I remember walking up the stairs from the MARTA station in South West Atlanta. I was met by a shout of "you must be lost, beloved patriot!" I made it another 30m down the street when someone yelled, "You gonna get killed, cracker!"

When I made it to the auto parts store, the workers were absolutely astounded that I had walked there. :D

I of course had a Sig 228 and 2 spare magazines in a jackass shoulder rig.

see, i can understand why you would be carrying in that situation. i dunno why you were walking around in atlanta, but i can understand about the gun.

when i was in high school i was with 3 buddies going to a braves game, in a convertible with metallica on the radio, and we got lost. we ended up on mlk somehow, and had to bribe a homeless dude with leftover varsity to give us directions how to get out of the area we were in before we got in trouble with the locals. downtown can be dangerous.

Yeah, this.

You mean a Redhawk, right? Blackhawks are SA cowboy revolvers. Great for hunting, but not for CCW.

No I meant Blackhawk. It is .45 Long Colt. with a 6 inch barrel. Heck no it isn't for carry, but neither is the S&W 629. It is for hunting. I wouldn't be using a handgun double action for hunting anyway. Even with my Security 6, I shoot it single action 98% of the time.

Heck, I would have taken a Rock Island Armory 1911, or a SIG over a glock any day.

As for the Rugers - I sold both my rugers a few years ago. My buddy on the other hand, he still has his. My buddy has a ruger P85 and several P89s, he bought them anywhere from around 1993 or 1994 - 2009, and I bet he can count the number of malfunctions on 1 hand.

Anecdotal IMO. If you had to go into the Thunderdome of gunfights, and on your way in you were presented with a Ruger P90, a Beretta 92, a Glock 17, a Sig 226, and an H&K USP, which one would you take?

Beretta 92F. I bought my Beretta 92 in 1989, and have had zero issues. And like I said, my buddies and I used to go to a local sand pit and fire off several thousand rounds in a single day.

You carry always, and then you'll have it when you need it. If you try to pick and choose when you think you'll need a gun, you run the risk of guessing wrong.

I wanted to get some rain-x for my car, but I didn't want to drive, so I took the MARTA. I'm not afraid to walk anywhere. This is America, and I'm not going to be intimidated out of going where I want to go and doing what I want to do.

Having no prior experience with those specific, individual guns, I'd prefer to bet my life on one of the European brands known for quality, rather than an American brand known for "value."

SIG and Kimber are not known for being the most reliable guns these days either...I don't necessarily buy into what everyone says on the internet about SIG or Kimber...but then again I have owned 5 Ruger firearms for over 20 years, and all of them are top notch. So I don't pay any attention to all the Ruger bashing on the internet either.

Uhhh, Sig's are way more expensive and in a whole other bracket than Glock. Of course you would take one over a Glock, anybody would.

How did the OP survive this long with out a gun?

Are the roaming gangs, that are armed with guns, THAT bad of a shot? Or, are you extremely agile?

I agree with you that Ruger makes great revolvers.

For hunting, DA could come in handy if you're dealing with dangerous game like wild boar. Otherwise it's unnecessary.

Depends on the SIG. The alloy framed SIGs cost twice as much.

The polymer framed SIGs cost about the same.

yup.

the sigs everyone always lauds are the 22x's which cost 900+ new compared to 5-600.

the poly sigs are nice, but not near as nice as the 226/8/9's

I own a Kimber Ultra CDP II and a Kimber Dessert Warrior and a Wilson Combat CBQ Elite... And I wouldn't trust any of them more than an out of the box Glock, Sig or H&K. I've never had a single malfunction with tens of thousands of rounds through Glocks, Sigs & H&Ks, but I've had at least 3 malfunctions with each one of my 1911s. I never carry them.

Uh, Sigs are known for being the most reliable. They're the choice of militaries around the world, including some of our special forces. They're the choice of the Secret Service. I have a Sig 226 with more than 20,000 rounds through it without a single malfunction. Same track record (with fewer rounds) with my 220s, my 228, my 239 and my 245.

Sorry no, I do not buy into the glock hype.

You could have probably took that $450, and bought a brand new Ruger instead of a used glock. At least that is what I would have done.
lol. You just proved in one post, you know nothing about handguns. haha.

If we are talking 226/229, way other bracket. p250 then we are not, and I'd rather have a glock than a 250

I haven't been impressed by the polymer sigs. I'd tend to agree based solely on the fact that Glocks are proven reliable in their design, and the Sig is still fairly new.

Your post proves you can not respect a differing opinion.

A lot of it is personal preference.

I do not like glocks, just like I do not like GM/Chevy, dodge or fords.

Uh, Sigs are known for being the most reliable .

The German made ones are. People all over the net seem to have issues with the Exeter NH made ones. I've never shot or owned one, so I never put much stock in internet banter.

Just to over to www.thehighroad.org, when they finish migrating the server and you will find several threads debating whether or not SIG quality is going down.

BTW, the same guy many people blame for Kimber's problems is now running SIG, Ron Cohen

WTF? Really?

I agree with Texashiker. I really don't like the way Glocks feel in my hand. I prefer everything else I have held other than a Glock.

You should trade it in for a H&K USP .40.

yes a brick with a barrel attached to it will solve most people complaints about the glock grip feel D:

have you tried the 4th gens? I no longer need the hogue slip on that I used on my old one when shooting. atleast not initially. I shot a friends 4th gen, mine is on order.

Yes, really. Its called an "opinion", maybe you should get one instead of just following the herd.

I can say I do not like a glock, just like I can say I do not like GM/Chevy, Ford or Dodge and I do not like onions on my cheeseburger - unless the onions are cooked.

To each their own.
