I stopped reading the replies after the first page because people are making too many assumptions

There are no official operation hours because I don't work in IT helpdesk like you guys might. I work at a consulting company and I go project by project to different client sites. It obviously depends on the project, however I've worked on many consulting projects in the past at consulting firms, and 9AM seems to be the right time to stroll into work.
you provided a lot of helpful context in your original post.

Maybe you'll talk with your clients about when you should come in from now on.

No, as long as you get your shit done and don't miss any meetings, it's generally flexible within a reasonable range of course. I always come in early if there's an early meeting scheduled.

My normal hours is 9-5

I try to show up early and leave a bit late... Makes me look good. I make up for that by taking a longer lunch which can't be accurately measured or noticed due to the sporadic nature of lunch breaks.

And each company has different working hours, as a consultant you should know this and ask before each engagement what are the expectations, including dress and working hours. Everybody knows this.

If you have some fucking information to share, then share it. This isn't a fucking trivia game.

And just because this is a tech forum doesn't mean we all work in IT. You're an idiot.

Well apparently 9 AM is not within a reasonable range now, is it?

our office hours are 9-5 but a few come in about 9:30 and some as late as 10:30. Most everyone leaves at 5 and takes an hour or so for lunch. otoh, there are some longer days (until 5:45), working lunches, and bi-annual saturday morning work.

Instead of making assumptions, how about you ask your boss when he wants you to come in? It's not a very hard concept. If it is a hard concept, maybe manual labor for minimum wage suits you better.

OP moved to the SF bay area (~3 weeks ago)
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2115021

OP thinking about going to career fair (~a week ago)
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2116250

OP says he works at IT consulting company (today)
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=30698040#post30698040

Wat?

congrats you win the prize, idiot

I work in operations consulting (not IT if you care so much). I transferred office to SF bay and kept my job. I am thinking of going to the career fair in the future to see any new opportunities. Not sure where the disconnect is.

Hours here are 7 to 3:30 or 7:30 to 4. Half an hour is very late. I'm the boss and I'm always here first at 6:30.

The read my post again. Consultants are not usually flexible in terms of start time. I mean, yeah, you can show up 30 minutes late and leave 30 minutes later, but you cannot show up at 9 AM when open of business is 8 AM. In client based consulting, it's unacceptable.

Oh, and guess what, I am a consultant also, so do not act like what I say does not apply. As a consultant, you are paid for your time. If your time includes being on work on time, then that is part of your job. As a consultant, you clients are internal as well as external, so showing up to work late while coworkers show up earlier than you is a bad thing.
