I don;t think that using the about:config dialog changes the user.js (I haven't checked).
I beleive that the user.js gets maintained when you upgrade, but settings you change in the about:config get reset.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Opera has this feature built-in...no patch needed:

Nevertheless, cool mod for a cool browser....

OPERA / FIREFOX >>> IE !

on a side note...help me out ppl...whenever i click on a link, i want firefox to open up a new tabbed window...not a whole new firefox window...i looked in the options menu and changed some of the settings but im still having problems. can someone tell me where i can change the settings so that the links open up as tabs and not as a seperate window? i know this is off topic but any help would be appreciated.
Click on the link using the middle button on your mouse, this will open a new tab for you.

You can't really go wrong with Opera or Firefox, both are great browsers. Choose whatever fits your needs best.

or just type "about:config" into a blank browser window, and change them yourself.

holy crap very nice find.. another reason firefox > IE

I've had my IE doing this for years now. :D

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000064
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000064

Well, this post convinced me to finally try another browser out (other than IE). Not sure what the final verdict will be but I am initially pleased and am in the tweaking mode. Just applied the patch and things are loading much faster. Thanks OP! w00t!

You can do it in IE too.
?? Where's the option to do so or is it an obscure tweak?

despite that fact that you can do the same tweak for IE...it lacks the tabbed browsing and isn't it not so secure w/ so many flaws that are found in it...but hey...to each his own...whatever floats your boat...just my 2 cents...

Me too... But with all of the IE exploits, its just plain stupid to use IE unless you have to. :confused:

I use the free IE add-on, "Maxthon" (used to be MyIE2 and was very similar to CoolBrowser but has since grown and added many new features) Link, adds tab browsing, inline ad and popup filtering, plus much much more. Still has the risks that IE has (since it uses the IE engine), but, I keep up to date thus so far not a problem. The plus is that sites that are IE friendly only, such as some banking sites, still work fine.

If you like Firefox or Opera or whatever, there's no reason why you can't install this one too. No spyware/adware. I may retry Firefox again, seems like it's pretty solid nowadays.

It is really nice, the pages look nicer without the crappier ads
Yeah, it really puts a kink in those party poker ads to your left.
