I have a GameCube in my bedroom and a DreamCast in my living room. I have some serious fun with both systems and have plenty of games on both systems especially the DreamCast. The only regret I see in buying the GameCube is the fact that their online strategy went tits up! The only game you can play online is Phantasy Star and that is just stupid. If I could go back in time and do it all over again, I would have bought the DreamCast and the PS2 and set it up to be wirelessly connected to my network. Don't get me wrong, the GameCube is a great product, but the lack of quality titles hurts its sales and their online strategy is nonexistent. The only way I will buy a console in the future will be if they have some serious developer support and if almost every game they make for the system will have multiplayer capabilities that can be utilized online. It also should have wireless network support built in so I don't have to spend a few extra bucks buying a bridge and crap. For me, I'll stick it out with the PC.

I wouldn't buy an X-Box due to the fact that most of their title do end up coming out on the PC after a few months.

I could go on, but my point has been made. A remotely intelligent person can actually understand time. I own all 3 consoles plus a gaming PC and my XBox gets the most playtime usually due to Xbox Live. I'm also happily awaiting the rest of the exclusives: Halo 2, Fable, B.C., PGR 2, Ninja Gaiden, Crimson Skies, Amped 2, Perfect Dark Zero, Rallisport Challenge 2, XSN Network, etc.

But you enjoy your "short" wait while I enjoy the actual games.

Nintendo consoles are garbage, and have been since the SNES days. The only reason that console was popular is because of the RPG's for it. NES was great, I can't take anything away from NES, but the Genesis was a way better system than the SNES, especially with the Sega TV cartridge :) Mario sucks, Metroid wasn't half the side scroller that Sonic was and Zelda has been nothing but crap since the first one came out.

About the only thing that would get me interested in a Nintendo console again would be Super Mario Dope Wars.

if you have no taste to speak of,the above statement is true.
sega has always been 2nd banana to Nintendo...a wanna be Nintendo.
what amazes me is how Sega has been propped up to this elite 3 party dev. now, At least Nintendo's 1st party can carry a system, cant say the same about Sega.

Eternal Darkness is the best survival horror game on the market.

If you saw my library of PS2/GC/PSX games you would sht a brick. They've got their own bookcase.

I can't wait to get: Xenosaga Episode 2, FFX-2, FF Crystal Chronicles, F-Zero GX, Harvest Moon, Chaos Legion, Silent Hill 3, Soul Caliber 2 w/ Link and a few others.

As far as Halo goes. When it comes to the PC in the upcoming month, you will see it flourish far more than it ever did on the Xbox. It will have competition similar to counter-strike. It will be big. It was simply a neat game on the Xbox, on the PC it will be its own world.

*cough* uninformed bastard *cough* No doubt it will be big on the PC, and the mods that will become available for it will make it an outstanding game, but it seems apparent you've never played Halo seriously on the XBox. I'm not talking about against your friends or system linked with other XBox's at LAN parties, either. Please come back when you know what you're talking about. Oh, and how can you say the GC has some of the most original games out there? If you've read any of this thread, every first party title is a rehash. A bad ass game? Fvck yea. Original? No.

What is this "Sega TV Cartridge" you speak of?

At that time, I owned an NES/GB/Genesis/SNES ... I found some good friends in those systems. Despite that, never heard of a "TV Cartridge". Can you elaborate?

Nintendo titles are original in comparison to PC games ported over to Xbox. GC/PS2 exclusives are games that you will NEVER get a chance to play anywhere else and always have their own sense of style. Seriously, ask anyone about this. They buy GC because Nintendo has their own series of games that are always great and always live only on their own system.

And Yes, Halo will be 10x bigger on PC. You don't have to use your stupid coughs. When it hits PC and you see the REAL competition, you will then understand. No need to debate this now, just mark my words for then. The game was DESTINED for the PC and the Xbox was simply a waypoint. All big competition fps games have to live on the PC.

Yet again, you have NO idea what you're talking about with real competition. Halo thrives online on the XBox. Destined for the PC? Wasn't it originally a Mac game?

You just sound like a typical GC fanboy so I guess I'll leave it at that.

X Factor: Microsoft's Xbox is showing now on The Discovery Times Channel

It shows how they develop, group test and market an Xbox game. Boy, I never thought they were so professionally organized when creating a game!

Everyone keeps saying about Nintendo dominance in the handheld market. Nintendo was kicking ass with NES and SNES. The Sony came out with PS1 and they have dominated ever since. If history repeats and Sony rapes Nintendo with their new handheld it will be the beggining of the end. I wouldn't surprise me if MS launches a handlheld at that time too.

well you know nintendo went to sony to get help with their next gen console which would have been called the "playstation". nintendo got cold feet when they realized they were helping their potential enemy and ditched it for the n64.

oops ;)

what are must play games anyways? i find most games for any system mostly cr@p. as with most things in life. gems are rare, but thats good or else you'd have no time for real life lol:)

verybody totes Halo as the do all, say all FPS. Halo was boring and the controls for it were crap. The last good and original FPS was Half-Life and it's mods. I also have always found it funny that for 128 bit systems, neither the X-Box or GC are 128 bit. The X-box is 32 bit and the GC is either 32 or 64 (I can't remember), but the DC and the PS2 are 128 bit systems. Quite unfortunately Microsoft has money to throw around enough to buy out companies to get these pseudo-exclusives. Hell they own Rare, Bungi, half of Konami. But the system still sucks. They are too unoriginal. I'd have no problem with the PS2 if they had some better multiplayer support. But I've seen nothign that could even close to redeem the X-Box monstosity.

