Set the game to borderless windowed and use the two .ini files to manually put your 21:9 resolution. There should be a guide somewhere about it on the internet, you're not the first one asking 😉

Btw. my PC bit the dust while I was exploring Far Harbor... there must have been a shortcircuit on the motherboard or in the PSU... cause it smelled like something got burnt and the fuse blows each time I try to power the PC :awe:

Goodbye my trusty Q9450 and GTX670 🙁 You servered well over the years... especially the CPU! Such fond memories throughout the years.... I'm now waiting for Broadwell-E next week and GTX1070 and I'll start building from scratch 🙂

Though BW-E and a 1070 will chew through this game. I just installed my GTX 970 and difference is drastic compared to the 7970. FO4 loves some NVIDIA cards.

The good news is it will seem like a brand new game now. I have a 390 and it's a really pretty game with everything maxed.

lol I see a lot of those. My favorite was a pack of dogs who were sunk in a highway and for some reason walking on their front legs only, so that all that could be seen over most of their circuit was a line of dog butts sliding over the road surface.
 
I managed to get the ultra-wide resolution working but I set the refresh rate at 100Hz and the fps dipped down to 25. Is that game locked to 60fps?

I've had a bunch get stuck below foundation piers... but that is nothing.

Worst so far has been
Warwick Homestead way down south.
NPCs have spawned and died in a big tub of water.

On another note, loving Far Harbor. Barely explored the island so far, mostly been walking through to quest locations. Interesting thing was that I sent a settler to do supply runs and found out I could link him to Boston settlements... Werd.

Ha. I suppose we have all seen random settlers standing on top of buildings they couldn't possible climb up on, or cars dropping off of overpasses for no reason whatsoever... but the weirdest/creepiest thing I've seen was...

I set a provisioner to travel between Warwick Estates and the big island just ofshore, in order to connect the island to the trade network. I first wondered if the game would let me do that, since there is no overland route or bridge... it did. I then wondered how the provisioner would get there... he swam. So anyway, at one point I was exploring the sea bottom between the island and Warwick and I came upon a dead pack Brahmin just bobbing along in the current at the bottom of the sea. Wish I had capped it.

Back in the Commonwealth I had something scare the crap out of me, moving through the water faster than I could run. I backpedaled like crazy to get as much space between me and this monster when it came out of the water - and then it did and it was a provisioner's pack Brahmin. Seems they panic and move at running speed even though they are under water.

Preferably sent to North Korea and imprisoned in a camp where the nearest thing to a computer is an abacus. If he or she was aiming for mindless tedium, then brother, you nailed it.

Indeed. I really like the Far Harbor DLC in general though, with the exception of that and the fact that everything seems to have reverted to bullet sponge mode. But there are interesting environments and some actual ethical dilemas.
 
I'm not finding it too sponge-y, mainly because I'm playing on Survival, and that has a 1.5x damage-done multiplier, plus up to another +50% for Adrenaline. Incoming damage is also 2x, but that's OK.

Speaking of which, I just survived an absolutely brutal scripted monster attack on my sole settlement in Far Harbor. I was in X01 Power Armor, ran through all my plasma cartridges, and just barely survived. If I hadn't put up a missile turret a game-day before, I think that would have been all she wrote.

It sure was interesting, but I wish I'd had more opportunity to put up more defenses first. I've been very resource starved. In hindsight I probably should have brought along a Steel shipment or two from Boston, but I'd still be limited by things like oil, fiber optics, and aluminum.

It's a good job that Nick doesn't mind when I shoot up with lots of combat booster drugs. Psycho Jet was one of the things that made a difference.

I'm just on that quest now but started exploring the surrounding area first and building up my settlements. Due to the lack of equipment on the island, I had to go raid some Gunner camps in the Commonwealth to stock up on armor and weapons.

Just so you know, I found it interesting, you can send someone as a supply line person to commonwealth settlements. Since I have every settlement linked in the commonwealth, I just sent a supply line there and then had access to everything 😀. So now I have massive Far Harbor settlements too.

I'm really enjoying this game! I am usually a Bethesda game 'hater' but I think they did a good job this time. I am glad I waited this long though because there are some mods and tweaks that I couldn't have played without. I have a 2560x1080 resolution which requires a mod and a separate program to run in the background to make it work, which is ridiculous... but still, at least it works and I am really enjoying it. I think the locations are far better this time, the graphics look amazing, and a much better selection of weapons this time, and they work well.

Plenty I don't like too but overall I'm happy.

I haven't yet gone back to Survival mode. Don't know I can handle the lack of the console to carry all my loot back in one trip. Same with fast travel. It doesn't take long to cross the island, but still, at the end of cleaning out an area I want to get back to my settlement with my loot. Also, several times I've gotten trapped in the environment.

