get the Adblock extension, install it, restart firefox.. now whenever you go to any website with ads (flash, etc), you will see a 'Adblock' light grey-tab above the window. Click on the and you can block it =)

It is really nice, the pages look nicer without the crappier ads

I don't know who was trying to state that this is debatable whether it is faster or not....this is incredible......I have Firefox + Cable and it is incredible...less than 2 second load time for a whole page....the way internet browsing was meant to be!! :)

on a side note...help me out ppl...whenever i click on a link, i want firefox to open up a new tabbed window...not a whole new firefox window...i looked in the options menu and changed some of the settings but im still having problems. can someone tell me where i can change the settings so that the links open up as tabs and not as a seperate window? i know this is off topic but any help would be appreciated.

In Firefox 1.0:
Tools > Options > Advanced > Tabbed Browsing > Open links from other applications in: a new tab in the most recent window.

My big test for speed is loading up my ebay summary page. Before it would take FOREVER, while Opera and IE blew through it. Firefox is now on par with those browsers for speed. :D

FWIW, I had already performed many Firefox tweaks. The browser was faster than it was stock, but still nowhere close to Opera. This tweak puts them neck and neck!

The patch seems to fail if FF is not installed under the default C:\Program Files folder. Even pointing the prog to my install path (D:\Apps\FireFox, home of Firefox.exe) it said "could not find Firefox in specified folder".

Go to about:config and set browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs = true. Then you'll see more options under "Tabbed Browsing" in the Tools..Options Advanced settings.

Worked before, added the patch and it still works?

Anyway, there are way too many threads on firefox. .6 to 1.0 was a big improvement but every little point update or addon script is overkill.

someone help me out here. I tried the patch and then loaded the same website in firefox and IE. I actually clicked go in firefox then clicked go in IE and IE loaded faster. Shouldn't firefox be quicker?
