First called B.1.1.529, was named the Omicron variant of Covid-19

The new normal should be staying at home until we either have herd immunity or a cheap reliable treatment. So yes. Right now if you break your leg or have a heart attack you may not be able to find a hospital bed in certain states and may die. The new normal of hospitals being overstretched by dumbass covid patients is not sustainable and I'm tired of paying for those guys.

Saying I'm willing to take the risk of dying from covid shows arrogance, stupidity, a complete lack of understanding that societal resources are both limited and shared, and a complete inability to truly asses risk. Call me an asshole but that's the truth. I work in hospitals and see these 30-40 year olds who say the same thing, get sick and tie up resources for 60 days because we're trying to save their dumbasses because they're "young and have so much to live for".
Well your last few sentences explain everything. I am sorry that you're having to do the work that you signed up to do for which you're getting paid. Americans will not stay at home any longer, we are done with it. We will live our life the way we want to and not the way medical community wants us to live. Covid is not going away, maybe it's time for medical community to start expending health care access so you're not in emergency crisis 24/7. If it was up to doctor and scientist, we would continue having business closed, with "stay at home orders". I am sure some doctors would even advocate for Europe style lock down which never happened in US.

Of course what this really means is that people who won’t lift a finger to help themselves by getting vaccinated also expect hospitals to lift heaven and earth to save them from the consequences of their own stupidity so no, it’s not ‘I made a choice and I’ll live with the consequences’, it’s ‘I made a choice and now I demand you protect me from the consequences.’ Sheer childish entitlement.

Staying at home is not the answer, closing businesses is not the answer, vaccination mandates are. Don’t want to get vaccinated? Fine, but that means you don’t get to participate in most of public life either until you grow up and become more responsible.

It's even beyond that, given finite resources it's also "... protect me from the consequences even if it as the expense of someone else who did his or her part." Disgusting.

He also demonstrates how simple minded he is, his answer to the various Healthcare bottlenecks is "just expand more."

Oh shit! Why didn't we think of that?

Arguing from a point of dramatic oversimplification and ntk realizing it. Yikes.

I don’t even know why we are talking about COVID. Gym Jordan declared REAL America was done with COVID and the only reason we still talk about it is because of Biden and Fauci.

Right now 1200 people dying a day and we appear to be entering a second surge due to Thanksgiving. Keep in mind a normal flu season kills 10,000-20,000 people.

This is nothing like the flu and I fear this winter will be quite harsh. People are going back to being way to lax. Flying, throwing parties, it's not looking good.

So strange that weblooker2021 thinks that 1200 people dying every day, with the possibility of it getting even worse, is funny. Glad I have them on ignore, that reaction emoji implies they are a psychopath.

Another worrisome component is COVID-19's variant mutation speed. We've had 5 major variants in about a year and a half, that's a cadence that even if you have a 'durable' vaccine regime, it might just simply get outpaced by mutation rates.
It won't have meaningful mutations forever. It is just maturing at this point. Measles mutates quicker than COVID, but it matured a long time ago so none of those mutations really make it better.

Reports from South Africa seem to suggest that omicron is not any worse than delta except that it seems to be even more transmissible. Overblown reaction maybe. But this type of reaction is what was needed when Covid first appeared. It didn't help for us to have an idiot-in-chief who dismissed it as 'just like the flu', and didn't want to alarm anyone because of popularity points.
While I agree Trump did almost nothing right WRT COVID, he couldn't have done anything to prevent global spread. Once it broke out of China, I don't think South Korea, Singapore, Iran, or Italy even pushed it to zero transmission, all were hit before we were.

...majority of us is willing to take the risk that we will get sick and even die.
This is a funny notion that you fucktard clowns like to claim...that you're somehow part of "the majority", in pandemic contention or in politics here in the US. They should be separate issues, but of course the pandemic has been entirely politicized here because reasons according to idiot conservatives. In any case...you are part of the imbecile minority.

And of course, your self-centered ego only cares about you and your own, as you've plainly stated if it wasn't obvious enough. "Willing to take the risk" is ignoring endangering others around you, as you continue going in public, sometimes crowded places, usually without masks because that's your self-centered M.O.

You are not in the majority, clown. You are not a victim, clown. You're just an uneducated, irrational, egotistical idiot.
I am sorry that you're having to do the work that you signed up to do for which you're getting paid.
Yeah, nice compassion you have for the medical professionals that are having to deal with juveniles such as yourself causing preventable situations and overloading hospitals.

You are NOT the representative for all Americans, thank fucking jeebus.

You are an over-simplistic idiot, and this statement of yours is EXACTLY why morons like you should get triaged out when you suddenly need to go to the hospital with COVID and there are no beds available. Go home and deal with it, you made your own beds when you decided to deny science in lieu of your feels.

Most people I meet around here by me definitely want life to go back to normal, but with vaccinated sane people around them who protect the health care system and the people around them. Not with unvaccinated people that are making going back to normal less safe and with a bigger risk to our healthcare system.

Absolutely! No one is forcing you to get a vaccine. Are you under some delusion that going to bars and restaurants is a right?

Think of all the money anti-vaxxers will save by dining and drinking at home. Really, we're doing them a favor.
Are you under impression that most city's will have vaccine mandate? That will never happen and that is a fact.

The number of cities that choose to have vaccination mandates is irrelevant to your 'my body, my choice' statement. It's someone's choice to remain unvaccinated, and it's society's right to bar them from public venues because of their irrational irresponsibility.

You need to be vaccinated or tested neg in order to fly to Hawaii, and possibly stay in quarantine after arriving. I would not be against doing it nationwide, just taking continental, interstate flights.

It can be infuriating that the idiots who refuse to be vaccinated or mask up because of their feels, think they're also entitled to go and do what they please, restrictions be damned. A good example is how many morons have gotten kicked off of planes and added to ban lists because they refused to simply wear a mask. Some have gotten violent over it.

They think it's their right not to be vaccinated, that society should not be able to exclude them from participation in public venues because of it, AND that society should also cure them when they become infected by the virus that vaccinations and public mandates were trying to control.

It's the same issue as always, they don't understand what freedom really is. It's not to be able to do whatever you want, that's indulgence. Real freedom is freedom of action and acceptance of consequences, but they always skip that part.

Yep exactly.. Trumpanzees are getting sick and dying and then you wonder why you don't win elections.

Mexican resorts should start offering covid shots, and also towns just across the border. By that I mean the covid virus itself, nose swabs if they're afraid of needles. Tout it as the best way to build antibodies, and offer all-inclusive meals and drinks. Fat white old folks love all-they-can eat buffets. Add in abortion services for the wives (because conservatives loves them some abortions too) and it'd be a money maker.

Was showing up for me. Saved it as media instead of pic now.
I can see it now. Yes unvaccinated have a higher risk of death compare to vaccinated. That never been disputed, with that being said, it always should be personal choice. Also Covid is here to stay forever, at this point that should not even be a dispute.
