I might go see this next week. It looks good, I love Clint's films, and I work one block from a major theatre.

Enjoy Benjamin Button. I just came back from seeing it. Best 3 hours I've spent in a while. It kind of felt like Magnolia, which is my favourite movie of all time.

Well, after reading this thread I think I gotta see it. Looked good anyway. I didn't get to see Quantum of Solace so I gotta see this mofo.

It was good. The ending was somewhat unexpected. I think the building of the friendship was interesting, and I loved the characters. I liked Slumdog Millionaire better, though, and would rate it the best movie of the year over Gran Torino.

It's scheduled for national release January 9th. I'm looking forward to seeing it then.

So I saw Benjamin Button the other day and I have to say it was a good movie. I read a lot of people saying it was too long but I never got that impression. The time just flew by watching it. However, the movie was NOT better then GT. The whole time I was saying to myself I think I have seen a movie like this before oh yeah - its Forrest Gump with a twist!

The movie was way worse than Forrest Gump in my opinion.

Out of all the oscar contenders out there my faves in descending order:

1. Slumdog Millionaire
2. Gran Torino
3. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
4. Defiance

Have yet to see Frost/Nixon but thats queued up on my computer ready to go. Seems like this year's batch isn't as impressive as previous years

I thought Gran Torino was pretty crappy - and as mentioned above, the Hmong actors/actresses were terrible...sure, they weren't 'pro' actors, but they did a horrible job. The part where the kid is upset that he gets locked in the basement is painful to watch.

I saw the trailer last night. After Eastwood says to one of the kids "You've got your whole life in front of you. Me, I never let anything go" or something like that, I was hooked. I want to see this movie bad.

I caught the 1:40pm showing of Gran Torino today, and damn, I didn't leave dry-eyed.

The ending wasn't too big a surprise, but it wasn't predicatble. It was a very good movie, good pacing, and a reasonable length (at 2 hours-ish, I felt it was short). My only issue is the military/drumbeat music that they used a bunch of times, and the "grin/red-face" thing.

I still like Benjie more though.

i thought it was WWWAYYYY overhyped and overrated like the majority of clint eastwoods movies.

the acting in the movie is just terrible. the 2 neighbor kids were terrible actors, as were the gangsters in the movie. the white thugged out kid made me laugh he was so bad.

and i just wished the neighbor kid would have at least put some damn water in his hair or something when he woke up, it was all over the place!

the movie wasn't terrible by any means, but FAR from being one of the best movies. but that's pretty typical of all these movies that are up for awards.

I agree with you I hated the acting of the two kids..it was horrible. I did like the movie but in places, the way the lines were delivered just sounded outa place.

Now Slumdog Millionaire I loved.

Oh, I forgot to add that they had a long version of the Terminator Salvation trailer before this movie began. Holy shit. I had to restrain myself from squealing like a little girl.

I agree with everything coinz said, including slumdog

Yeah Slumdog Millionaire was good but I liked Let The Right One In better. Not to say Slumdog Millionaire wasn't a great movie though. They are similar in some ways though. Both about young love.

Gran Torino was a fine film as well and I did not expect the ending at all. I enjoyed it I just don't think it is worthy of being the best film of 2008.

I don't want to give any spoilers away - PM me and we can discuss it if you like.

So the wife and I caught the 7pm showing of Slumdog last night and I have to say it was pretty good - still not as good as Torino in my opinion.

Both Slumdog and Button were basically chick flicks while Torino was a chick flick told from a man's point of view - if I can dumb them down to their cores. There were a couple things in Slumdog and Button that didn't make sense or weren't explained.

Each brought something different to the table. The only trouble I had with Slumdog and Button was that they reminded me of movies I had already seen Forrest Gump and The Kite Runner. Not that they were exactly the same movie but they just had the same feel. Just my opinion - I'm not a movie critic and I'm sure people will disagree with me.

My ratings of those movies would go like:
1. Gran Torino
2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
3. Slumdog Millionaire

Edit: Next movie will be the Wrestler but I'm not sure the wife will want to go since I heard Marisa Tomei is nude in it.

I agree with you that Slumdog Millionaire wasn't as good as Gran Torino. Though neither are the best picture of the year by a long shot. Still both films are very much worth seeing.
