First called B.1.1.529, was named the Omicron variant of Covid-19

I generally agree. I suspect the vaccines will still prove effective against this new variant and assuming that’s the case we should simply return to life as normal because there’s nothing more to be done. If people won’t get vaccinated then they will suffer the consequences of their decision but the rest of us shouldn’t be burdened by their irresponsibility.
I'm more inclined to agree with this as soon as my youngest is fully vaccinated.

When I and someone close got vaccinated a few months back, a local anti vaxer had two responses.

1: We had infected ourselves with COVID and were going to harm them with COVID.
2: We had committed suicide because, at some unknown date in the future, everyone who was vaccinated would die.

I think you GREATLY misunderstand "why" they are fighting it, if you think you can describe it as you did. While accurate from our perspective, it wouldn't be from theirs. You're simply dealing with crazy.

I don't misunderstand it at all and agree it's dealing with crazy. I'm just disappointed that crazy has been so effectively weaponized at the time in which we have achieved our greatest level of scientific achievement. It will take a miracle for our species to make it out of this solar system.

Those that is afraid of Covid, gotten vaccination the second they were eligible. I waited until i decided that it was worth getting it. At this point, i do not see benefit of Booster for that reason i will not be getting it until further notice and possible ever.

Curiously, you skipped my post. Why? You keep skirting the issue of virtually EVERY expert in the field in EVERY COUNTRY ON EARTH recommends a booster.

Millions of them not in any way affiliated with government.

Here is my post you skipped over:

I'll bet your family doctor (actual MD) recommends a booster.

As does every single immunologist, virologist and epidemiologist along with 99.99% of medical doctors IN EVERY COUNTRY ON EARTH.

You claiming not to because only the government wants it is just fucking stupid.

No government required. Listen to the expert consensus OUTSIDE OF government.

Only 5.7% of people in low-income countries have received at least one dose.

A global pandemic of a fast mutating virus.
It's useless to get just yourself vaccinated. If all countries are not immunized against the current variant than no country is immunized.
WOW, absolutely horrible world wide vaccination rates so far. If we don't step it up as a world community - the successful mutations will keep coming hard and fast 🙁. Slowing down the rate of infection and the transmissibility should decrease the spread of new variants and put us in an Endemic stage where modified yearly vaccines (like the flu) can maintain a heathier world population. Last I read, the WHO didn't expect full vaccinations to be predominant till sometime in 2023.

I haven't discussed it with my doctor and only reason i would if i had some underlying condition that made it problematic for me to get vaccinated if i to decide to get booster.

If only wealthy countries had highly organized groups of people who were experts in logistics and getting things to remote locations quickly to assist. And yes getting the entire world vaccinated should have been a huge priority and the plans to into place have been absolute shit and the follow through has been even worse. This needs to change now.

So you're ignoring sound medical advice based on world wide scientific consensus for your... feelings?

Your doctor more than likely would recommend a booster if it has been 6 months or more since your last dose.

Ignore all the political bullshit and TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR.

I am not seeking medical advice base on my own personal view of how serious i feel i am in danger. Had i been over 50 or had any other medical condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity etc yes i would be talking to my doctor and yes i likely would be getting a booster. Being that is not the case, i do not believe at this point i am in high danger of getting seriously sick if i to catch it assuming i even have symptoms. Everything in life is taking a risk, i can walk outside right now and get hit by meteoroid or i might fall on even surface and hit my head on the concrete. If i tried to avoid every danger I might face, i probably would go crazy.

it's almost like the risk of catching covid is much greater than the risk of getting hit by a meteroid, and the amount of effort it takes to mitigate that risk to as low as practical a value is both minimal and cost-free.

I have a feeling that this variant will be more contagious but cause less illness. Not a deadly variant, but that's just my guess. Still, people need vaccines and masks so that even newer variants will not occur that could potentially wipe out the human race.

And naturally, my trumpie family who are in denial will say SEE, I KNEW THEY WOULD TRY TO SCARE US AND CONTROL US WITH ANNOUNCING NEW VARIANTS. IT'S GOING TO BE ONE VARIANT AFTER ANOTHER.
And I want to say back to them, WELL, IF YOU WOULD JUST GET THE DAMN VACCINE THEN MAYBE WE COULD GET OVER COVID AND THE NEVER ENDING VARIANTS. AFTER ALL, IT IS PEOPLE LIKE YOU DENIERS FOR THE REASON THAT COVID AND VARIANTS ARE STILL AROUND TODAY.

