The price is set globally. Prices are up and demand is down big in the US. China and India are driving up the price through usage.

Its another reason they were exporting refined gas for awhile because we had excess refinery capacity, and so now some are shut down. Big deal. The price has and always will be determined by global geopolitical factors, not really economic ones.

If you think that is a farce then welcome to the real world I guess. Iran, China, India, etc. all play shenanigans to get as much oil as possible.

The average price for a regular gallon has jumped more than 17 cents, or 5.2%, from a week ago – the fastest weekly rate in nearly two years, according to AAA.


The last time prices increased as quickly in one week was in 2011, when the average price jumped 18.4 cents, or 5.6%, during the week of Feb. 25 through March 4, according to Michael Green, an AAA spokesman.
Prices have now climbed for 18 days in a row, he said, rising in response to climbing crude-oil prices and “as refineries conduct seasonal maintenance and begin the transition to summer blends of gasoline.”

The system is backwards.


Instead of getting rewarded for incompetence they should be forced to lower the price thus getting lower profits while they are being incompetent.


When they demonstrate the ability to produce the product adequately then they could return to normal profits.

Texas is projected to hit a state average of $4/gallon by June. It will be the first time the state of Texas has hit a state average of $4+.

Edit: China owns the lease rights and will help develop the wells (using US workers) and then sell the oil to the US, taking in the profit. While I would like the profit to remain in the US, at least the workers are from here and the oil is going here.

Its more complicated than that. But in the end its just a farm out agreement that more or less turns into a joint operating agreemtn and its not really a big deal.

Basically Sinochem Petrolum USA LLC is giving Pioneer $500million in cold hard cash, and will be paying 75% of Pioneers drilling/development expenses up $1.2billion. Sinochem gets a 40% undivided interest in Pioneers Wolfcamp Shale play, but only the Wolfcamp Shale play, which means Pioneer maintains anything above the Wolfcamp Shale Play depth.

This allows Pioneer to rapidly develop the Wolfcamp Shale play with 371 new wells over 3 years. Their development expenses will be extremely low, while the amount of oil they will be pumping will skyrocket. It is a win-win for them and is a very favorable deal. If an American company ponied up the money, Pioneer would have went with them.

Japex similarly bought into the Eagle Ford Shale play(biggest shale play in Texas) and Oil India wants in too.

The service business is extremely competitive, if the refineries aren't seeing reliability of their equipment they use another company. If I wasn't providing services that ensure reliability of equipment my company would release me and find someone else who could do the job.

I was relocated to the Houston area and have been promoted twice in the last 4 years. Why would any company do this with someone who is incompetent or not doing their job? They wouldn't, I would have be fired just like you were years ago.
