i dont know, i think two other locked threads sets the tons for hostility on this subject.

after those, i dont see how repeated calls for locks and bans arent a staple to a conversation that is obviously unwelcome, unpleasant and not being conducted very civil.

its obvious at this point that this subject is trash, flamebait and we all know all tlhe answers to all pertinent questions.

like i said (and this is undeniable), if a miracle occurs, and nvidia can fix this from a software/bios update, it will be seen by MANY more if its put into a NEW THREAD. not a 80 page beast.
so if you are so concerned about the "community".. watch the situation somehwere eles on the web (without bitching/moaning), then when you find your solution, post it.

More people will see it that way anyway. and your 'community' of neglected geforce6 owners will be better served, and thats what you are all here for, right?

OK I have to temporarily suspend my vacation from this forum...

This last post is the most absurd thing to date in this thread....

after those, i dont see how repeated calls for locks and bans arent a staple to a conversation that is obviously unwelcome, unpleasant and not being conducted very civil.

1) Unwelcomed??? By whom??? I see more ppl who have defended the thread or contributed to it then the dissentors such as yourself...count them!!!! Seems like the vocal minority is YOU...It seems like those interested in censorship of the topic is YOU...Seems since you have stated all you can state this thread probably isnt for YOU!!!

2) Unpleasant?? I wonder why....Could it be nothing gets talked about cause a handful ( again count them) of ppl for whatever reason feel so offended by this topic that violates no rules and they can easily just avoid it....Instead the attacks, arrogance, and sarcasm are the overall reason this has been driven to so many post now... It would be tiny without you boys....

3) Civil??? Again I say look who has reverted to attacks in a thread they could easily never click and nver particpate in and quite bumping if it offends them so much as to see the sight of it on this forum...

its obvious at this point that this subject is trash, flamebait and we all know all tlhe answers to all pertinent questions.

As seen by you!! We all dont agree....Again count the dissenters and see if you opinion is the majority here.....All the answers are not answered...A few did get answered no help to you....

like i said (and this is undeniable), if a miracle occurs, and nvidia can fix this from a software/bios update, it will be seen by MANY more if its put into a NEW THREAD. not a 80 page beast.

Again 80 pages (exaggeration ofcourse) is a direct result of many of the dissenters...NOt only count up the numebr of dissenters but then of them how many post each has and what % they make up of the total in this thread...There is some homework for ya!!!!

so if you are so concerned about the "community".. watch the situation somehwere eles on the web (without bitching/moaning), then when you find your solution, post it.

Ohhh I am sorry...I didnt know this was called housecattech.com.... YOU DO NOT decide what is a topic worth posting...

More people will see it that way anyway. and your 'community' of neglected geforce6 owners will be better served, and thats what you are all here for, right?

Again we post were we frequent and among the ppl we know here. Dont dictate where we post.

I think the mods need to be brought into this thread...As far as I see it the only violations I see is THREAD CRAPPING by a handful of ppl!!! bring them!!!

***Now back to regualrly scheduled vacation...Ahhhhhhhhhhh****

no, you didnt get it.

after those, i dont see how repeated calls for locks and bans arent a staple to a conversation that is obviously unwelcome, unpleasant and not being conducted very civil.

its unwelcomed by the highest of all. the mods.
i was not referring to me, or you. Th mods locked the other two, and they will lock this one. Because whether or not "I" am one of the "dissenters" (as you put it), someone else will take my place.

As has been said, this thread is a waste.

When you get new material to talk about, post a new thread with that in the title. This beast of a thread serves no one but your own moaning.

The mods are aware of this post...trust me....

They haven't locked it yet, and it is more out of hand then the last one with attacks....I think size was the issue of the last one...Again quit posting and bumping this thing, and only have it bumped when pertinent info arises....

I DONT KNOW...maybe like a site to join the lawsuit...maybe an application that uses the encoding, which as mentioned above is not officially borked yet by Nvidia's announcements....maybe an app that works a bit better with lower cpu usage....maybe any news on bios fixes which have been hinted may work for the 6800NU...

