I'd be worried about a bent frame and never having proper alignment ever again.

Are you stupid or something?

HOw is that stupid? fender benders can cause frame damage on the near oppisite end of the car. I would not be surprised if one of the doors in the back did not open as smoothly as it did before the accident.

Exactly. Look at the pictures. He wasted that car. No car is ever the same after an accident and that's why you avoid buying used cars from chop and pop dealers.

I've actually been into a very similar accident to his. I rear ended an SUV while trying to stop on my miata, and hit it at about 5-10mph. My airbags did not deploy, but my hood was entirely crushed.

The damage is actually nowhere near as bad as it looks, since the car actually mostly went under the SUV, so most of the impact was absorbed into the hood. That's why the hood is so bent out of shape, but the rest of the frame(think bumper), is fine.
Mine costed $3000 to fix though. The hood on the miata is aluminum and costs a pretty penny, and I had the headlamps switched to the newer projector style.

Was their fractures and cracks on your engine?

HE BLEW HIS FLOORBOARDS OUT WITH NAWS!

no cracks, no nothing, engine wasnt even touched by the impact !
thats why im not going to trash my car, aftermarket parts are coming to $450 or so
which is CHEAP...and im hoping it looks straight after that as well !

Is that painted or base color? they will cost extra to paint and install the parts as well as color matching etc. That is why the cost estimate is so high.

no he's getting a ricer carbon fiber hood and installing it himself w/ a set of tools from craftsman, and some bondo for the body. btw if you decide to fix it, are you just giving the finger to the insurance company?

Not really, they will give you a price for 'if you buy it back'...you can then take that settlement and do whatever. However, I believe in all cases your car gets flagged on the title as such.

In a case like this it doesn't really matter. I'd try to do this in this case. He can probably rebuild the car and do some fun modifications. The car is a rare one in the sense of it's better than average condition.

If my 1998 240SX got totaled I'd buy it back and rebuild as well.

that doesn't make much sense that means they are paying you to keep the car right?

not really they end up paying out a little less. You 'buy' it back.

In most insurance claims you are keeping your car and they are paying you though...

When the car is totaled, and the insurance doesn't fix it. Don't they usually sell it for parts to recoop their loses?

So you can pay deductible and you get your car fixed... insurance pays repair shop
you can have your car totalled and then get your check for cost of car ... you lose car
you can have your car totalled (~4000) and then buy back your car (~4000) ... i think you wouldn't get money at all.

the "totallage" of your car based on the condition of your car prior to the accident. i just don't understand why you would get money back and still maintain your car. i know when cars are totalled they are sold at auction. i just dont understand how you buy it back and get money.

JESUS I don't get how some get through life.

When your car is totaled it's value is not the insured value, but much much less. Some companies may even total the car and let you keep it without asking for a buy back.

Usually it's around $500 or so. So you get $4000 and hand back $500 to the insurance company basically.

Also I haven't seen totaled cars at auctions...I have seen some with salvage titles, but most are intact cars. I haven't been to many auctions though. I have never heard of someone seeing a 'carcass' there though.

Today was the worst day for me ever, i was coming back from work in my car, driving around going back home, all of a sudden a blue ford explorer stops in front of me, and i slam my brakes, and then i hear crazy noises.
i had hit the explorer from the rear. I was extremely sad that i had hit my car and i got into a accident, and as much as i love my car, i didnt want it to happen, now im 19, but i started crying.
Its my first car, etc. etc. etc. facebook links...

Are you sure? I would not have pegged you at 19.

So, I had a little car accident earlier this week. It wasn't bad; I just tapped a SUV in front of me at a red light, but still...they're always a hassle.

The shocker, though, was that when the other driver jumped out, he was a dwarf (ok, midget )....

Anyway, he stomped over to my car (not even giving me a chance to get out) and yelled at me through my open window, "I'm not Happy!!!" I responded, "Ok, so which one are you???!"

WRONG. my car was recently totalled, a 1995 izusu rodeo. the kelly blue book was about ~3.5k. i got ~3.5k back from insurance. i called the lady who was my claims adjuster, she says that yes i could have got credit for buying it back i would have received the car and a much smaller check. cool i never knew i could do that.

Yeah
its crazy stuff.
Im hoping to get it back soon...per say the insurance company
I have records that show over $7700 spent on the car in maintenance, service etc.
im hoping these help to get my car back !

How much did you buy it back for?

If the parts cost you ~$600, how did you pay only $200 for labor, paint, etc at the shop?

Dude if I had a 93 Accord with 200,000 miles I'd be begging my insurance company to total it.

So, OP? No answer to how you paid $600 for parts alone and managed to get all the repairs done for $800 including the cost of parts?

I still say SHENS
