I'm against legalization of marijuana. The majority of us have survived and live full lives without having to have a drug in our system. Why is there a need to legalize this drug just so potheads can legally light up? Keep it illegal and prosecute those who use it. There's no need for it, outside of medical usage and you should be able to legally use it for medical need like any registered drug.
I'm going to assume that you also abstain from alcohol as clearly there is no need for it. I mean, I don't even know why it's legal, right? And don't get me started on nicotine-containing products! We should prosecute all users of these drugs!
There's no need for any intoxicant. Does that make it right to prohibit its use? Some civilized countries are catching on to the idea that making all drugs legal is the way to go, and instead of spending a ton of money prosecuting the users who get themselves into trouble, they instead attempt to use therapy and treatment programs - which, in the end, is also cheaper. Oh, and it's just a more humane approach to life.
Drugs aren't bad, but the vicious circle of prosecution is only breeding further problems in low income areas because the children are then exposed to the realities that it produces, and are raised poorly due to that fact. Instead, if they aren't a menace to society and are not hurting themselves and/or neglecting their children... why take them away? If they demonstrate a lack of control, perhaps mandatory treatment will help them live a better life, and after a few generations, I guarantee inner city violence would plummet.
