If my scotch drinking friends are any indication scotch drinkers prefer single malts over blends.

Perhaps you missed the part where he said he wants to spend around $50.

An excellent choice to give as a gift. It's pretty much universally liked, even by people who drink the really expensive stuff.
Speaking of scotch, I had the best single malt I have ever tasted over the weekend. It was The MacPhail's Collection 30 year Glenrothes. It was fantastic. I think the guy told me it was $240 a bottle. It was absolutely great.

[I just got some 1987 Glenrothes that I'll be trying over the holiday season. I've never had glenrothes before. Any comments? I'll also have the 1991 Glenrothes on hand as well as their non-vintage one. Also, my younger bro is bringing Lagavulin 21 🙂

Glenrothes is far and away my favorite single malt. I love every one of their editions (except the 1979 cask strength which I've never tried because it's $1000 a bottle!) I love their stuff.

Perhaps you should buy him some terrible scotch so he doesn't try to sleep with your wife.
Just sayin'.

What's a good noob-scotch-drinker scotch to get started with? I've had scotch once, and disliked it. However, at one point in life I disliked beer as well.