One of my other problems with the other two systems. I've been working in a retail gaming store since before any of ther 3 systems came out. And I've yet to see a Gamecube returned as defective. Yet I still regularly hear people complaining that their X-Box and PS2 last 6 months or to a year then died. The PS2's problem is it's to complicated. The X-box's problem is it sucks.:p

I don't care what anyone says. I love my gamecube and I guess I'll just be getting games cheaper if it gets discontinued. There are still enough games in development and being planned to last for another year and half, so don't hold your breath for too long, because I think it will be around until the new wave of consoles hit in 3 or 4 years.

Bottom line is this:

GameCube is a great console but is starting to fail due to the fact that it can't shake off the kiddy image that it had established back in the day. Is it really a kiddy console? Not really, but it does have its fair share of games that appear kiddy. Super Mario Sunshine didn't help its cause but the game is pretty fun if you give it a chance and don't be so quick to judge. Lastly, Nintendo's online strategy is non-existent so that really hurts thier sales because playing online is the thing to do these days.

PS2 is a great console with a bunch of quality titles and a huge selection of games. The PS2 has a online gaming strategy (free of charge) that defanitely helps its cause and the fact that they launched the PS2 before any other console didn't hurt either. Only problem I see with the PS2 is the fact that only a few titles are available that can be played online.

X-Box is another great pick but there are a few things that made me (and I'm sure others) steer clear of purchasing one. 1. The fact that you have to pay for the X-Box live service absolutely sucks. 2. Most of the games that come out on the X-Box come out on the PC so why bother?

The X-Box does come out with some quality titles and Microsoft does appear to be sticking with their product till the end so those are some huge pluses. Also, the X-Box live service appears to be a big hit and they have some quality titles available to play online with.

Is one console better than the other? No. Does anybody really give a crap? No.

Why do we always have flames in regards to the consoles? People just feel that if they have dropped $xxx.xx on a console, they want to defend that purchase so that they don't appear stupid. In reality, they shouldn't give a damn what anybody else thinks as long as they are happy and having fun with their purchase.

Good night guys!

What you do is if you're an overpaid yuppie, you buy all 3 consoles.

'Nuff said! No more saying my system's d!ck is biger than yours.

If you can only afford one system.....well, that's simple.......buy a PC!! Nothing is as versatile/upgradeable a platform/tool as the PC. No obsolete 4 year life-span consoles.

And as has been mentioned earlier in the thread, all blockbuster games from Xbox or PS2 show up eventually on the PC.......except Nintendo.

F*CK Nintendo! Serves them right for being so arrogant.

The market forces has decided Nintendo's fate.........And the market doesn't like arrogance!

I'm sorry, what? If a person can afford to purchase only one console, how is he going to purchase a decent rig to play on? "obsolete 4 year life-span consoles" - you do have to upgrade your rig if you want to play any game at a decent speed. A rig 4 years ago probably doesn't even meet the minimum specs of any of today's games

Say what? My brother still has his Windows '98 rig from 1998. The only upgrade he's done is a cheap 256mb stick of RAM and still subsequently plays the latest games on his "very old" video game card.

Most nerds on this board fret over an extra FPS. When in reality, any good game worth its salt will play COMPETENTLY on an old rig. How many times have we heard of the latest/greatest state-of-the-art games have buggy trouble running on the newest rigs?

Great games will always run on old rigs. All these over-hyped rush jobs won't work decently on new rigs OR old rigs. A buggy game is a buggy game. Period. Blame the developer, not the rig's age.

http://www.gamestop.com/default.asp?sect=2

I don't think there's a single game on that page that will run "competently" on an old rig. My P2-400 (the equivalent of a 98/99 year rig with TNT2 Ultra had trouble with WC3 on lowest details and everything. (WC3 is almost a year old) There's a difference between extra FPS and playable FPS. "Any game worth its salt" - wait let me guess, you're going to name some old games like Half Life or Diablo. Well if you're stuck in the age playing old games like that, you have no need for a competent gaming platform to begin with.

Oh, and console gamers don't have to go through the trouble of incompatibilities or tweaking to get the "extra FPS" out of whatever game they have. Consoles are the most consistent gaming platform, period. There are far less bugs in console games b/c there's only one platform to test it on. Like you stated, if the game is going to go cross platform from XBox/PS2 to PC or vice versa, why not get the one that's most competent and consistent? Why would I want to fvck with it in front of a small monitor in a computer chair when I can plop down on the couch in front of a huge TV playing the same game?
