Got a letter from the city about weeds on my lawn

The city sent you this? I thought only HOA can pull this type of shit.

No, and it's another reason why hoa shit is stupid. Most of the common sense items are either already part of your local ordance list or could easily be added to it.

If you don't like mowing a lawn, re-landscape accordingly... otherwise get off your ass or move into an apartment. Judging by a lot of your post counts, you have ample time to do a little landscaping...

Most of us probably need our fat asses out mowing our own lawns instead of supporting the illegals.

Around here, even the illegals want $75/mo. or more to mow and edge a small lawn. The legal Mexicans are a bit higher, and the actual lawn care businesses are $125/mo. or more.

Sure, it'll start to spike, and go to seed. If there weren't so many whiners in the world, that would be an efficient, and ecological way of filling in your yard if it got thin.

My thinking too.

In the Spring I let it grow until the seeds sprout etc before I mow for the 1st time. Luckily no one around me complains.

I would love to re-landscape, but I also heard that in some places a certain percentage of your land has to be grass? I don't know what I'd do with the front lawn if it weren't grass... minefield?

I have reported my neighbor across the street a couple of times. Lazy bastard never mows his yard, rakes up the leaves, and always parks his POS car in front of my house.

It's called being a rat...not reported, but ratted out...

After he posted that I regretted mowing yesterday. I have some bare spots that had longer grass growing around them that I think were starting to sprout seeds at the tips. I keep planting grass seed, but it's sand so even with our irrigation system running 2 hours each morning, it doesn't keep up and the seeds keep going to waste. I've even tried covering the seeds with lawn clippings.

Oh well, there is always next spring to try again.

If you find out it was a neighbor that complained, freeze some roundup in ice cube trays and see how randomly you can distribute the cubes on his lawn late some night.

Get your soil tested. $7. Wrong ph or no nutrients you won't be able to grow rocks.

I have 1/3 acre lot in my neighborhood, mow every 3 days. My yard is pretty close to perfect, it helps that i have trugreen come out every 4 - 6 weeks and load it with chemicals too. I feel better knowing my neighbors feel bad when they see my yard compared to theirs.

I fertilize 4 times a year (Scotts 4 Step Program), but I'll check it out. Is it just a kit you purchase to test it?
The local extension office. There are several places that sell fertilizer, lime, etc that also do it. One of ours is free because they hope you'll buy your chemicals from them. They can provide you with bags so you get the right amount in each sample.

Depending on your lawn size, several samples, cup sized.

In my area the city doesn't bother with such things unless somebody specifically complains about them. Sounds like a neighbor doesn't like you or your lawn very much.

lol it's your private property, as long as it doesn't go out in the street andrespects the height limits that trees have to respect too, why should it be a problem?

Because a bunch of nosy peckerwoods want to be in other peoples business. They want to dictate how we live on every level. This is just another intrusion.

Local historic society threatened me with $400 fine or 30 days in jail because I put up a picket fence without their permission. F*ck them. TBH, I did tell one of their commissioners that she could shove her permit up her a**.
