And everything you get at those stores is cheaper at many other online retailers....

I see Wal Mart isn't on that list :(

Don't be mistaken by Dave's crocodile tears. He doesn't really actually care why some US retail businesses are cutting retail stores so long as he can use their plight to prop up his flawed statements.

The price is set globally. Prices are up and demand is down big in the US. China and India are driving up the price through usage.

Its another reason they were exporting refined gas for awhile because we had excess refinery capacity, and so now some are shut down. Big deal. The price has and always will be determined by global geopolitical factors, not really economic ones.

If you think that is a farce then welcome to the real world I guess. Iran, China, India, etc. all play shenanigans to get as much oil as possible.

Gas Prices Continue To Climb, Highest Ever For Early February

The Triple A Chicago says this is a new record: the highest gasoline price ever for the beginning of February.

Prices at many stations in the city are well above $4 a gallon.

According to chicagogasprices.com, you’ll pay $4.29 at the Mobil station at Chicago and Kedzie.

The Triple A blames this unusual winter spike on rising oil prices – they getting close to $100 a barrel – as well as area refinery issues.

http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetel...rise-at-fastest-rate-in-almost-two-years-aaa/

Gasoline prices rise at fastest rate in almost two years: AAA

The average price for a regular gallon has jumped more than 17 cents, or 5.2%, from a week ago – the fastest weekly rate in nearly two years, according to AAA.

The last time prices increased as quickly in one week was in 2011, when the average price jumped 18.4 cents, or 5.6%, during the week of Feb. 25 through March 4, according to Michael Green, an AAA spokesman.
Prices have now climbed for 18 days in a row, he said, rising in response to climbing crude-oil prices and “as refineries conduct seasonal maintenance and begin the transition to summer blends of gasoline.”

================================================

The system is backwards.

Instead of getting rewarded for incompetence they should be forced to lower the price thus getting lower profits while they are being incompetent.

When they demonstrate the ability to produce the product adequately then they could return to normal profits.

The system was so designed that having one bank as a monopoly will be the only way for it to survive. It was designed that way for a reason.

Question
How many mines do the US have that produce gold?

Poor Dave McOwned doesn't understand that the refineries are beginning to change over to summer blends so this is the appropriate time to shut down for maintenance.

This is something they have to do every year.

So this is a built in excuse to raise prices for the hell of it?

It's not right.

You cannot justify this in any way shape or form.

Gas costs claim largest share of American income in 30 years

Americans spent a bigger share of their household income on gasoline in 2012 than at any point in the past 30 years — even though they were driving shorter trips in more fuel-efficient vehicles, with total gasoline sales in 2011 of 134 billion gallons reaching the lowest level since 2001.

The only idiot typing is you.

Those summer blends they have to make every year and certainly should be able to provide a product expected of them without coming up with any excuse.

Any excuse should be punished with lower prices and profit until they learn how to run their business properly.

They should NOT be rewarded for incompetence and excuses.

Given your employment history you have no grounds to opine on incompetence and excuses.

This something they do twice a year (winter and summer blends) to be in compliance with federal regulations.

Exactly and something they should know how to do by now without incompetence and excuses but clearly that is not the case.

Has to be the faulty equipment, installations and incompetent service you provide.

Dave's $5/gallon national average is likely to happen this year.

Texas is projected to hit a state average of $4/gallon by June. It will be the first time the state of Texas has hit a state average of $4+.

The article states it will create jobs for US workers and help reduce foreign dependance on oil. Are they buying this and producing the oil for US use or for export?

Edit: China owns the lease rights and will help develop the wells (using US workers) and then sell the oil to the US, taking in the profit. While I would like the profit to remain in the US, at least the workers are from here and the oil is going here.

Its more complicated than that. But in the end its just a farm out agreement that more or less turns into a joint operating agreemtn and its not really a big deal.

Basically Sinochem Petrolum USA LLC is giving Pioneer $500million in cold hard cash, and will be paying 75% of Pioneers drilling/development expenses up $1.2billion. Sinochem gets a 40% undivided interest in Pioneers Wolfcamp Shale play, but only the Wolfcamp Shale play, which means Pioneer maintains anything above the Wolfcamp Shale Play depth.

This allows Pioneer to rapidly develop the Wolfcamp Shale play with 371 new wells over 3 years. Their development expenses will be extremely low, while the amount of oil they will be pumping will skyrocket. It is a win-win for them and is a very favorable deal. If an American company ponied up the money, Pioneer would have went with them.

Japex similarly bought into the Eagle Ford Shale play(biggest shale play in Texas) and Oil India wants in too.

You should start your own oil refinery and show them how to do it right.

No it's not. Feel free to bump this on 12/31/2013.

Natural gas. With all that crap spewing from him he could probably fuel half the US.

The service business is extremely competitive, if the refineries aren't seeing reliability of their equipment they use another company. If I wasn't providing services that ensure reliability of equipment my company would release me and find someone else who could do the job.

I was relocated to the Houston area and have been promoted twice in the last 4 years. Why would any company do this with someone who is incompetent or not doing their job? They wouldn't, I would have be fired just like you were years ago.
