Am I the only guy on earth that thinks this is the most craptastic game ever? I love first person shooters. I absolutely despise the lame ass crafting and gathering shit. This thing just drags along from one boring area to another.

I can't believe that I paid fifty bucks for this piece of shit.

I thought it was decent but the walking everywhere or driving places was a little annoying as I didn't really like liberating bases much. So it dragged on too long for me but that's a good thing since most games now are very short but tend to be very attracting too.

It's much better than Far Cry 2 though. Walking somewhere is very quick and it should never take you more than a few minutes to reach any destination.

The crafting is almost optional. There's a few things you'll probably need but for the most part you can skip a good bit of it and I have not found myself running around like crazy for some material or skin. I've gotten everything through chance.

The crafting is almost optional.

I felt like it was totally needed on ammo, loot, and wallet at least.

It depends on your playstyle probably, but the starting wallet won't even hold enough money to buy some of the later weapons (which never go free, even with all the towers).

I never felt outgunned with some of the starter weapons. Although the money thing is necessary, a lot of the rest of it is really not. I don't think I used any meds except health packs.

There are a few things that annoy me with this game though.

1) You can survive and kill a crocodile after he gets you in a death roll but a 10 foot drop kills you. Also a bull shark doesn't kill you with 1 pass and you cannot knife it.

2) Once you liberate the bases the island seems empty. No more random pirate encounters and almost everyone you run into is a friendly.

3) When you release a caged animal in an enemy base the AI is so poor that the tiger or bear gets stuck and the pirates know it escaped instantly even before the beast escapes. So usually the animal dies before it kills anyone for you which seems lame when I was undetected and broke the cage silently. It would have been much better if it escaped and mauled someone before the guards were on alert that the tiger escaped. At least that would give you a reason to take the stealth approach and release the animal. As it is now it doesn't make any sense to bother sometimes.

Yeah the walking part, I had confused it with assassins creed 3. The walking back and forth in that game killed me. Getting to places in far cry 3 wasn't hard. Since I had not liberated most bases I would drive half way and walk half way. I didn't get the croc parts either :/

Sometimes I just wanna shoot stuff. They added a bit more to this game than is necessary. I guess you try to appeal to all people and that's what you get.

Pretty much stopped playing. Didn't even get to the second island in SP, but put in about 20 hours into co-op.

I think it might have been a better game without all the map icons. You never really need money (get a ton from just doing regular stuff), so there wasn't any motivation to 'go explore' to find things. Everything and anything is marked, just hop in a jeep and go there. The island ended up feeling really generic to me with that setup.

Agreed, I'm losing interest fast. My problem with this game is that it's just way too dumbed-down. All the mechanics are there: awesome world, solid combat, good story and characters but even on the hardest difficulty there's no challenge at all.

I don't know why they decided to give you free guns for unlocking towers. It makes $ completely useless. I don't even bother looting bodies or opening chests anymore. There's just no point. I crafted all the upgrades before finishing the second mission and now that element is gone from the game too.

I would like this a lot more if it were more like Stalker, or Skyrim with some challenge and a long progression curve. Or go the other way and add some crazy powers like Crysis to help keep things interesting.

It's got fantastic bones, and it's genuinely fun, but ultimately it's just too shallow to be great.

That Ink monster was stupid, reminded me of Batman AA. But waking up with Citra having sex with me was cool. Killing her brother was stupid too. But over all I love the game anyway, and I don't even like open world games that much. Don't even bother crafting anything but the ammo pouch, wallet and weapons holsters.

You're missing most of the game by driving everywhere. Exploring the jungle and encountering random wildlife is more interesting than the clumsy driving mechanic in this game.

Go play CoD if you just "wanna shoot stuff". This isn't that type of game.

FYI, the Exclusive Assignment is half off till 1/3. You buy it with Upoints. Instead of the 40, its 20.

Also, the game seems have gotten easy on the second island. I guess a silenced 50 cal will have that effect. Not that it was hard before. Maybe having that pmc outfit takes away most of the stealth. hehe, although when I first got it I tried to just walk into an outpost and turn off the alarm. I was actually surprised when they shot at me.

The 2nd island's outposts have more than one alarm. Keep that in mind. If you shoot one, they will notice, and go for the 2nd alarm.

I've had fun orchestrating hits on multiple alarms.

Game def needs some expanded content though. More missions, or someway to respawn bad guys. Far Cry 2 respawned too often.. FC3 almost not enough..

Haven't done any of the main missions since reaching the south island.
Taking care of all the side missions (wanted, trials of rikykat, hunting...)
Not seeing any replay value here as it has become quite dull.

Just bought the game. Lost my Sunday entirely playing FC3. I haven't had this much fun in a game in years, definitely GOTY for me.

I've only done a few of the main missions, the rest has been side missions, and exploring and liberating the island.

Question: Are the weapons you start out with (four Assault, two shotties etc.) the only weapons you have in the game, or do you get others as you progress through the main game?

You get more as you progress. Most are unlocked with radio towers. Anytime you at least pick up a gun, even if you just pick it up and put it back down, its yours. Even hunting quests will get you the weapon you use for the quest. Some are also unlocked on the second island. There are also signature weapons that you can get by collecting X number of items. If I were to play again, I would focus on the signature weapons first. The Shredder and Bushman are excellent, and I wish I had them earlier on my playthrough.

Got it for christmas and played a good chunk of the day today. Great game so far. There's a lot to do and I can kind of go at my own pace so that's good for me. It's one of the better looking "stock" games I've played too. With mods other games may look better eventually but I can't remember another game looking better than this out of the box on my PC.

There's a few small things I don't care for, but not enough to detract from the fun:
  • One is that the enemy seems to hear me holding my grenade before throwing it, because they'll zero right in on me if I pull the pin and I'm close enough. Doesn't make much sense really.
  • I'm also not a big fan of all the junk items that are there for nothing other than to give them a reason to have a "sell" aspect to the game.
  • I'm also a little perplexed at what the game considers a melee kill. There's one skill that requires 3 melee kills, but for some reason that doesn't include takedowns. So I had to go out of my way to be NOT hidden just so I could melee kill them and not take them down immediately. They're both knife kills so it shouldn't matter, but for some reason it does.
  • I can see why people might want some of the camps to respawn. It seems like you get some pretty sweet signature weapons, but really only after a good chunk of the game is completed. Not much use in getting an awesome weapon if nobody is there to use it on.

Noticed something odd during a cutscene. Apparently your weapon isn't truly "holstered" during cutscenes, or at least this one. You can see what looks like a "cloaked" view of my gun and hand that you normally wouldn't see except that for some reason the fire doesn't go through it. Even the parts you can see through look blurred for some reason. I didn't notice this in other cutscenes but it might have been there and just not apparent without the fire. I'm not sure why they did this and it seems pretty lazy.

far cry 1 was my favorite fps of all time i just loved the enviornment and the story was good until the end, but the gameplay just felt great to me. Also it being my first sand box had something to do with it. After hearing FC2 had no relation to FC1 other than the name i didnt bother. However since FC3 setting seems to resemble FC1 i might try it.

I love sniping the animal's cage and watching it take out the entire base.
