Bill Barr claimed under oath not to know about threats to Michigan Gov. My guess he wasn't interested because it was a bunch of white nationalists. Trump's base. Haul Barr's fat ass back into a hearing and either bust him for perjury or complete incompetence.

6 perps kind of makes it harder to trot out the lone wolf, mentally unstable trope this time.

Disturbing part per a former FBI guy I heard on the news is plots like this usually involve 3-6 and sometimes 10 other people to support them. Sort of disturbing to think 30-100 other people could have know about this and either did nothing or supported the idea in some perifial way.

Republican Sheriff defends kidnap plot perps, claims “maybe they were trying to arrest her, not kidnap her”.

Said sheriff just so happened to share the stage at a protest rally with one of those involved in the plot...no biggie, totally objective opinion lol.

Leaf says he doesn’t know of Null’s alleged involvement in the plot and doesn’t have any regrets about being on stage with him.

“Do you have any regrets about being on stage, sharing a stage with a guy who’s now being charged in a plot to kidnap the governor?” asked FOX 17’s Aaron Parseghian.

“It’s just a charge, and they say a 'plot to kidnap' and you got to remember that. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people are angry with the governor, and they want her arrested. So are they trying to arrest or was it a kidnap attempt? Because you can still in Michigan if it's a felony, make a felony arrest,” Leaf said.

“I think it's MCL 764.4, 764.5 somewhere on there [MCL 764.16]and it doesn't say if you are an elected office that you're exempt from that arrest. I have to look at it from that angle and I’m hoping that's more what it is, in fact, these guys are innocent till proven guilty so I’m not even sure if they had any part of it,” Leaf added.

holy shit that sheriff needs to be removed and interviewed by the FBI ASAP. that is indefensible. he didn't explicitly support the domestic terrorists, but by trying to downplay the severity of the plot, he sure as hell implied he did.

But...but...but....

Boogaloo boys hate cops! Can we at least stick with consistent messaging?

We had red hat territory law enforcement officers spreading bullshit that antifa was responsible for the fires in Oregon. This sadly does not surprise me. It just shines a little light on just woven insanity is into our public officials.

Michigan AG on Maddow tonight. Evidently several of the plotters can be seen in photos at the protests back in April.

One of the things mentioned in the briefing yesterday was that the group was compiling a list of the home addresses of police officers. I wonder if it will turn out those addresses are for the state troopers who held them back at the state house?

So has any right wing news source, person, president etc. condemned this action yet?
Not that I'm aware of. This morning Fox was a steady dumb beat, er drum beat, of Russia Hoax, FISA Warrants, Biden would just cheat at the next debate, etc. Let's face it, the right was holding these militia gang members as poster children of "Patriot Freedom Fighters". Now that it turns out that they wanted the violent overthrow of a democratically elected state governor they're just being their normal hypocritical selves. And the whole part of all the lives the police that would have been lost I guess is more like "thin blue line...never heard of it".

How dare she not thank the President for protecting her since it is HIS FUCKING JOB.

It not “his” Justice Department, it’s the People’s. Wanna Be Tinpot Boy wants credit for the people who tried to kidnap her and the law enforcement response. I am surprised by that.

Well, we know of at least one sheriff in Michigan who has no qualms with deputizing white militiamen when the “boogaloo” starts.
The militia boogaloo movement existed before Trump and will persist after him. They are aligned with Trump only in the sense that he validates their existence and seems to share their militant libertarian desire to destroy our existing system of government.

Trump doesn’t share any “militant libertarian” desires—he thinks these people are stupid beyond belief.

Trump’s only calculation here is “the Federal Government can’t tax me/prosecute me if the government no longer exists!”

That sounds militant and libertarian to me...destroy the government so it can’t harm me in performing one of its basic functions

I mean what was the plan. Let’s assume they successfully kidnapped the Governor. Let’s assume they storm and capture the State House.
What is the next step? Do they really think all lawmakers & law enforcement would be like “well they did capture the castle...”
Did they think there wouldn’t be a Federal Response? Do they think they could issue laws and direct enforcement of those laws?

Really bad plan. They may have planned the kidnapping well but they ignored all the next steps.

I'm no fan of Barr, but the FBI usually compartmentalizes this stuff & plays it close to the vest for opsec. It's entirely reasonable that he may not have known at the time of the interview. It's important to remember that the FBI keeps tabs as well as they can over an unfortunately large number of far right whackaloo organizations. Back in the 60's, the joke was that there were more FBI informants in the Klan than actual Klansmen.

Yea I can see that. Its just this plot may have been of high enough profile? But yea 350M people equals a lot of wackos... he cant be briefed on all of them.

One would think that a State Governor would be on a pretty short list of names that would wind up on a desk. But then again, with this administration and it's lizard men occupants, maybe the FBI didn't want to risk their cover getting blown.

I was avoiding this story as I knew it would be disturbing and I was right. Sherriff dar leaf defending them was particularly concerning. Best I can tell he was reelected back in 2016 so hopefully he is up again gets the boot.
