Finally got a Glock 17.

Used for 450.
Has orange optic front site. Some sort of weird textured grip which I may have to scrape off.
No case but I already had a Pelican sitting around empty anyways.
Only one magazine but that should be fine for the range. Once I put a couple hundred rounds through it I will feel comfortable carrying it.
Actually, as fat as it is, I may not carry unless I know for a fact I will need heavy backup (which shouldnt happen in the suburbs). No way I can fit it inside the waistband so its gonna be a standard outside Galco with a heavy jacket. In the summer thats not gonna work.

But at the very least I have now entered the fun yet expensive world of Glocks. Up next: AMAZON!
I need the extended magazine plate and a basic nylon holster and a 9mm boresnake.
 
You're going to want extra mags even at the range. They're only ~$15 for new Glock factory mags if you look in gun forums (I see them at GlockTalk, AR15, Calguns, etc. for about this price).

You don't need to clean it. I'm not saying that I don't clean mine, but you don't need to clean it. 😀


I've put about 6000 reload rounds through my Glock 17. Never an issue. Nothing at all.
 
Congrats on the ugliest gun ever.

Also, 9mm is not "heavy backup", even with 17 or 18.


Also, the smart players carry something like a PF-9.

where do you live that you feel the need to carry?

edit: i'm not anti gun at all. i'm just curious. i live in the atlanta suburbs and have never felt the need to carry a pistol. i suppose if i lived downtown i would feel different.

You're a fool then. Rugers are chunky and unreliable junk. Glocks may not be my favorite but they're dead reliable, accurate and easy to point and shoot.
 
World of Glocks expensive? Not compared to the world of M1911 or the world of H und K or the world of SIG. Glocks are cheaper, the magazines are cheaper, 9mm ammo is cheap compared to .45 ACP or .40 S&W. Just buy an aftermarket barrel, and start reloading hard cast lead.

Pick up range brass (you could pick up 2 or 3 boxes at a time on my range) -Free
Winchester 231 Powder 1 pound (enough for 35 boxes of ammo) -$20
500 125gr. Round nose lead bullets (enough for 10 boxes) -$45
CCI #500 small pistol primers 1000 count (enough for 20 boxes) -$35


That equates to 13-14 cents a round
$6.82 for a full box of 50

I remember walking up the stairs from the MARTA station in South West Atlanta. I was met by a shout of "you must be lost, beloved patriot!" I made it another 30m down the street when someone yelled, "You gonna get killed, cracker!"

When I made it to the auto parts store, the workers were absolutely astounded that I had walked there. 😀

I of course had a Sig 228 and 2 spare magazines in a jackass shoulder rig.

The Ruger SR9 is thinner than the Glock 17. Reliability, I don't know about...but the people who have them say they are very reliable.

I know my Security 6 is the most accurate handgun I own. I've had no problems with my Security 6 or Blackhawk. I'll take the Blackhawk any day over a Smith and Wesson 629.
 
Lmao there's nothing wrong with my kimber. Id go with it over a glock any day. 🙂

As for the 17 being a carry gun, I had a glock 30 and found it too fat. The 30 is a 45 though. Is the 9mm double stack any thinner? Any gun with a double stack mag is gonna suck for carry IMO. Im currently using a walther pps 9mm for my carry gun.

My buddies and I used to go to the local sand pits and fire off 1,500 - 2,000 rounds of 9mm in a single day. Then add several hundred rounds of 45acp, and 40S&W to that 9mm.

Whether it was 9mm, 45 acp, or 40S&W, we never had any kind of issue with ruger pistols - P85, P89, P90 and the P91.

You mean a Redhawk, right? Blackhawks are SA cowboy revolvers. Great for hunting, but not for CCW.

Never had an issue with my Ruger SR9.

they are great reliable straight shooting guns

I sold my 88 g17 in excellent working condition to pruchase a new 4th gen glock 19.


glocks are a great cheap to maintain gun. when I got my 17, it was 20 years old and still was 100% original. I spent 15 bucks replacing the springs in it because, well, I wanted to take it apart anyways and clean it.

I sold my 23 year old glock for 375 bucks. thats good resale value. it would have been more, but the 4th gens just came out and all older glocks took a price hit.

I've shot rugers, sigs, HK's, beretta's, S&W's

but I chose another glock, I woulda preferred a 229, but they cost twice as much, and so its not worth it to me. Beretta makes a great gun, but didnt one that fit my needs.

HK, blargh. maybe a P7. havent shot their newest one, but I wanted a tested well aged platform, and dont want to shoot 45, and the 9mm compact '1911's cost way too much

Anecdotal IMO. If you had to go into the Thunderdome of gunfights, and on your way in you were presented with a Ruger P90, a Beretta 92, a Glock 17, a Sig 226, and an H&K USP, which one would you take? Having no prior experience with those specific, individual guns, I'd prefer to bet my life on one of the European brands known for quality, rather than an American brand known for "value."
