'Fargo,' 1997

Edie-Falco-Fargo-Pilot.jpg

FX recently greenlit an updated 'Fargo' TV series which will feature another set of wacky local cops and a true crime murder that just happens to take place in the same location as the acclaimed Coen Bros. movie. Weirdly enough, this isn't the first time a 'Fargo' TV show has been attempted.

In 1997, a pilot was filmed for a potential 'Fargo' series with a pre-'Sopranos' Edie Falco in the Marge Gunderson role, dontcha know. Falco wasn't a bad substitute for Frances McDormand, and the show had the potential to be a fun cross between 'Law & Order' and 'Northern Exposure.'

Of course, it never happened, and Falco went on to Carmela Soprano and Nurse Jackie. The pilot ended up being aired in 2003 on Trio, an excellent cable network that itself was short-lived probably due to the fact that it mostly ran awesome, too-good-for-TV pilots. (You can find the 'Fargo' pilot on torrent sites, if you're into that sort of thing.)

Three episodes in and its still very enjoyable.

Nice shower scene at the end. Can I call it the Red Shower?

I just realized the police woman who suspects Lester is called Molly Solverson. Get it, Solver-son.

yeah last nights episode was awesome. this show is great. billy bob is the man, although he is a little "too good" imo. but that is what makes him hilarious and a badass.

for a show that is 1:15 long, it sure as shit flies by when watching it. i feel like i'm fast forwarding every 5 minutes, but no, it's just very engaging and keeps you entertained.

I was snickering at the bourbon milkshake scene, then rolling on the ground at the "what makes the biggest hole?" scene, then D: at the red shower scene.

Billy Bob Thornton is too good in this. He cracks me up one scene, then creeps me out a scene later...

I haven't been bored with this show yet. Quality episodes.

Another excellent episode! This show is really hitting on all cylinders.

I heard a theory about Stavros Milos (aka: the King), and it seems really plausible to me. While not exactly a spoiler, per se (since it's just a theory)... I'll throw up some spoiler tags, for anyone not interested...

He has acquired a large sum of money, of which the details have not been explained, but certainly not on the up-and-up. He also has a red ice scraper framed and mounted on the wall.

In the movie, Carl Showalter (Steve Buscemi) buries over $900k in the snow, and marks with with a... Wait for it... Red ice scraper.

Well, it turned out to be true.

Great way to tie in this series to the movie, the finding of the money. I didn't read the spoiler before it happened, but the minute he looked at the fence I figured it out. It sets up the possibility that the sheriff from the movie might show up. I wonder if so, will she played by Frances McDormand?

OK, so how did Bilbo and his bed get back into his hospital room? :colbert:

He snuck back into the bed that he first escaped in and put the bandages back on his head.

I'm more interested in where the fishies came from. Wtf was that...

yeah they have some explaining to do with that. i also thought it was pretty lame how the female cop went directly to the dryer and took it apart searching inside of it...

that said, this is one of the best shows on tv right now. i caught up yesterday and man such a great show. billy bob is hilarious. i also like how anyone can die in this show.
