cool i like wolfenstien. but i have some questions about it. when i host a match it puts me in a spectator mode and i can't get into an online match without me being spectator either!
if anyone can answer these questions that would be great.

I haven't gone thru the whole thread, but you can get <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.gamershell.com/news/41339.html">Far Cry Free Full Game (Ad Supported)
</a>

Ad supported, but apparently still very playable.

My favorite game, BTW.

EDIT: Sorry, ran a search and found that:

And some recent ad-sponsored but free ones here:

Ghost Recon, Far Cry, Prince of Persia: SoT

C'mon guys, I was only 4 months late 😉

I found a nice one a few days ago called Hurrican. It's a side scroller that is fairly hard, but better polished than many shareware/commercial games of this type. The graphics and artwork are excellent and the gameplay has a surprising degree of depth to it.

GLIDER 4.0

Played it on a Macintosh Classic II in junior high... F'in fantastic!

I played this a lot too in the early 90s. I still have it set up in Basilisk, where it works fine.

It's interesting that the original author maintains a site on these games. I wonder if he has released Windows ports of any of his other games. There was another one called Pararena that I used to play all the time, which doesn't work right in Basilisk (no sound). 🙁

OMG, the OP needs a serious update as this old thread is full of awesomeness, but just way too big to go through.

However, I didn't really post to say that, but to make the thread longer! 😛😀

Check it out. What it is is an online Game service that's offering approx 50 Free Games, but also offers many more games which would need payment. At any rate, the Free Games require you to to download an App and view an Ad before playing, which might turn off some, but the list of Free Games is filled with some very nice titles.

Some of the Hitman series, CMcRae 2k5, Daikatana(ok, not so nice, but if you ever wanted to know why it's hated, now's your chance to find out), and a bunch of others. So far I've only tried Cannon Fodder, but plan on trying many more.

It doesn't look like the main post in this thread has been updated in quite some time to reflect all the games that people have responded with. If someone would like me to take over and start updating it, I can definitely do that, just send me an PM and give me edit rights, and I'll start taking care of it. It's an awesome thread and I'd hate to see it die due to it being outdated.

I tried downloading s.w.i.n.e because it looked quite intriguing, but it looked like it was going to take three hours even on my dsl.

Just found this thread and would like to vote for Nezuix (quite Quake 3 Arena'ish), the Runman stuff is a bit of fun, and something I spent half a lifetime on is Visual Pinball. There's also Future Pinball. If you like the text adventures there the Scott Adams stuff too.

Don't start me on emulators. Dunno which of them have freely available OS roms but don't overlook the TRS-80, BBC and Amiga emu's. There's a HUGE wealth of free games for them.

I got some slightly older games -- Far Cry and Hitman 2 -- from Direct2Drive for $10 each.

I realize that's not truly 'free' but then other people have mentioned games that require you to watch ads so those aren't truly free either (personally I'd rather pay the ten bucks and skip the ads).

Did anyone ever start a new updated thread, or are we still posting in this one?

If not, any volunteers that are willing to sift through all the posts and links here and start one?

Free HL2😀M, lost coast, and partial Portal for NVIDIA video card owners:
http://www.steampowered.com/nvidia/
There is also one out there somewhere for ATI card owners...

For anyone who purchased orange box and felt jipped that they did not get HL2😀M, this is for you!

Project Torque ... best free racing game I have ever played and they're great at fixing bugs in a timely manner and adding content.

Edit: just saw above post, that's 2 votes!
