Free Comcast Speed Upgrade

Can someone explain why I seem to be able to get Comcast's upgraded uploading but not downloading? Hell, my download now is slower than it was during pre-upgrade...

my newer scores:
downloads:1185
upload: 341

My older scores were something like:
download:2360
upload:240

5784 / 652 😀

I actually feel really stupid for this one - I was supposed to be upgraded on the 26th, but after numerous restarts of the modem the speed did not change. Finally I gave a call to Comcast who have confirmed that I have been upgraded (actually checked my modems config). Trying to come up as to why my speed was remaining the same I remembered that I was doing a ton of optimizations on my firewall which all depended on the maximum up and down speed. After changing both of them on the firewall I immediately got the new results 🙂

Next step: the 10000/1000 barrier 😛

i upgraded to 6meg/768up. I had dsl and was getting 768up/down for 80 a month. I can get much faster down with comcast and the same upload for only 55 a month.

I'm happy with my $30. 🙂

I got the email about the upgrade tonight, and I'm in Fresno, CA.

Tested at DSL Reports before unplugging:

3105 down
238 up

Gonna go unplug now...

Quick tip: If you are renting the modem and have an old, old white surfboard, it might be a good time to swap it out for a new one. Mine pretty much blew up after the speed increase (kept dropping signal at random times for random lengths) and so did 3 other people's that I know.

north cali here

got the email regarding the update
unplugged modem for 2 min

did a speed test
no change in speed at all
exactly the same as before

will try again later

😕 Can someone explain Comcast's pricing structure to me? I am in Savannah Ga where the speed upgrade has already take place. I would like to get the 6mps down/786 kbps up package for the extra $10 per month. I am told that only way to get this is to get the home networking option which comes with a different modem and a wireless laptop card. I would not have a problem doing this except that Comcast wants a $150 installation fee. Since I already have a home network and wouldn't need thier profession installation anyway, I inquired as to weather I could just pick up the equipment or have it dropped off and forgo the installtion. I was told no and that that was the only way to get the speed increase. Does it work this way in all markets?

spead test through speakeasy.net showed the following

2005-03-11 20:55:36 EST: 3851 / 351
Your download speed : 3943569 bps, or 3851 kbps.
A 481.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 360365 bps, or 351 kbps.

thats up from what it was before but not by much
download increased prob 500kbps at the most
upload a minimal 30kbps

but hey a free speed bump is always good

Comcast has a promo now (at least in Chicago) where if you upgrade to the 6000/768 you get $15 off a month for 6 months. It knocked my bill down by $5 plus gave me awesome speeds 🙂

So I take it this is something they do it on their end without the subscriber having to do anything about it right? Hope this happens in GA soon, we could always use more upload bandwidth with me and my roomies trying to split it up between MMORPG and p2p 🙁

If you don't watch outyou'll hit Comcast's capping pretty darn quick.
