hopefully so
im not in the mood to go look for another car either.
i will buy it back probably if they total it...and get it fixed.
i didnt cry for real...its my first car, and i went to another state just to get it.
its of sentimental value...ill show pics before the accident...and you would agree the car was in pristine condition.

It is in good condition, but that doesnt change the fact that its a 15 yr old car with close to 200,000 miles on it. Just cause it had shiny paint and a nice coat of wax that does not mean its worth more then what KBB values it at. And I am almost certain that whatever the KBB value is will be less than what it will cost to fix. In other words, its going to be declared a total loss

i think i have an option at the bodyshop to go with aftermarket...i might do that....itll save money
and my car will be fixed.

You can't just guess what parts it needs and look that up. You don't know what kind of damage it has under the hood.

odds are you are missing a lot. its going to cost far more then $600 hell the hood has to cost that alone.

Its not that you have a option for aftermarket. They prefer to use that (insurance) you have a option on orginal equipment. wich is far better.

if you love this car why would you want aftermarket?

oh you keep saying it was in pristine shape. a 12 yr old vehicle is not in pristine shape with nearly 200k miles

I'd be worried about a bent frame and never having proper alignment ever again.

Hmmm....I hope he realizes that if you totals the car, that means the car is not his. OP, If you choose to keep the car, then it will not be totaled and you will not get a check. If you do total the car, good luck buying it back. They will write it off and it will be auctioned off. To go to those car auctions, you usually need to buy a license to participate. Looking at the car, it looks like there is frame damage. Fixing that frame alone the right way will cost you atleast $600, and that is only aligning everything in the front.

Are you stupid or something?

HOw is that stupid? fender benders can cause frame damage on the near oppisite end of the car. I would not be surprised if one of the doors in the back did not open as smoothly as it did before the accident.

Because it's a given.

So the bumper must be hit for the air bag to deply? There isnt a sensor which detects how quickly you're slowing down? So... there's like a button in the bumper that needs to be pushed?

I disagree... some aftermarket stuff is nice. But the nicer stuff ain't cheaper (and sometimes just not available).

And I too saw the thread expecting massive damage.

Depends I think. When my camry was totaled, Progressive (the driver at fault's insurance company... they had to pay out for 3 totaled cars at least) gave me two options... just under 5k, they keep the car, or 3k or something and I keep the car. It was drivable, but it looked like the engine shifted, and the back end was mostly bondo anyway (previous owner, I did not know it, n00b used car buyer).

Exactly. Look at the pictures. He wasted that car. No car is ever the same after an accident and that's why you avoid buying used cars from chop and pop dealers.

the frame didnt get bent...reason :
the front is a subframe - Radiator Support. That is the whole front, it is seperate from the entire fram, and can be changed easily. The doors all open fine. Regarding the airbag, the airbag blows ONLY when the bumper is hit, there is a sensor in the bumper that turns on the airbag, bumper didnt get hit AT ALL...thus no airbad deployment. The car is in pristine condition in regards to exterior, interior, and mechanical. The car drove EXCELLENT, very powerful, and potent. There were no leaks etc of any sort. The transmission shifted smoothly, The tires were all new, CVs and everything were new, so thats why the car was in excellent shape, if anyone looked at the pics i had in the link (not the facebook one) then you can tell how good the car was
ill post it again

Insurance called today
they said there is no frame damage on the car.
they gave a estimate for $3028....and that was by the shop
insurance is also sending a guy to check it out as well
insurance also said that if you have records on the car (service etc)
that would help increase the value of the car
i gor records, which all together combine for $8000 spent on the car in the past 15 years
so that has to help.

I've actually been into a very similar accident to his. I rear ended an SUV while trying to stop on my miata, and hit it at about 5-10mph. My airbags did not deploy, but my hood was entirely crushed.
pic
The damage is actually nowhere near as bad as it looks, since the car actually mostly went under the SUV, so most of the impact was absorbed into the hood. That's why the hood is so bent out of shape, but the rest of the frame(think bumper), is fine.
Mine costed $3000 to fix though. The hood on the miata is aluminum and costs a pretty penny, and I had the headlamps switched to the newer projector style.

Was their fractures and cracks on your engine?

Not at all... don't see why there would be.
Almost all of the impact energy was pretty much absorbed by the crumple of the soft aluminum hood.

I guess the accident I had (pics on page 2), was very different than yours. My Engine had these cracks all over it after the accident.

Yeah I just saw yours. It looks like you basically rammed into a wall, so that the entire car took the energy of the impact.
Do you have any pics of the cracks?

nope, if you see the one picture it looks like something is covering the lens, well most of them turned out like that. Aparently I can't take pics because my finger was covering the lens up. Yes I rammed into a median on the freeway after spinning out of controle from 70 mph or so. No idea the speed that I hit the wall at though. The car would have cost over $8000 to fix (declared totaled and it was valued at $8000 then).