This topic can be worthwhile without the attacks and would have likely only had 30-40 posts so far if it wasn't for a handful of YOU.....

You cannot dispute these facts above or the ones I listed above...Start counting and you will see my point.....

There are other topics I am sure you guys can contribute and help ppl....Here is not one of them it appears...

Why doesn't someone try the latest Nvidia drivers (Still beta but Official :p ) that are supposed to enable Purevideo. I doubt it will "fix" the 6800's but it says enable pure video on the fixes.

-Kevin

I tried those.....Didn't help the WMV HD playback..... EDIT: Actually no I have not tried OFFICIAL BETA drivers... I had tried many other from 66.93 and up....I will test them when I get done with work...

Wouldn't all the latest drivers (non 3rd party ones) contain the same fixes thereotically...IE 71.24's and 71.40's have same pure video enabled in them???

Thanks for the post.

I read you post at the top and see some older drivers do work better with no glitches in other things so maybe others should try them.

Well to do HD playback we are still waiting for microsoft to release the modded .dlls.

THe 71.24s though a new series are not newer. On my post look at when the drivers are tagged 71 series are actually older than some of the 6x.xx series. Are you sure you tried these drivers. They were just released today. Late today.

Look at my edit...I did not try officiasl betas of that number...I tried higher numbers but not that one....

The modified dlls will be through WMP 10??? All software but no hardware, right??? get that sucker down a bit would be very nice..

Contrary to soom I have downloaded a bit of HD vdieo from P2P and watched it...Some of it was WMV and others were maybe a MPeg2 variant...Need to watch all of them again to see...

Well according to the Anand article on Purevideo Microsoft provided them with modded dlls which supported the VPU on the Geforce 6 Series.

Higher numbers with drivers dont necessarily mean that they are newer, it is the compilation date that matters.

I recently realized the forum itself seems to lack a function that would be very helpful to put out all the flames: the ability to block the contents of certain users from showing up on your screen.
Forums powered by the vBulletin system have this function. You will stop getting into flames with trolls because you don't see them, and once enough people are doing this, the so called trolls might actually stop posting when they realize nobody is reading their stuff. Or if they really are trolls, they will just start a new account to post stuff, then you can just repeat the process and filter out his or her content again.
Easy and simple, I think AT forum might want to consider implementing it.
Some people might cry foul about this being antidemocratic, but what is antidemocratic about having the ability to choose NOT to read certain posts?
The only drawback is that you don't get to see what they posted when they actually provided something constructive.

I have come to offer a few pieces of information that I deem constructive to the issue.
1. I tested out the solution I suggested myself. Rivatuner crashed my Windows upon startup, so I had to uninstall it in safemode and things are back to normal. I did a further searching on Google and realized that the VPEEnable function existed before the GeForce6 series, so it probably wasn't made to fix the 6800 VPE problem specifically.
2. For those of you who believe you are forced to switch to a 6600 GT (and sacrifce your 3D performance), there is actually a product you might want to consider. Something like the Gigabyte 3D1 (Asus is coming up with a similar product soon), which is essentially 2 6600GTs on 1 board instead of going the SLI route. http://graphics.tomshardware.c...ic/20050111/index.html

I thought this crap died out a while ago when we all realized two things:
(1) Flames will never die in a thread of this topic
(2) The PVP will never work on the 6800's

Well it was going good!!!! 6 post of constructive things....

I tried the new drivers and my WMV HD was still high as we thought...no diff elsewhere since I am using the WinDVD player and my mpeg2 already plays fine with 3-10% cpu usage....

I wonder how long until someone gets out an app to take advantage fo some onchip processing to see if that is in fact borked as well....

Actually fbrdphreak....There is still conflicting response as to whether the 6800NU (agp) flavor may or may not have the features broken. Some hint of just a bios flash. So there are still questions to be possibly answered.

