Right now, I think my build is pretty similar to this pic taken about 16 years ago.

Good job, I hope I can achieve that by Jan 5, 2005 :)

Although I got more work to do. I've managed to lose 25lbs so far, but I am still not at the level you were in your pic #1.

I need to work my abs more. I do about 45 min - 1 hr of stretching in the evening after the kids are in bed and after that I'm pretty beat. I'm doing cardio 6 - 7 days a week and I've been thinking about cutting back to every other day.

I haven't ran much since the fall. I'm mostly doing biking and the Gazelle. A school neaby is installing a new synthetic track that I'm looking forward to trying.

I agree though that running is rough on the body.

Gotta love those bulging quadriceps. :)

Look like you're kicking some butt in that pic. That other guy looks like he dying and you haven't broken a sweat. :)
Heh, in reality, it became pretty much opposite. I don't remember what happened in that practice, but the year after I graduated HS, that other guy was running 15:30 5Ks, and the best I ever ran was 17:09. :)

But I'm glad it *looks* that way. :)

Back in HS I started running to lose weight. I did it for a few mo's and it really made a difference. People complimenting me all the time. Then I started having LBack problems and gave it up. Put most of the weight back on over time. A few years ago I started biking but it really didn't help for weight, even when I did it religously and used a heart rate monitor to ensure I was in a good target zone.

I'm pretty sure I want an elliptical machine, I used one for a few weeks when I was at an apt.complex w/ gym and I liked it and it gave a good workout. Next to that was a machine I got to use on a cruise a few years ago on our honeymoon. It was a recumbant bike but it also had arm poles that had resistance... it was all computer controlled and using that thing for 10-15mins really got the heartrate up. It was made by Reebok and I'd seriously consider spending too much on one because I know I'd use it, I liked it a lot. But In my internet searching I could never find it.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and can link me to where I can buy one, I'd be eternally grateful too.

Anyway, one more congrats! I really should print this thread and post it for inspiration and get my ass back into excercising again.

I live in a cold climate where it's difficult to work out outside during the winter so I bought a Gazelle Power Plus.

Inspite of the cheesy infomercials, it really is a solid piece of equipment. I really recommend it.

Focus a little more on your shoulders with the weight training.

If you decide to work on your shoulders any a friend of mine showed me an excellent excercise for shoulders. Previously I had bee just doing the forward raises and the side raises, like all the big guys do, slightly bent arms, but my friend who does a lot of boxing showed me what they do at the gym, which is start out with a weight in each hand (I only can do 15lbs, but I'm not a big guy, start light and work your way up) raise them both up in front of you untill they are parallel to the ground then move your arms to completely out to your side, then straght down so they are at your side, then do the same motion in reverse, bring the weights up to completely out from your side and rotate untill directly in front of you, I've noticed much more definition since starting them. BTW very nice work, proof that it can be done :D

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a shot.

One of the reasons I don't lift more is that I hurt my neck when I was in my early 20s and as a result I've developed some arthritis. I've been going to a chiropractor since November and that's helped a lot.

Thanks for the advice. I actually haven't been doing any weight training - just push-ups and situps.

I just joined the fitness center at work and plan on starting to lift three times/week.

Hit those traps hard, and don't forget to do legs and you should be the buffest 44 year old on the block. Great improvement btw. Best of luck.

Gazelle Power Plus
I've only seen the cheaper Gazelle in person (which happens to be closer to my price range). I actually wasn't impressed with it at all. The build seemed shoddy and the resistance was lacking.
How is the Plus version? Would it replace jogging?

Rip,

That's real good work there bud (well I guess you are twice my age but oh well) :)

Do you have a TV infront of the Gazelle Power Plus?

I am a member of a gym where each cardio machine has a TV infront of it with headphones so I really enjoy doing cardio.

I dropped from ~23% BF to 10% in 3 months, but then I gained some of it back because my membership expired and as a college student, I didn't have money to renew it.

I began to hit the gym again and oh god, I just love eating as much as I want and not worry about weight... I do cardio every other day and I made it a habit to not stop until I burn 1000 calories in one session.

I am sure you burn a lot in the Gazelle Power Plus, but you really should try uphill jogging... I usually jog with 5.2 mph on a 15 degree angle and I can burn 1000 calories in 40 minutes... Its extremely hard though... I began with 10 minutes when I first started... built my way up...

Also, I hope you are not working your abs too much... I am pretty sure your abs are extremely defined right now, its just the skin + some fat covering it. Once you get around 8-8.5% BF range, you'll see that 6 pack ;)

And for all of you, don't do 1000 situps & crunches everday, its just a waste of time. Unless you have a BF % that's lower than 10, you will see no six packs.

The Plus version has air pistons with adjustable positioning so you can control the resistance.

The build quality is solid, and the customer service is good.

I was skeptical myself, but it's a nice machine. I don't think you can get a better home cardio machine for the price.

That's it. I am going back to the gym and get back in shape. I am in decent shape (5'11", 180lbs) but need lower bf percentage and more definition, especially around the waist. Good job, Riprorin. PM me your diets/exercise routines if you would. Thanks.

1000 calories per session, wow, that's awesome. According to the computer on the bike/Gazelle, I'm burning about 250 - 400. I've been doing cardio 6 - 7 days per week but maybe I'll do fewer, more intense sessions.

Thanks for the ab routines. I'm going to give it a shot.

I do have a little flab on my stomach. Right now, my waist is about 31 3/4. Hopefully, I'll be down to about 8% BF at the end of the summer.
