Got a letter from the city about weeds on my lawn

Besides the few dandelions that I've gotten rid of already there really are no weeds on my front lawn. I did let the small amount of grass that isn't dead yet grow a bit high because I didn't have a lawn mower. That's probably why I got the notice. My lawn has been cut for almost 2 weeks now and although it needs some patching in the dead areas I don't think they'll continue to have a problem on the next visit.

I have reported my neighbor across the street a couple of times. Lazy bastard never mows his yard, rakes up the leaves, and always parks his POS car in front of my house.

Many cities have ordinances requiring grass to be maintained below a certain height. In my city it's 12" , they will send you one warning and if don't respond they will dispatch a city crew to mow your yard for you and send you a $300 fine.

LOL,

He has reported me multiple times for putting my yard waste on the street too early. Our trash collection is on Wednesdays, and we are not supposed to put yard waste out until 24 hours of collection. I've put lawn clippings and leaves out on Sunday before, but at least I mow my yard :).

Woah, does grass even stand up at 1ft?

Sure, it'll start to spike, and go to seed. If there weren't so many whiners in the world, that would be an efficient, and ecological way of filling in your yard if it got thin.

Yep. This ordinance includes weeds, rubbish or piles of dirt. The type of grass I have grows this long stem with seeds at the top. Gets almost knee high.

At a previous house I owned, the city enforced over 6 inches, but usually only enforced if someone complained. They said 9 inches was ok in certain areas of the yard (not seen by the street).

Grass can typically grow to 2 feet, but it depends on the grass type. When it gets long it starts to look like wheat with their little fuzzy seeds at the top.

They'd fine you $150 a week until the problem was fixed.

Edit - I moved to the country. I can do whatever the heck I want now.
