I live in Plano (N. Dallas) and I called last Wed (June 16) I did not ask for DSL Billing, I just went with the flow. I got a very friendly female CSR, told her I wanted the 384 up (already have 1.5 down) she took about 15 seconds to test the line, said I qualify and that it would take a week (June 23)

When she asked if there was anything else she could help me with I asked about the 29.95 rate (paying 34.95 now) and she said the price automatically changed with the 384 up package. I have been checking all week for the upspeed with no luck. But I just got an email (i'm at work) that my upgrade is complete. Exactly one week just as she said! On the phone less than 10 minutes. Very happy with Verizon. GG!

So I would question the Dallas area thing they told you.

EDIT: My quote didn't take. This was in response to Athakur999

BEWARE of these upload and download increases, there is a trade off...

My friend excepted the $5.00 DSL upgrade from 1.5\256 to 3.0\384, and within 2 weeks his port 25 was completely closed. SO that he could no longer send or receive mail on port 25. He could only send mail to Bellsouth's e-mail server. He called and spoke with the reps and each rep that he spoke to basically told him that they had decided to complete close port 25 to stop spam mail. So if you run your own e-mail servers or if you use anything other than a webmail client (hotmail, yahoo mail, etc) beware.

so beware... that is all I am going to say.

I got my upload speed increased...and was also able to get my bill lowered to 29.99. Anyone know if there will be a price increase when they up the speed to 3000/384 later this summer? Thanks

For those who have a particular, specific, "port 25" problem.

Many ISP vendors are making alternate ports available, as a way to circumvent this trend.

I've run into 2 alternate port designations.

2525 and 9998

YMMV

If every vendor picks their own such port, rather than something standard, it will make things more difficult / problematic for spammers to find / abuse?

Verizon did that to me last year. I switched to MCI with 1.5mb/768kbps with 5 static IP's plus a Cisco router for $39/month. Not the cheapest around but I can run any service w/o limitation. :D

I called verizon twice till now, but they said I am not qualified as I am far beyond 15k feet. They said max I can get is 768k / 128k. However, I am getting 1.5m/128k. I thought as raising the matter, but kept quiet after knowing what happened with Slaimus. Codef, whatz with you. Did your download speed came down?

Also regarding the DSL bill for 29.95$. I have been verizon customer for more than 1.5 years. I checked with the site and came to know that the new customers would get for 29.95$, but right now I am getting 34.95$/month. Well did any of you guys got the bill reduced from 34.95 to 29.95 being customer of verizon for more than 1 year? if so please let me know, i would call right away.

Thanks in advance

In my case the CSR said mine went from 34.95 to 29.95 automatically when I changed to 1.5/384. But some people have said the have got the price difference just for calling in the month of June. Maybe you should try again and tell the CSR that you heard it was for any customer calling in the month of June.

As far as the $29.99 a mo deal, do you have to have Verizon as your long distance carrier to keep this rate ? I received the first month free and hope I don't get billed $35 after that as I still use MCI as my LD carrier.
I finally did get my service going, but not until a Verizon tech came to my house and installed a new wall jack. It seems the very old GTE setup I had was not going to work with the new Verizon and its different cabling setup. After several calls to and from Verizon, and my explanation of what the GTE setup looked like, they realized what was going on.

I don't have a LD carrier, I use my cell phone for LD. And I got the rate change. But several ppl have said in this thread that they only got the price break for having verizon local and LD service. It sounds like it's just the luck of the draw and what CSR you get more than anything.

I've had it for $30 since early last year, back before they did the upgrade to 1.5 down.

Then, they had the "Veriations" package, where you had local and LD with them.

I don't know the terms of the current $30 deal, and wether or not you need to have the full meal deal.

I have not yet checked my DL speed to see if it went down. I kind of don't want to, cuz I don't want to have to call again and deal with them.

If you go to verizon dsl website, u can see that they lower the price to $29.99 a month and first month being free.

Don't know how it works in your area, but here in southeastern PA, I only have Verizon local, NO ld ( I use phone cards, or my cell for that ), and it's only $29.95 or whatever plus my local.
Since I am only 4000 feet away ( I thought it was about 3 blocks ), I'm getting tested speeds of
1492 / 361
From dslreports, I'm happy :D seems good so far, but I'm waiting for the I hope, free upgrade to 3meg

Oh and ping time is 11 with no dropped packets

Today I just got my DSL reduced from $34.95 to $29.95. I currently do NOT have Verizon long distance.

CSR only told me she was changing my account from a retail one to a wholesale account (have had DSL for several years now). Also, I won't have any outages during the change.

Well, my speeds are still at 1.5/128. So doesn't look like they've downgraded me.

I called Thursday of last week and they dropped my rate from 34.95 to the 29.95 without having Verizon long distance. I just got the bump in upload speed last night, less then the 3-5 business days they were quoting.

Okay I have a good news bad news story on this one.

okay so I call verizon on june 8th and request the upgrade and I qualify YAY!
the csr is so nice she even changes the rate to the 29.99 and gives me a 50 dollar credit because it was supposed to have been that way for 10 months appearantly. SWEEET.
so I go on vacation june 10th. get back the 23rd. and try to connect to see if I have the upgrade and LO AND BEHOLD the friggin internet wont connect. I call verizon and report the problem, I get the run around about power cycling the modem and checking my internet properties. no luck.
while i am fiddling with it I find that I can connect yahoo messenger but cannot connect to a website. WIERD????? inform tech support of this and they have no idea so they submit a problem escalation to the next level.
they tell me I will have it fixed within 48 hours. get a call yesterday morning saying it is fixed. I try to connect and still nothing. call tech support back and tell them it isnt working. go thru the power cycle property check again.....
so I tell tech support I can connect to messenger but not to websites. this CSR tells me that it isnt anything on their end it has to be my computer. I tell him I have 3 different computers all doing the same thing. he tells me it is my end and cant help me and will be closing the case. Well I tell him that it worked before the upgrade, and he insists he cant help and is closing the case, I get PI$$ed by this time and tell him I want to talk to a supervisor, get put on hold for 20 minutes. then the supervisor gets on,
I give him the story and he says OH YEAH there have been problems with people upgrading something about the programmer forgetting to change some setting or something and he tells the tech support guy to resubmit the escalation with a note saying I had the speed upgrade.
I get put back on hold again for 20 minutes while this MORON types this up, then gets back on the phone to say....... thank you for calling verizon have a nice day! Talk about way pissed by this time what a Jerkweed. well 2 hours go by then tech support calls and tells me it is fixed and guess what IT IS. what a hassle. but I am loving the new speed. I was on 768/128 so it was a major boost.

anybody know if they're going to be upgrading the download for sure? when last i spoke with them, they told me they weren't sure if it was going to be upgraded for the same price. it was undecided whether or not they were gonna have 3.0/384 for $29.99/month. just wondering if anyone heard anything different.

Just got off the phone with them......they said the 29.95 rate was for new customers....so of course I told them that other people were getting that rate w/o being a new customer and after a bit of coercing they finally gave me the new rate. I also asked about download speed increases and they said that it isn't available at the moment but if I saw any ads touting that download speed for new customers that I could call back and order it if my line supports it. They said they expect the download to increase to keep up with what cable is offering in my area. (central coast, ca)

What I was told, as a new customer (although I once had Verizon DSL several years ago) was that there is no contract, i.e. it's month-to-month. So if they say a deal is for new customers only, just tell them you wanna cancel and re-up.