But they never listen to me, but instead change the subject by saying DID YOU SEE THE FAKE JOE BIDEN? THE LAST TIME BIDEN HAD WRINKLES AND THIS TIME HE HAD NONE. HE'S A FAKE. AN IMPOSTER JOE BIDEN.

And I say back, WELL, IF THEY WERE GOING TO DO A FAKE JOE BIDEN YOU'D THINK THEY WOULD AT LEAST DO A FAKE JOE BIDEN THAT LOOKED LIKE BRAD PITT.

It really is something astounding.

People get the flu shot all the time, step on a nail get a tetanus booster, now we have shingles if you ever had chicken pox. Like nobody hasn't. Then there PHV or is it PVH whatever the cervical cancer one that both boys and girls should get to prevent ya know cancer.
Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio. fuck that shit right. Yall don't know what's in it. Microchips? sorry they need nanochips, you already have a microchip in your fucking pocket/purse.

Hey Alexa!

I have never gotten flu shot and no one in my family did either. This vaccination against Covid is turning in to broken record of having to get vaccinated every 6 months or so. For example "
"Moderna chief predicts existing vaccines will struggle with Omicron" link so if another booster comes out, are we supposed to keep getting them every time?

Ill take those nano chips thank you. A little firmware update to bot swarm and they’ll kill whatever variant. Digitized immune system. Yes. Please.

This means that you’ll be able to contract delta AND omicron at the same time. Think about that for a second or if you know someone proficient @Thinking as them to think about it for you.

Get sick with one variant, get hospitalized, get infected with the other. Game Over.

If you knew how the immune system worked, you would understand why repeated exposure was very much necessary against the onslaught of such an effective virus.

The moment COVID hits your cells, it starts to multiply. This is race to the finish line against your immune system. But that system is divided between fighters and memory cells. COVID is simply too fast for the memory cells to keep pace. And if you rely on them alone, it may not produce enough fighters before you suffer severe illness. Now... some people are lucky and the initial viral load that hit them is small. Buying you more time. Some people have stronger immune systems. Buys them more time. Again, to produce the fighting cells to stop the virus. You know what else enhances your response time? Prior exposure, either directly or through vaccination.

Each time you are exposed, in theory, both fighter and memory cells respond better and faster. But the fighters are only temporary and will not stick around. After 6 or so months you are largely relying on the memory cells to produce enough new fighters quickly enough. Most viruses are slow and the memory cells kick their !@# after just one exposure. They have no trouble keeping pace and beating back the virus. But, again, COVID is a monster that can easily overwhelm an unprepared immune system.

COVID is not just any virus. Like the flu, immunity may not be possible. All we can do is achieve a strong enough response through a continued vaccination campaign. Until the virus is no longer overwhelming healthcare providers. The longer COVID sticks around, and the more people get repeatedly exposed, the less impact it will have on us.

If you have an ounce of common sense, and actually understand the reasoning and science behind it, the answer is yes. It's obvious you lack common sense and have zero understanding of the science. I am surprised you allow your anti virus software to update on your computer with such logic, or I should say, lack of logic.

I am willing to take that risk. Yes the risk might be foolish and yes it might make me very sick or even kill me but ultimately it's my decision to make.

You got me, i don't even run anti-virus program on my computer. I haven't for years.

So you are just as stupid with you computer as you are with your health..It's sad but that's not surprising at all. Before you try the "I practice safe online habits" you can get viruses and such from legitimate trusted sights as all it takes is a single line of code in a unknown compromised site...

Yes.

You're basically arguing that something is only worth doing if its only worth doing once or only if it permanently fixes a problems the first time, which obviously isn't logic that holds up when you scrutinize it.

As for the flu vaccine which comes out every year, the data on the flu vaccine is extremely strong. Society is hurt not just by deaths but also by hospitalizations and lost wages. With what we could save by just vaccinnating everyone against flu in one year, we could end childhood hunger in the US for that year.

My computer runs fine as far as i can tell. Sure i could having millions of virus right now and not know about it.

You realize cars have software updates as well... so do military software. I suppose they shouldn't update those either. I guess known bugs in nuclear launch codes don't need to be fixed because things are running fine as far as we can tell.

So I take it, when you say you don't run an antivirus, you still have windows built in protection from windows defender, right? Which means you do run an antivirus, but are to stupid to realize it. Or do you have it disabled, and not having it update?

Of course "my computer runs fine as far as I can tell".... Means you don't have a clue of you have a key logger or a hidden virus sending all your account information to some foreign sight.... You seem to think that viruses just includes those that effect the operation of your PC..... Anyhow, enough on that subject.
