I actually started thinking about how Allesandra was supposed to be spelled before it hit me.

Name one even remotely important character that was killed in the books, but not in the series or vice versa?
Other than changing Robb's wife so much and eliminating some minor characters and side stories to streamline things, the series is remarkably true to the books. All the big events are the same.
hm.. I read some of the GoT wiki but have never come acrossed anything mentioning purple wedding. so i'll be pleasantly surprised when it shows up

While, it is important, it really only serves to set up what happens after and that should be what the series focuses on.I still disagree with Gag's placement of the Purple Wedding.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but to me, this trailer was WAY better than the first two. I was excited for the new season before, but this one actually gave me goosebumps.
Having just finished watching season 3, I'm considering buying the books. Is there someone who first watched the show, and then went to buy the books? Did you find it worth it?
I'm not normally into fantasy literature, LOTR world is probably the only one I really like, but I'm digging GOT. There are a few storylines I find boring/annoying (e.g. the red chick and Daenerys), some parts are too 'fantasy' for my taste, and although I liked at first how good guys die too, after the Red Wedding, I feel GRR Martin is a bit overdoing it, practically only the good guys have been dying so far.
But I still find it interesting, I'm a bit worried that knowing the big events, at least in the first 2.5 books, I'll find it boring. I'm also worried I might ruin the show by reading ahead.
The books are pretty cheap - $30 at Amazon for all 5...

I would save your money.

I'd agree with this. I've read the first and about 2/3 of the 2nd book after the seasons had already aired, and there's really nothing important that the show missed. They do such a great job with the show, it's not one of those where you think "man, the source material is SO much better, I should go read the books..."

Watching people's youtube reactions to the show's Red Wedding is entertaining. But when I got through that chapter in the books, I had to take a break from reading and console myself with drink.
Jaime was sparring with Bron. Maybe they're substituting in Bron for Ilyn Payne during Jaime's swordsmanship rehab/retraining to have some witty back and forth banter.

Ilyn Payne won't be in the show anymore AFAIK. The actor, Wilco Johnson, has pancreatic cancer and elected to not receive chemo. Unless they recast they will need to rewrite a bit of the story. I don't think it will change too much, but Jaime's interaction with Ilyn was pretty amusing.
