Want to see some scary news, according to msn money the asking price of GM is 9.52! That can't be right!?!

You can ask for $100 as the ask. Doesn't mean you're going to get it.

That I actually understand Naustica, but that asking price is FUBAR IMO

Why? It's just some person who put 9.52 as the asking price afterhours on their 200 shares. It could've been someone from this thread. :D

Maybe not. People here seems to buy like in 10 share quantities. :)

10K shares?

What price did you buy them at Pliablemoose?
Hopefully not at $29 a share.

IMHO, anytime is a good time to sell GM at the moment, because GM doesn't have a game plan for the long haul. They will be burdent with a growing debt load, and they don't have the vision to lean down to be competitive.

Also, what do people think of GM v. Ford? What's the better run long term and short term? I feel like I should dump my cash into one instead of betting half cash on both.

Ford is financially stronger, but GM is bigger and has more room for growth. So, Ford would be a safer investment, but GM has more potential.

Also, as Warrent Buffet said, invest when people are fearful, sell when people are confident. This is a GREAT time to invest because stocks are at rock bottom prices.

Yes, but Warren Buffett didn't say one should be foolish in doing so either.
And in case you haven't noticed, Warren Buffett isn't buying GM or F stock.

4.90 or so, I'll be selling pretty soon, the market is too doggone volatile to buy & hold right now...

better sell and take your profits because hopefully no more tax payer money will be wasted on GM.

News over the weekend:

Congress says money will be a bridge loan, and not a handout. This pretty much locks in the aid. I'm betting GM is going to skyrocket this morning. I would buy early to take the ride :)

Anybody using sharebuilder? I placed a limit order at 3.20 Yesterday night for 200 shares. How long does it usually take before your purchase because active on sharebuilder.com? Also, how often are stocks updated? I know markets opened at 9:00AM EASTERN TIME, but what are the delay time frames?

Ford has more capital to work with I believe. They announced today that they may sell off Volvo.

I totally agree. Let's see what happens tomorrow. I might be out as well.

I walked away from my computer for 15 minutes or so when GM topped out at 5.75, ended up holding onto it. Had I been at my desk when the stock was peaking today, I definitely would have sold my entire position in GM

Day trading. That's what left for most of these stocks that fluctuate by the hour. If you you're not looking for growth then I suggest making a few lucky guesses in your option trading.

Like others sad, it's not a buy and hold market for short term gains. I'm not willing to invest over 1k in one stock to settle for a 5% gain if im lucky. I would have to do this on a daily basis to make any noticeable gain and I have neither the time, patience, or luck.

Well, GM closed at $4.85 today... I wonder when we'll see $5.75 or better again? :(

I'm gonna buy in tomorrow lots and lots... price should be dropping because of the lack of confidence in the bailout.

It is for buying and holding if your time horizon is sufficiently long and you invest in broad market-based funds as opposed to single company stocks.

Yeah, it's going to drop big today. Might get down in the $2 range.

 Ummm...in case you haven't seen, mutual funds are in the crapper too. 3-5 years is probably a good timeline. You're going to want to put money in super safe bets right now like CD's, liquidy funds, and assets funds. They will only make 2%-5%, but it's better than losing 30%. It could take well over a decade to gain back what has been lost.

Yes, it's that bad.

I was in a former GM plant yesterday.

A 335,000 sq.ft. former plant in Windsor, Ontario.

the building was sold and is being leased out for various uses. The sole tenant at the moment is occupying just a small portion of the building, maybe 10,000 square feet. Walking through there and seeing all that empty space was an eerie feeling! All I could think of was having an epic floor hockey tournament in there.
