AFAIK they don't do fly overs with jumbo jets. As Fern pointed out above - a 747 with a fighter jet trailing it? That would scare me if I was there.

I'm sorry folks were skeered but they need to get a grip.

I've been 'buzzed' multiple times by bombers and fighters in the middle of the Pisgah National Forrest without the need to clean out my drawers. As noted in a previous post, if Americans are living with that level of fear the "Terra-ists have won".

Was this a screw-up? Of course it was. It was stupid. But folks needs to come to the realization that we have become a knee-jerk 'nation of the offended' and pretty much a bunch of pansies.

Perhaps you're the exception, not the rule. Someone with some common sense should have second-guessed this "opportunity". Obviously no one did, because if they had, it would have died on the table right then and there.

By the way, I think everyone can stop trying to be Obama's bodyguard. I have only skimmed parts of the thread, but I haven't seen anyone even hint that this is on his shoulders.

First, I never said it was a smart move - clearly, it wasn't. Second, I'm not one to defend Obama - I wish him well, but I didn't vote for him, and I'm not thrilled by him so far, for reasons that I've mentioned in other threads. I agree the fly-by was dumb, but people should just let it go.

when was the last time terrorists flew planes into the sides of buildings in Pisgah National Forest?

- and this type of post is why I called it a story for pussy "rightwingers" to vent their flaccid rage....

What rage are you speaking of, Mr. Flacid Pussy? You're just hurt because no one took your bait the first time around, so you're back for a second attempt.

The real screwup here was not the flyby (who really cares, after all-apparently it was a training mission combined with a photo op) but the pre-event secrecy imposed by the Feds. The feds threatened the NY cops with Homeland Security sanctions if they disclosed this event-WHY?

As Brian Williams correctly said in his blog, the feds should have greatly publicized this as a rare event and invited people to view it. Some idiot obessed with secrecy has managed to turn what would have been a good PR stunt into a PR nightmare-for no reason.

I'd have to guess if word got out to the public anybody who wanted to make a statement could have tried to shoot it down?

Give Obama a break. Its not his fault. Its the fault of the people he vetted and hired. The buck(and responsibility) stops with Biden.

i can't see how anyone can put this on Obama. his admistration? sure but not him.

but man what a clusterfuck of a mistake.

Yeah it's not Obama's fault, I'm sure he was busy giving a speech of how America is to blame about everything.

Robert Gibbs says to contact the White House for information? I'm not sure he knows his job.

The libs want it both way so badly. Every mis-fart by one of Bush's aide's and you had every comedy show and news routine showing how big of a dumbass Bush was, but when it's Obama's judgement on the line, it's quickly buried. Just imagine if Bush did this. Every single influential comedian would skewer him for not being up on Photoshop's abilities and would have a ball with the whole "what's a computer?" thing. Instead, the media shows it's bias, things are ignored and quickly moved along when one of their own commie thugs makes a blunder.

This wasn't even a blunder. This was a severe lack of judgement by an idiot with an idiot filled cabinet who is making Bush look like Albert Einstein. This is what we get for electing a teleprompter.

CHeck out the FFA memo story:

http://wcbstv.com/topstories/a...orce.one.2.996457.html

I couldn't agree more.

Seriously, RD, yours was a pretty ridiculous, obvious observation. The wheels and peddles are pretty fitting.

And 9/11 or no 9/11, if it was Bush's photo op you can bet your ass it would have been a story... one about wasting taxpayer money and executive excess. His direct involvement would be inconsequential; the mantra would be "it's his admin and his responsibility."

It's nice to see that with Bush's exit so went liberals' absolutist thinking.

Is this the same guy that authorized the two on 9.11.2001? If yes, then I could see why it wasn't really a big deal for him

Unpossible. The media would never have put a different spin on the story had it been Bush instead of Obama doing this.

There is no such thing as the liberal media. Every liberal in P&N can tell you that. ;)

What ever red ass, do you see me defending Obama or the Fly Over in this thread? In one post I came out and said it was stupid decision and that the person who made that decision shouldn't be absolved and I agree since he's in charge of of the Admin he's responsible for it's actions. Haven't you ever had to take shit for the actions of a subordinate before?

LOL red ass? Okie...

Anywho... No, I don't see you defending the fly over, but I do see you trying to minimize the outcry. I'm saying that outcry would be deafening under a Republican admin. I'm not arguing with you over the validity of it, I'm just telling you how it is.

The whole incident was the product of a stupid, ill conceived idea followed up by piss poor communication.

I'm not sure the communication was piss poor, other than NYC staff to the mayor. There are security reasons they might not have publically announced the flight plan.

Especially because the low flight path would make it an easier target.

I was surprised how much New Yorker reacted to it, for what it's worth.

You were suprised by how much New York reacted? 9/11 is something everyone is reminded of almost daily. Personally I commute on 78 in NJ and everytime I drive back from work on the pulaski skyway I notice the fact that the twin towers are no longer in the NYC skyline, I am reminded 5 days a week. A lot of people died, hundreds of times more people were directly connected to a death, your apparent callousness is pretty sad.

I was in DC on 9/11, a block from the White House, a suspected target of the 4th plane, and one of my brothers-in-law was in the Pentagon when it was hit. Luckily, he got out fine. I agree with Craig234 here - New Yorkers are over-reacting to this.

To those whom are saying "whats the big deal about AF1 flying around NYC", check out the youtube videos.

I'm one of the first to criticize the post-9/11 climate of fear. But if I looked out my window and saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMoy8JprKI0

I think I would be scared poopless too (especially the portion from ~30 secs onward).

And for you Obamapoligizer-bots claiming it's not Obama's fault because he didn't know anything about it, you are full of crap. Obama is directly 100% in charge of where and what all the AF1 planes are doing at all times. It's not like some air force guy or even his chief of staff can just go out and say "let's take her out for a spin and a nice photo op". This would have had to be planned and approved by him from the beginning.

I agree(with Red?) he should be impeached.

I have to defend Obama, he has never had good judgment, so this is no surprise.

Obama has time after time used bad judgment and it got him in office so why should he change.....