I set up a supply line to Sanctuary Hills so I am limited only by aluminum. However, while I have lots of heavy machine gun turrets (defense > 400) I have no missile turrets, which seem to do too much damage to settlers and infrastructure. My only raid has been from trappers, and while it definitely took awhile to kill seven trappers, I never fired a shot. Sounds like I need to weapon up?
 
It appears they've added a new kind of randomly-generated settlement defense quest.

I stopped by The Slog, and a settler told me that they'd been approached by Gunners, and they thought they'd be back. She asked me to set up defenses, which the game immediately marked as "100% complete" since I naturally had put up defenses when I first acquired The Slog. Then a group of 3 gunners attacked. This is new, since I never saw this prior to the most recent update.

Anyway, I think maybe the very-challenging Far Harbor defense mission was one of those. A settler told me that the fog-condensers were out, and that they wanted my protection while they fixed them. While that happened, 4 waves of monsters attacked - Gulpers, Anglers, Fog Crawlers, and Yao Gaui / Wolves. There were a total of at least 15 monsters, all in the high 40's for level.

I LOVE those defense quests. Good to hear that they happen back on the mainland too. However, they have to make them harder though. If I recall correctly, enemy difficulty is scaled based on distance from Sanctuary. It'd be nice if it also leveled with your character's level.

Also, I had to get rid of some cages at a settlement. When I started Far Harbor, I was heading back to the same settlement to defend it every hour, probably because of the cages.

And the quest talked about above in Far Harbor, I finally got to it.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING! It felt like playing Portal minus the portal gun, and I hated portal -- finished the first game reluctantly, didn't bother with the sequel. If it were 3 levels long, maybe that would be okay, but it was five levels and the last two were laborious.
 
I'm still on the Island, but I've noticed that two or three times a day, my Commonwealth settlements are being attacked. I fear that if I go back now, I'll be gang beaten to within an inch of my life.

Although given that my character has banged Cait, Curie and Piper within a few months of seeing his wife brutally murdered, I have to admit there's a certain amount of justice there. 😀
 
Honestly, if it had been me, I would have restricted attacks to your current map. It feels annoying that I can get attacks in Far Harbor when I'm busy getting supplies in the Commonwealth, and obviously vice-versa.

Alternately, the "settlement attack" should have a "settlement successfully defended itself without your help" result. Which given the number of turrets I've built and the amount of gear I've distributed, they ought to be able to do.

RE: The Lone Survivor's sexual morals... yeah, this is the first Fallout game where they've given the main character a background which makes this problematic. Fallout 1 and 2 you're some unspecified vault dweller, background's really up to you. Fallout 3 you're a teenager, or maybe an early-twenty something, with no definite connections. New Vegas you're an amnesiac wasteland dweller.

This hasn't stopped me, either, since I can't manage an attachment to the murdered wife or, frankly, to the missing son.

In this most recent run, when I finally got around to talking Piper into it, she insisted on working bent over a weapons workbench the entire time. Which made the conversation particularly weird.
 
I have seen that "successfully defended" message. Have not yet seen a failed message. Problem is I usually miss the message so I don't know how many I have missed. I too go very heavy on defense, though there is probably significant damage from the turrets if the attackers spawned inside the perimeter. If they spawn outside, they rarely make it inside or do any significant damage. Especially at The Slog, turrets on the far side tend to mow down crops, even though the attackers are flying. Must be a fairly complicated mechanic for scheduling; sometimes I have had two or three a day, other times I go days without noticing an attack.

Agreed on the lack of attachment. The advantage of having a voiced protagonist is the ability to convey emotion, but for me, both the voice actor and the writers really failed to deliver on this. They did better on humor IMO.
 
I just finished the Memory Retrieval mission, and it was excellent. It's not remotely like Myst - the only overlap between the two is that it involves puzzles. It's not all that close to Portal, though "being like Portal" is normally high praise, not a slam. It's closest to The Talos Principle, only without the Freshman-level philosophy.

If I have any complaints, it's that of the 5 puzzles, only the 5th required any serious thought. Puzzle 4 wasn't too bad, but still pretty easy.

It's an amazing little game they managed to shoehorn into a DLC. With a little expansion, I could easily imagine it being a pretty decent little indie puzzle game all by itself.
 
Well. I finished my Survival run. Level 105. The Far Harbor memory quest reminded me of System Shock somehow. It felt really different from the rest of the game, which was a big surprise and I enjoyed it a lot! I hope they get to come up with some unique stuff in the other DLCs too 🙂
