Like.......? Lets see here....there's already been a Mario game, Mario Party, Mario Kart, (coming soon) Zelda, Metroid, Mario Golf......the only real titles they have left is Wario and a Yoshi game. You can't keep recycling the same crap over and over.

I don't think their strategy of making a pure gaming machine is ever going to work.
I bet this new "big impact" thing will probably be along the lines of an integrated entertainment center/console. Maybe built-in networking, DVD drive, music storage/playback, even PVR functions?... oh, and play Gamecube games, too! :p It's probably too early to move to a new gaming platform altogether so I'd think the new strategy is to add features to the existing platform.

And it probably wouldn't be targeted towards the usual gamer, but more for those wanting to build their home systems around this one device.

Since theyve already invested money into R&D into thier next home console, they wont stop making consoles just yet. But I can forsee them pulling out of the home console market if they arent #1 or close to it. If they are in third or way behind #1 in 2005/2006 it would be a smart move to exit the home console market, and focus on strictly the handheld and software markets.

lol, you mean like that Panasonic GC that also plays DVDs, but with more useless crap you can't use? The XBox does pretty much everything you say already and it's only $179. Plus according to the article it's a big impact thing. A all in one GC is hardly high impact

Right now they're just clearing out their backlog of systems they've already produced, but not sold. They aren't stopping production of the Cube forever. I still think its a killer system and a lot of companies just don't want to bend over like they used to for Nintendo.

Honestly, I have to say thank god. I am so sick of Nintendo. They claim to be "pure" gamers that produce consoles that only play games with no online support because that's what videogames are supposed to be, when in reality they are too afraid to go directly against Sony and Microsoft. They seem to sell themselves out before they even get going.

Well, there's F-Zero GX and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III, both of which look excellent. There are some third-party games which look good like Viewtiful Joe and Final Fantasy.
And there will still be some good multi-platform games like Soul Calibur 2, Prince of Persia, THUG, SSX3, and the sports franchises.

Overall, you're right, though.

They learned their lesson.. MK2 was uncensored and the BEST arcade port to home console. I actually broke my hand playing that game (I'm such an angry person :|)

F-Zero is alright. If it's anything like the 64 incarnation it'll get old fast. RS isn't even really a Nintendo title. Don't get me wrong - I used to love Nintendo. I got a GC the first day out. I traded it for a XBox a year and a half ago. There are times where I wish I hadn't, especially considering all the bad ass first party games, but that's not enough to make me want to keep my GC.

I was pretty shocked to hear you selling the GC and buying an Xbox since you was so anti Xbox in its early life hehe. I guess it was the RagingBitch inside you that made you say those things. ;)

I'm quite the uninformed tool ;) No but it's quite easy being a fanboy of a particular system until you get a chance to play it's competition. Skoorb was also quite the XBox hater too, and quite the PS2 fanboy. Guess we both saw the light :) The only reason I changed my mind was b/c my cousin got a XBox, and that Christmas we spent 75% of the time on the XBox, 20% on the GC, and 5% on our other cousin's PS2.

In retrospect the stuff I said about the XBox was all true - it's just an overpriced mini-PC, but I'm glad I have one :)

lol! :D

Well after trying all three, I want..... all three!! ;) Well, realistically only Xbox and a PS2. PS2 has the best soccer game known to man kind (winning eleven) and Xbox has boobies.... but I can afford neither at the moment (its an expensive addiction for a university student ;)).

Many people predicted Nintendo to fall flat before they even launched the gamecube. You have to wonder how overpaid execs get to work for them. I mean, they come up with a fisher price looking console with crappy specs compared to their competition. Plus they have to come out with their special discs. Oh, and let's not forget they didn't even have an online plan whatsoever.

And they wonder why alot of game makers are cutting their ties with them. They either need to follow sega's lead or they better re-invent their system to appeal to all ages and not just 10 year olds.

Not really. New versions of Windows render older games buggy if unplayable, despite what the Microsoft PR machine says or OS offers as run-arounds.

Yet, still, absolutely, the PC is the "safest" gaming machine besides the Gameboy when new machines come around.

Sadly, I do see signs of the GameCube failing. One huge sign is the fact that ESPN Football won't be available on the GameCube this year. Do game developers know something we don't?

I prefer gaming on the PC better though.

I think the division doing sports games for Sega said a year or two ago that they would not do anymore (or any) for the Gamecube. Of course, N has a deal with Sega for certain titles (Super Monkey Ball for ex) exclusive to the GC.

Yea I want all 3 too. I guess I could afford all 3 if I really wanted but I don't think I'd ever play it enough to justify the purchases. The best soccer game known to mankind was World Cup Soccer for the NES (iirc it was called WCS) - it was the one where you could do special powerup bicycle kicks that were unstoppable. Slide tackling people on ice sent them flying across the field, it was the most bad ass soccer game I've ever played :)

I have no beef with Nintendo, they always made good kiddie games. But for only Capcom for signing that stupid RE exclusive. Fawkers! Rot in hell and you die!

Ok, I mean modern games, not dinosaur games! ;)

I was never in to soccer in the nes days.

Even if it implodes, I can view this console as an old pinball machine that one can dust off from time to time for kicks. Even better use will be had when the anklebiters are eventually born.

I read somewhere in a tech mag that software developers put the least amount of software develeopment resources on the Gamecube version of cross-platform games. Professional game reviews also are proving this to be true as Xbox has the best version (due to its machine), then PS2 (which is difficult platform to program for), and lastly Nintendo which is markedly inferior version of the cross-platform game (despite its machine being better than the PS2 machine).

Once develeopers can't reach their sales targets with Nintendo, developmement will stop all-together. The death of the GC will come fast if good titles besides Nintendo don't come down the pipeline within the next year. Developers are a conservative bunch: when they see GC bleed, they will run for the hills. And no matter what Nintendo assurances they provide development companies, it won't be enough. Sport game defections als EA, etc are just the beginning for Nintendo.

The death of the GC is coming soon my friends. For better or worse.
