Here's the first reply from our friend in Romania:

Yes. I still have it.

Someone got me stopping the listing because he said that he would buy it now. He let me down at the last moment.

Please tell me if you want to buy it at the price of $900 with free shipping.

I'm going to ask him some more details on it, and tell him I'm very interested but need to think about it.

Ohhhh that is so good!

this might be the real guy your talking to. Maybe just the account was hijacked but the real persons eMail address was on the account. I dunno, just a thought.

No offense to any Romanian's here, but I would view all auctions from there as scams. Plain and simple... same goes for Russia or any one of those Eastern European countries.

I thought about that before I posted...but Romania + Western Union + hurry hurry pretty much means troll. Also he just lied to Jemcam...as far as I know I'm buying this laptop and heading to Western Union right now to send his money!

p.s. Also, the original auction had the location in the US, and in case you missed it eBay pulled the auction and sent out warning emails that the account had been hijacked.

So no one steal that line!!! It's mine!

why do you assume this guy is running a scam ?

Obviously you aren't skilled in the art of the scam on ebay/internet yet.

Hello,

My daughter sent me a link to your auction a few days ago for the " HP Pavilion " laptop. She said it would be a good deal...but it looks like I cannot get it anymore(new to eBay, maybe I still can?) so if this is possible, please let me know. For your trouble, I am willing to go up to $1000 or $1100, since it seems this really is a good laptop.

Thank you,
Jeffrey Newman

Tell me, would you buy a laptop from a guy who only accepts Western Union, and lives in Romania?

Why not?

Ahhh. I think you just answered your own question.

We're sorry, but we currently do not offer our westernunion.com money transfer service to ROMANIA. However, you can still send your money transfer at your local Western Union Agent location.

We are continually updating the destination countries for westernunion.com money transfers. Please try again at a later date.

not to mention the email from ebay saying the seller's account had been hijacked...

Rats, it looks like it costs $15 to wire money to someone. We have his PO box address, though, so we could always mail him a little "gift" on behalf of AnandTech... 🙂

Can you give me the details on it again? I am very interested. Has anyone else been asking about it?
