Just saw it last night myself. Yes, Sue's and Toad's acting was bordering on horrendous, but the rest of the asian actors were decent and, of course, CE was awesome as usual. Movie was pretty good.

With the exception of Heartbreak Ridge, has CE ever been in a bad movie?

I liked all the actors, even Yum Yum. Call me an Eastwood fan because I even liked that cheesy Heartbreak Ridge. 😉

I'm a Clint Eastwood fan, but as he's gotten older his voice has turned in to a coarse sounding almost whispering and sometimes hard for me to follow.

Gran Torino was ok. The sub par acting by just about everyone, except Eastwood, really took away from the movie. I loved the ending, nice twist.

Hey, I liked Heartbreak Ridge.

Clint's voice is classic.

It wasn't bad but the girl's performance reminded me of a highschool play. Tao's worse part was when he banging on the basement door.

I thought it was kind of silly whenever they would play the army drumroll during some of Eastwood's confrontation scenes.

This bothered me so much more than any of the acting.

Definitely. No one can say "Go ahead, make my day" like he can, but I just think his voice has changed due to aging/smoking and is not the same as it used be in tone. (And to clarify I believe I read he was a smoker, but had quit in 1997)

Just watched this last night. What a great movie. The only thing that could have been better was the boys acting. It was just ok. I have to admit i heard a lot of racial slurs i had not heard in a long time, but they dont bother me at all.

Watched it some time ago. Decent movie, but not a great one. Funnily, unlike most of the posters I think hmong actually acted better than Clint. Clint overdid his role too much with unrealistic facial expressions, grunts and voice ala Dark Knight which was a sticking point for many people when watching BatMan, yet the same people are willing to give Clint a pass on it. If it wasn't for the 'badass' role that Clint was supposed to be playing, his acting would have been a complete and utter failure.

However, like I said, it was one of the better movies of 2008, which is actually a sad testament to the quality of recent movies.

Haven't seen Benjamin Button yet, the short story it's based on is kind of dull and it looks like they changed plotline a lot to make it fit better for the movie, not sure how it will work out.

i thought it was WWWAYYYY overhyped and overrated like the majority of clint eastwoods movies.

the acting in the movie is just terrible. the 2 neighbor kids were terrible actors, as were the gangsters in the movie. the white thugged out kid made me laugh he was so bad.

and i just wished the neighbor kid would have at least put some damn water in his hair or something when he woke up, it was all over the place!

the movie wasn't terrible by any means, but FAR from being one of the best movies. but that's pretty typical of all these movies that are up for awards.

Agreed.

I thought Eastwood's acting sucked. It was an over-the-top characature of an aging overhyped Eastwood character of days past. I don't buy the 'I'm still dirty-harry tough but check out my sensitivity' schtik from Eastwood. His role would have been better portrayed by a smaller name actor who didn't bring such acting tough-guy baggage with him.

As for the Hmong actors, I really commend them for not having had experience in film like this before, but at this level of theatrical expectations, they sucked. The only one I found believable was the short fat gangsta dude.

Beyond the acting, it was a great story and Eastwood did good job in directing it imo.

This movie ruled! It's just Clint being an old guy saying every racial slur in the book. It was pretty cool. Living in Lowell, MA my whole life, it was kind of easy to relate to also. 4.5/5 stars

yeah, I kept laughing an dmy gf was like, "what is so funny".

I think it is the best movie I watched in 2008. If we don't count me rewatching old faves like Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I thought the Hmong kid's acting was a little subpar... but Clint was amazing and I loved the whole story. I give it a 8/10.

I watched The Wrestler right after Gran Torino. The Wrestler is the only thing that redeemed my night after the awful acting that I witnessed in Torino.

i agree. the wrestler was way better than gran torino.

You all never explain why though or who had bad acting in Gran Torino.

every asian in the movie was a horrible actor. CE was awesome, but everybody else was shit. Good movie though 🙂

I really didn't think the acting was that bad. 😕 I mean, I didn't expect them to act like Americans, and I don't know what to expect from a Hmong immigrant, so maybe I was just too easy on them. The only "bad acting" that really stood out to me was in the scene where the girl was being harassed by the 3 black guys. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed her lines came out the way they did because her character was frightened/nervous.

I agree with this. I was thinking about posting... how do you think YOU would act under the situations as an immigrant in the US. Nervous as hell. Locked in a basement? Same thing goes. However, I think that there could've been a little more emotion in some parts. But they're completely amateur, I think that they did well enough.

This movie was terrible, cool open casting for amateurs, it was like watching pee wee baseball. The actors sucked, the dialogue was worse, and Clints character seemed so contrived I wanted to shoot myself. It really was horrible. Oh man I wish I had a better relationship with my sons, but instead of changing that, I'll hand out with some recluse next door and his smart ass sister that went and got herself raped. I want my 1hr56min back...

gran torino was good, but taken was better.

Taken was a great action movie. It made you want to see him kill everyone between him and his daughter. I wouldn't say that it was better than Gran Torino but you can't really compare them.

Rented and saw Gran Torino for the first time last night. It's really good. Better than any movie I've seen this year and last year.
