Are you suggesting we have a collaboration and put BOTH in?! That would work, right? right? :(
put both of them in a quality car that will run like a kitten all the way to 200,000+ miles, and get at least 50 mpg, and not rust, and not feel like you are driving around in a small box on wheels, and i'd be sold with either the Ford or GM logo on it.

Ah..an electric car.. =p

(Of course that would be more like 250 miles to the charge ;) )

sure, i'll take a Tesla Roadster. :)

I wonder how they move in the snow though.... : /

Then that'll be two please. =)

Yeah I run into that issue as well. When I look at the estimated cost for the Aptera I think "Wow! I could afford that!" but then I know something like that won't move in the snow at all.

The Tesla..at least I could look good trapped in my driveway.

So what about all of the other auto manufacturers who are still building huge SUVs? I mean, Toyota only has 6 different SUVs available right now.

With 4 of them having new models lauched in the last 1.5 years (Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and Higlander). Oh yeah...GM and Ford were the only ones...sighh.

Only 200k? Toyota was building cars that would do 300k+ in '88 (first car, Camry :))
My car guy's Tacoma is still running at about 450k+, with routine maintenance and transmission. No huge bills besides the transmission; original motor.
200k is a bit easy now.

They have no idea how to do that and still pay $30+/hour that the unions demand. We just bought a Scion (Toyota) xA last year and a Chevy HHR 3 months ago. The Scion is small but roomy inside, is very tight, and the interior is both pleasing and durable. This car was rated at 33/38mpg, but I'm getting 35/41 easy.

The HHR's interior feels like the plastic they used in cars from 1982, and the fabric they use on the interior feels like the stuff left over from stretch pants (also from the 80's). The design of the car is nice, and it does get up to 34mpg hwy, but we've had it back 3 times already to repair:
- a rain leak on the driver side console
- the center console detached from the floor
- an odd "coolant" smell
- vibrating brakes

US cars have a world reputation is being big low quality gas guzzlers. Also, US auto workers have a rep as being an over paid, non-caring, over unionized workforce. I don't know what the hell they were thinking when all 3 of the Big 3 were still investing in SUV's and pickups back in 2002 when gas spiked to $2.00+. Everyone else started designing fuel efficient cars, and now they're laughing at the US automakers. Yet another reason I'm becoming more and more embarrassed to be an American.

We used to be the best at everything, then the Generation X'ers came along and rested on the accomplishments of the previous generation, and boom---here we are.

So who is making one of those now so I can go out and buy one?

Otherwise, you must be riding a bike as nobody makes the above currently.

They are solving that as quick as possible....they're shipping production to Mexico at a break neck speed. Will they make it in time? I don't know.

LMAO, the 2009 Jetta TDI doesn't satisfy ANY of those requirements.

We recently test drove the Jetta through the streets of San Francisco and were pleasantly surprised. The Jetta has always been agile and zippy, but the new, more powerful TDi gives it more oomph, allowing us to power through traffic and accelerate from stoplights with authority and a little bravado?we totally tooled on a Toyota Prius. We were also shocked as to how quiet the engine operates: You have to consciously listen for the knocking, or you wouldn?t even notice it. If reports are correct, the Jetta should get upwards of 50 mpg, combined highway and city. Although pricing hasn?t been announced, expect it to be within a few thousand of the current models (an estimated $18,000 to $23,000). We can?t wait for chance to spend some more time with the new TDi Jetta?and test its real-world feul economy. ?Chuck Tannert

wtf, he spelled fuel wrong?

and that link is an announced 50mpg, not a proven. and really, what car cant toast a prius? well, other than a smart car.

id rather see more of what that one guy did to his mustang for that 10 mil contest. he is reportedly (i know, not proven yet) getting 110mpg with a 400HP mustang 5.0 just on improvements, not conversion of type of fuel. wish i could find a link for that, heard about it on the radio this morning.

That's the official rating, not a real world rating, if you research any of VW's previous diesel models, you'll see how WRONG you are. I was just picking a single baseline, if you want me to go to their euro line I can pluck out a lot more cards with high MPG diesels.

That TDI will not rust out during any realistic life of the car.

So you want an SUV? Sorry, I don't need that much interior space, if you've been in a Jetta wagon it has way more interior space than needed.

I don't know of these elctrical issues, do you know something about the new diesel TDI I don't? Or are you just spreading FUD?
