Hurricane Sandy to drive gas prices lower through Election Day, rest of 2012

Despite long lines at gas stations in New Jersey, Hurricane Sandy is likely to drive gas prices lower for Election Day.

Analysts expect the storm will drive gas prices lower than pre-storm estimates for the rest of the year due to "demand destruction."

Put simply, the storm hit gas consumers, not producers, and will take an enormous amount of gasoline consumption offline.

Sandy could push gasoline prices below AAA’s pre-storm estimate of between $3.40 and $3.50 per gallon for Tuesday's election, Avery Ash, manager of regulatory affairs with AAA, told The Hill.

“The storm hit in an area with major gasoline consumers rather than gasoline producers,” said Ash. Hurricane Katrina, in contrast, shut down major Gulf Coast refineries in 2005.

I have colleagues that work in Naperville so I can find out if the prices are spiking in the Chicago area within minutes. I sent them an email and their reply was that the prices spiked $0.20 to $0.30 a gallon in the past week, not this imaginary $0.70 a gallon you claim. Chicago gas price website confirms this as well.

I cannot imagine why you keep harping on Chicago proper gas prices. It's the city dude, gas is going to be higher there. It's also Chicago, and also in Crook Co. You should expect higher gas prices than normal there. Don't like it? Go complain to the Dem's/Prog's running sh1t here, they've been in total control for decades, so you're getting to see your utopia in action.

Please quit with quoting city gas prices, they are next to meaningless.

Gas is down $.03 to $3.12 here in Des Moines city proper. (Oh and its that way outside the city too, fyi).

Anyone telling you the difference between Naperville and within Chicago city limits for fuel is $.40 is a lying fucking asshole.
