Heh. Sad, but almost true!

Actually, it wasn't that tough, but you do have to pass a battery of safety and competency tests (minor) and the feds do a thorough background check.

Probably. I'll probably feed it a hundred rounds or so but you're right... it'll be a safe queen more than anything. I'll probably use the Norinco when I get it as my shooter. Ironic, as the Norinco is arguably more rare than the SP1, but it ain't a Colt.

More or less, yes... with the exception that the A1 when it was issued to troops it had forward assist. Otherwise, it is basically a dead ringer for the Vietnam era M16s. They were produced starting in 1964. My AR-15 SP1's serial dates it to around 1972. So, it's about as old as me.:)

I own a freaking arsenal Sold the mini-Glock the other day, still haven't decided on a replacement.

Was just getting anxious cuz no one had flamed yet:)

wow, what is that bad boy on the top?

man, if i saw someone with something like that i'd get pretty nervous... then i'd consider how much that person might be compensating for something...

Nope not compensating (looks in shorts to double check)

It's a Savage 10FP in .308, Ultimate Varmit stock, Harris tilting bipod, el crappo Bushnell scope. I had a blast building it up. A lot of police officers do double duty as snipers, etc, if they have to buy their own gun, they pick the Savage. If the dept is paying for it they buy much more exotic stuff.

Savage Arms

Moose, 12bvlss is where its at. BTW I have had GREAT luck with Simmons aetec line of scopes. Use one on my BAR that Is my BABY.

12bvlss?

Edit-

Ok the 12bvss You a lefty?

No BUT I am left eye dominant which BLOWS. All the rounds fly past me on semi autos, and the actional 270 win will fall into the shirt. (1 in 100 maybe) But theres no arguin that me and my dad are both really good shots. I cant WAIT for my savage to come in. I wanna blow some damn coyotes up.

Yea, I shoulda bought an AR-15 back before the ban. Instead I bought a stainless steel .44mag Ruger Redhawk. It was a tossup between the Redhawk and a Colt M1911A1. With the AR-15 coming at a later time. Oh well. :D

I wish i had someplace to go shooting. all the great outdoor ranges here in the Denver area have closed down due to re-zoning for new houseing developments.

Im an excellent shot with an M-16 and loved shooting it. now cleaning it is a total bitch.

Our SET team is getting a shipment of M4s in shortly...bumping up from the MP5s that some of the guys carry. I doubt they'll let me test one out, though. :(

An ar-15? ON MI whitetail 12 pointers and above I havent heard of anyone shooting smaller than a .243 win. .223 is almost crulety unless you get a perfect neck/head/lung/heart shot, with no bones stoping it.

Unless we are talking about the rodents that Southerners call "deer", a weapon firing a 5.56mm bullet can hardly be considered "the sh!t for killing deer". If I were to make a long list of preferred weapons to use while deer hunting, the AR-15 would not be on it. The AR-10, maybe, because there is a huge difference between 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm. Technically, it's adequate. But technically, you could kill someone with a derringer firing a 22 Short (even though the most effective way would be to sharpen the front site and try to slash them ;) ). That doesnt mean I recommend using that when their are other options.

Now, admittedly I did take an AR-15 hunting deer in South Carolina once, but a) Southern deer are tiny compared to the whitetails I'm used to in Ohio (though Ohio mandates you use a shotgun if you want to use a modern long arm), and b) I had no other option unless I wanted to use a Glock 23.

And speaking of deer in ohio and hunting, I saw 9 deer on I-71 between Cleveland and Columbus. Nine. And the enviro-hippies are arguing to restrict hunting even more than it now is. Because obviously it is more humane to hit one with your car than to shoot it.

My mistake, it must have been a different gun that served a pratical purpose.

It is possible it was an AR-10.

Im not flaming. Just statinga fact, even the handload rimfires with more power than 5.56 are banned in MI (rimfire)..

Went to Walmart and saw some weird ass bullets that I only dreamed exist. A really small .22 round with a bottleneck shape and it was very pointy. I dont even think it was .22 but more like .18 or something. And the slug itself was about 5mm long. How weird and Id like to see the gun that shoots that thing. SecurityArms.com is my preferred site for everything gunz!

Looks like it's going to die too. It'll be interesting to see what effect this'll have on the firearms industry.

Im guessing they are gonna start to retool their machines soon. Hi-cap clips should be back in full force within a month of it ending. Other than that, it really hasn't done a whole lot. You can bet your ass many people are going to be throwing on collapsable stocks if possible. I'm just waiting for the Hi-cap clips myself...but if the Daley-Blog machine has their way in IL, I wont be able to even own my guns anymore. :|:|:|:|:|

The Brady Bill is what bans high capacity magazines. I'm pretty sure that's not going away, right?

One in the same.

Do you guys use the same ammo as we do in the military? 5.56mm NATO ball if i recall correctly...

Because it always seemed to me that 'civilian' versions of ammo didnt have that pointy tip to them...

The Assault Weapons Ban was an executive order as I recall. No gun can have more than 2 of the "assault" traits, ie: pistol grip, detachable magazine, collapsible stock, flash supressor. I didn't think it had anything to do with the Brady Bill.

EDIT: I was wrong.
