to spoil anything, I'll just say that towards the end where "frog" is beating on the door was horribly bad acting. I even turned to my wife at that point and told her that was the worst acting I've ever seen. And like someone else said earlier, I felt that a lot of the lines felt pretty out of place.

Overall though, I enjoyed the movie.
