I need to down load some of these later when I have time. Some of those games look awesome.

Exteel

Free 3rd person shooter. It's "Gundam". Big machines running around shooting eachother. All online and fast paced. Get to customize your Mechs armor, weapons, and abilities. Not all items are free though. It's about 50/50 free items to PlayNC coins which you have to buy. Looks really good for a free game too.

Done. Was actually wondering where this went myself.

Excellent, thanks. This was a great resource last summer and I was looking for new additions. I got through a lot of slow days playing the multiplayer games listed against my co-worker.

IDK if anyone else ever posted this, but Dwarf Fortress is free and tons of fun.

Yeah considering the player base the game still has. Maybe we can e-mail em and ask.

After all Quake Live is coming. Which ID software is beefing up Quake III and it plays in your browser and will be playable full screen. There will be in game ads, but it's free and if successful who knows where ID and others will go with this.

There is also Open Arena which IMO is better than Quake III because it has better weapon models and the levels look better. I just can't stand Q3 spinning piece of rail road track of a chain gun. At least in Open Arena it looks like a chain gun.

Here is a whole slew of free games: Quite a few listed and sites to more places that list free games

I've found a few favorites over the past few months.

FPS:
Combat Arms: http://combatarms.nexon.net/
Sauerbraten: http://sauerbraten.org/

Racing:
Trackmania Nations: http://www.trackmanianations.com/

Both Combat Arms and Trackmania are well-polished, professional games that don't really feel free. Sauerbraten doesn't feel quite as polished to me, but it has a similar feel to older Quake games and is a lot of fun; it's cross-platform, too!

Yes, it plays kind of like CS, but the majority of players don't seem to be very hardcore... which makes it more fun for a casual gamer like me :)

Not sure if its been posted, but for a FPS multiplayer game similar to Counterstrike there's a Wolfenstein Enemy Territory mod called true combat elite that's pretty good. Has both CS style plant the bomb/defuse mission layouts as well as that respawning type game mode I forget the name of; deathmatch I think. The shooting method is a bit different where you have to look down the barrel of the gun to line up your shot, rather than having a cursor on the screen, but pretty cool once you're used to it. The install is a bit convoluted though, I'll lay it out:

1 - Install Wolf ET
2.- Update Wolf ET with latest patch if not v2.60.
3 - Install TCE
4 - Unzip latest patch,.49b, into TCE install directory.
