I feel like alot of people mention Baldurs Gate & Planescape torment,
along with Fallout,Vampire the Masquerade.

There is a outcry for more old school turn-based RPGs.
Its weird there arnt any developers that want to capitalise on that fact.

How hard can it be to just copy the mechanics of say Baldurs gate, and make a came like it, just call it something differnt, in a differnt universe than BG is in, ect and just give it some slightly better graphics = profit?

Too many First person shooters, with worldwar 2 like themes out there....
hard to compete with 3,000,000 other games.

The "smart" developer would start working on a turn based RPG and capitalise on vacum there is in this genre vs the demand for it.

I think it boils down to lazy programmers. There are a few toolkits out there that are well suited to building FPSes. iDtech, Source, Havok, I'm sure a few others.

Building something different would require actual work. Modifying those engines or writing a new one.

It's economics. FPSes sell, and they're cheaper to make since you don't have to start from scratch.

some that haven't been mentioned yet:

star wars rebellion
star trek academies
nolf
dungeon keepr
ceasar
homeworld

THIS ^ Homeworld 3! Homeworld 3! Homeworld 3!

I would do more than pay 100$ for it, i would spend 1000$ on a new computer.

I want a truly good sequel of the following:
- Master of Magic
- Master of Orion 2
- Star Control 2
- Dragon Age: Origin
- Dungeon Keeper 2
- Theme Hospital
- Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
- Thief III
- Freelancer

(and quite a few more I cannot recall yet)...

I'd probably be willing to do it for a legitimate pristine sequel to Unreal Tournament 99/2004 that recreates the UT99 game play and feel for on-foot games while preserving the UT 2004 feel for Onslaught and Assault. However, that will never ever happen.

The real problem is that the gaming community has changed significantly since BG game out. And although there is still a very vocal community wanting more of it, we are in the significant minority. the vast majority of game sales are to consumers who want better graphics and more mindless ADD focused games that they can get into and out of in 10 minutes "Just to get their fix". or they want more MMOs where mindless grinding with very little variation exists.

Yes, there is a vacuum. And yes there are consumers that would absolutely devour another BG game. But, take a look at DA:O and DA2. EA considers DA2 to be a success and exactly in line with what they wanted it to be. More accessible to 'The masses' and the console gamers. More's the pity.

The sequel I want most is KOTOR 3, but I wouldn't pay that much for it. With all the Steam sales, I get most games cheap. I have paid full price for only a few games recently, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 (unfortunately), and Diablo 3 are the only ones I can think of. I dont think there is any game I want bad enough to pay more that the going list full price.

WOW... Your 3 are the EXACT same 3 as mine.. With one small caveat.

I caught ME3 on that typical 2 month sale at BB..... Usually games go from 49.99 to 39.99. Thats when I jumped on it.. Sadly..... Its still wrapped.... Finishing 2 is PAINFUL. Especially with Skyrim and D3....

Edit.... No game would I pay $100 for.....I even gave up collector editions awhile ago.

Mindless shooters are also an easier sell on consoles.

I'd sink bucketloads of money into an MMO that captured the mystique and society of UO from the T2A era.

I'd sub in a minute. I'd buy a CE and a lifetime sub.

God damn that game was fun.

I would pay more than $100 for:

1)Sequel to Planescape: Torment
2)Every single Mortal Kombat game that came out on consoles but never came out for PC. It would have to be a bundle though. All games in one. I'd be happy to pay $40 separately for the newest MK. Same goes for Tekken and Street Fighter Games, King of Fighters, X-Men vs. SF, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc, etc.
3)Dungeon Keeper sequel
4)Imperium Gallactica sequel
5)Ultima series sequel. (or even good remakes of the originals, which would be strongly preferred actually)