Thread crapping came to a halt today and the thread only garnered 6 responses in about 8-9 hours. That will help to keep it smaller and less likely to be in the front page where it cause such hostility for some unknown reason...It is like a blackhole that pulls everybody in to make a comment whether it is constructive or on topic...

im sure hes sorry for disturbing your precious purevideo thread. "my precioussssss", sorry for the LOTR reference.

seems to me, most people would be best served by opening up a Word document and typing out their frustrations for their nonworking purevideo. seriously, the fanaticism seems to almost gone to that level, seems its come to that for some.

let it all out, blood pressure will drop and lifespan will be extended.

just some thoughts, now back on topic for the miracle cure. im done pooping now.

If you had known that the PVP did not work, would you still have purchased the card?

If the majority of reviewers had tested the PVP and found that it did not work, would you still have purchased the card?

What if they had told you that not only did it not work now, but that it was actually broken and it was never going to work? As opposed to saying drivers would fix it later.

What I want to know is whether any reviewers tested the PVP, and if not, why not?

If they were not allowed to test the PVP by NDA, that would be very bad for NV in my eyes.
If NV said, "Don't bother with the PVP yet, the drivers don't support it.", that would not really be the truth as far as I know.

If NV told them it was broken, I can't imagine that reviewers would have kept that a secret voluntarily.

I am going to go back and look over some 6800 reviews and see what I can find out.

Do you guys think if I download the latest drivers and maybe use a 3rd party program the WMV acceleration on my 6800NU will work even though the guys who made it say it won't?!?!?

What drivers should I use????

What third party software????

If you'll tell me the magic secret, I'll report my findings back here!

BTW Carage- I suggested the dual 6600GT cards (Gigabyte and Asus) as well as 6600GT SLI in this thread and the other aleady, more than once. So you're just repeating advice I've already given?

The 6600GT is a decent alternative to a 6800GT if you buy two and SLI, or get on of the two 6600GT cards.

The only thing you trade off is 16X12 4X8X, and as much as some of you seem to care about PVP functionality, I'd think that would be a trade you'd make.

I dont want to help. I think this is so ludicrous its entertainment. You guys are like watching a one legged man at an asskicking contest.. its pathetic.
As I said, the best help I could give (or anyone could give) would be psychological.

What do you want me or anyone else to do? Nothing is happening with these cards.

Yet in spite of all this hyperbole, you're still here, thread-crapping and ridiculing something that you claim is a waste of time. What sort of person does that make you, HC? And let's not forget that YOU'RE the one who tried to cloak all of your flame-spamming in the sweet music of "caring" and "wanting to help." And this even though I don't recall anyone here asking you for anything.

What do I want you to do? Find a mentally healthy place to be would be my first option.

Quit trolling Rollo. You were just whining about the constant complaining going on in this thread. And now that it's slowing down you post this in the hopes of stirring it up again? Real mature.

Creig:
If you are "considering this card", and this issue is important to you, why are you "considering this card"?

nVidia put it right on their website that the nV40/45s lack this functionality, so it's pretty likely you're never going to get this functionality?

For you, this issue is pretty black and white: If you care about the WMV, etc- don't buy this card. Ta-da! Not an issue for Creig anymore, see you in some other thread.

It's one thing to be Hard Warrior coming to this thread to say "I was lead to believe the card I bought had features it doesn't. This upsets me because these features were a big part of my decision to buy this card"

Even though nVidia has given final word on the subject, at least you can understand why someone like him might be upset. (even though I disagree that posting it here a bunch of times and flaming Anand is the right recourse)

It's a whole other thing to be Creig, coming here and posting,"Although nVidia has told me a feature I value doesn't work, I want to consider buying the card anyway, so I guess I'll complain about it not working too, because if it was, I could consider buying this card!" Uh huh.

Why use me as an example, Rollo? Lots of people here were more intent on this feature than I. For me PVP was a big, fat cherry on top of an already rich, delicious, MOIST chocolate cake. What galls me is that NV has behaved like a complete ass about it. As if they can do what they please and not have to worry about reprecussions. Oh wait, were you being sarcastic again? :)

Nvidia's "final word" and your contributions should be considered "suspect" when it concerns this issue. There is no "final word" untill Nvidia delivers on what it has promised, and that includes its newly redefined feature set for Pure Video.

You don't know, quit pretending you do. You don't speak for Nvidia, and even their own statements are contradictory.
