Thought for the day: The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy helps illustrate just how dependent we are on oil. If we ever run out or the supply dwindles and the price skyrockets, we're f'd.
Yep, if something happened to the grid to take out power for, say, a third of the US for a couple of weeks it would be mad max by the end of it.

I watched a B-movie thriller film the other night called Tooth and Nail. The background premise is that when the world ran out of oil, a mass die-off occurred, leaving a small group of people in a hospital surrounded by a band of cannibals. As crazy as it sounds, the apocalypse that creates the Mad Max scenario might not be nuclear war or a killer virus, but an oil shortage.

An acute and immediate oil shortage (e.g. like after hurricane sandy except affecting far more people) absolutely would spell the end of civilization as we know it now, though I think even if peak oil occurs it will be more a gradual pain.

If the loss of power brings on a real life Mad Max situation due the lack of fuel pumping abilities the same will be true for electric cars that depend on this same electric grid for charging.

Actually, people with EVs will live like kings. They will have great camps of slaves harnessed to stationary bikes to charge their cars and ride around in their cars while everybody else is limping along or riding old bikes or riding starving horses. They will also body build, wear a hockey mask, and have a pistol in a nice wooden case with velvet lining.

Based on his thread in alienbabeltech forum crying about doppel being the chosen one in AT P&N, possibly idontcare's alt account, I would say he's been banned. McOwned has a 10 page thread in honor of doppel. It's a damned good read......LMAO!!!!!!!

Gas prices soar in Chicago area due to problems at Whiting refinery

Gas prices in Chicago and across the state of Illinois have jumped anywhere from 25 to 40 cents a gallon the past few days.

Fuel prices at a number of stations in the Chicago area have risen over $4 per gallon mark

Industry analyst Phil Flynn told FOX 32 News Tuesday morning the increase of problems at a refinery in Whiting, Indiana is to blame.

The refinery was shut down for maintenance, and production was cut by a third. There is no word yet on how long it will take to complete that work

The thread starter still looks like a fool. Gas hasn't gone up like he said.

On a related note, I just paid $7.50 a gallon for racing fuel, 100 octane, and 100% gas. I only buy 100% gas anyways, ethanol sucks. But 100 octane is just even better.

The first post in this thread was back in December 2010 when gas prices were on their way towards the $4/gallon mark. I'm glad that the prices have come down some, but they'll probably jump up again sooner or later. Perhaps the renewed Israeli-Palestinian strife will push up the prices.

Still well over $4 a gallon at least a dozen stations in the downtown city of Chicago core.

Station are around the $3.57 mark where I am 40 miles west of the city.

The assholes on here that dispute this can come here and blow my cock.

I paid $1.219/L filling up last night, about $4.61/Gal. There was a rumour going around economic circles that we could see $1.00/L prices by Christmas but that's seemingly evaporated. Prices have dropped about ten cents over the past couple of months though.

Waiting on the blow job, you can afford the gas because it's cheap by you.

If you need a blowjob go to downtown Chicago. I'm sure you can find someone there that would be willing to give you one, though their fees maybe more expensive due to the high gas prices in the city. Be sure to fill up in Elgin so you don't have to pay $0.50+/gal to fill up in Chicago.

Gas down nationally about 23 cents it he last month. Shouldn't be any big upward pressure for a few months at least now.
