You can label all complaints about tablets as being "first world problems". 😛

The TP8.4 is pretty nice. I'm still not sold on TouchWiz though so I might go searching for a custom ROM.

VLC is a bit laggy so will also need to look for a better video player.

MX Player, been my go to media player for years.

I prefer dice (no adds) but will switch between dice, mx and bsplayer. They all ahve their +/1 in interface and features depending on when they are updated. Dice advantage (for me) is the no-ads for free version and decent interface. MX allows me to dynamic switch between decoders and one day i might pick up the pro version.

Adding to your Plex library is as simple as dumping a file into a folder. That's it. Plex takes care of everything else, it's very slick.

I already use Plex for my Roku so I'm aware. But it also takes some time to do its thing, especially if you're adding more than 1 media file. And they charge for Plex on ios/android too.

EDIT> I've just found Air PlayIt for my old ipad to stream media from the PC so it's all good now. Much better than having to set stuff up each time / sync. For android I use Airstream.io.

Yeah - I'm not an Apple hater, just not a fan of how they do things.

Tablets for me are Media Devices. I do not want to constantly have to sync or convert files. iTunes is annoying.

Man does the battery suck on this beast. Samsung should be ashamed about cripleing this otherwise terrific tablet with a dreadful battery. For this tablet to have even decent battery life it would need to be 50% bigger than it is. Had I known the battery life was this bad I would not have purchased. If you're looking at getting this tablet and battery life is important to you I'd advise you to look elsewhere.

I returned mine to the store today. Packaged it back up and cleaned it, used new tape cut out to make it look new. It fully worked fine, but battery was bad.

May look for a used Nexus 10 again, loved my previous one.

Battery life was absolutely terrible Funny you mention this.

I just checked the battery capacity and it says 4800 mAh. The Ipad mini is 4400 mAh and undoubtedly lasts longer. Couldn't Samsung have stolen that display conservation technology instead of swipe to unlock? Come on Samsung...

I use it mostly at home so the mediocre battery life doesn't bother me that much. Do I wish that it was better? Sure. But the light weight and great screen matter more to me than battery life.

What batterry life are you getting that made you want to return it?

You mentioned moderate to heavy use... were you charging it more than once a night? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the TP8.4, just curious on how bad the battery is and what to expect.

I definitely couldn't get a full day use with heavy use. I was getting 4-5 hours screen on time.

Not bad. Not great.

Partly the reason. Other is I got a 10 inch tablet with great specs for less money. Still have a 2560x1600 screen but I'll admit the tab pro screen was better.

Thanks for the feedback.
I have been an iPad 2 user since it came out. I'm tired of the low-res screen and I've always felt the iPad 2 was too big. I'll be okay with the battery drawbacks.
I went ahead and ordered the GTP 8.4 from Amazon, should be here tomorrow.
