why does a .50 pistol have longer range and damage than a .50 rifle??

I found some pipe weapon that had high damage, like 55. I was able to mod it into a pistol that does 94 damage but as a rifle it only does 59 damage....the range is like 278 but the rifle is only like half that.

Does that make any sense? I do have like 3 points into the pistol wielding perk so is it adding all that bonus to it? But I don't see that happen with other pistols that I can tell.

Are lock picking and hacking worth the points?

hacking has been very rare for me so far. i think I found only 1 thing I couldn't unlock because it was only done by hacking and I didn't have high enough skill, and that was for a power armor (which I never use).

Check your mods.

The Heavy and/or calibrated bodies tend to add range.
Bayonets and compensators tend to kill range.

Also, pipe stuff is inferior to the other weapons, but pipe guns can be modified for many different calibers, meaning you can easily suck up all your ammo with just two guns (regular and bolt-action).

I didn't know that. I modified a pipe pistol into a sniper rifle though 🙂.

For the most part I think hacking and lockpicking are alternative routes to the same thing, i.e. either pick the safe's lock or open it through the terminal, etc. But at least in FO3/NV there was some stuff you could only get to via one or the other.

I've both, I hate not being able to open or see what there is, hacking ones are pretty easy since what I do is get down to the last hack attempt and exit the terminal and try again with full set of attempt hacks, repeat if needed.

I do find F4 too easy especially with the power suit, I actually tried the second power suit I found for one quest and left it back at settlers camp because it was a cake walk.

Probably even with companions(I like to solo) it would make the game easier.

I can see why a lot of players are notching up the difficulty a level or two.

I do hope they fix the camp status bugs on the Pip boy, getting a bit tried of seeing only have three beds status when I have like actually twelve beds in camp.

Same with me, just sort of amblin along, and the only other game on my list atm is Farcry 4, which I'll grab on a sale at some point.
Not to go too off topic, but amazon has it on sale now for 50% off pc code or 66% off PS4 / XBox one (why cheaper for physical and not digital i don't know)

This is the first game really that I have bumped up the difficultly from the start, playing on hard just to get more legendary items primarily, although they are not that special I find

I made a gun into a 50 with different receivers barrels etc but if i put a rifle stock on the damage and range is half of what it is with a pistol stock. The stock/grips is what is changing the damage, which is odd.

The power armor i talked about is in a locked cage on a train. Only way to get it is to hack a terminal, no way to lockpick.
That was the very first spare suit I came across. Like Mem, I hate not having access to things, so I put a spare point (I tend to keep a couple for things like this) into hacking and got it.

Do you have any perk points invested in Gunslinger and no perks in Rifleman? Gunslinger increases damage and range of pistols. Changing the grip/stock changes which perk applies. If you go auto, then you need the Commando perk instead.

Also, its good to have as many suits as possible for the big final battle, and lots of fusion cores.
Even if its just a frame, you want as many companions in them as you can stuff.

Got my first crash 76 hours in.

Settler on a bridge south of Grayberry, west of the water purification plant. He was sitting on his ass, I gave him Purified water, it crashed to desktop.

yes i have perks in gunslinger but not rifleman, but i don't notice this drastic change on other weapons I mod.

That's because you aren't changing their type from pistol to rifle. I know that laser weapons and pipe guns can change from pistol to rifle just with the stock; I'm not sure if it works that way with other weapons because I haven't tested it. Specifically, I'm not sure if the pistol-grip double barreled shotgun counts as a pistol or not. I know the full stock version counts as a rifle for perks.

Well there's something to make me quit using mod manager..ffs updated and it wrecked Skyrim. Knowing your users have all this elaborate configurations, you would think they would avoid completely overhauling the damn thing. Grr.

It's official: I do not want to live in a world without full-automatic weapons.

I bumped up my Rifleman skill and kept modding my rifles to use semi-auto receivers because the damage values were higher. Found out I had 4000 fusion cells so I modded a laser rifle for full auto. So much fun! Then I modded my combat rifle... Looks like I'll need to sink some points into Commando.

Yeah there's only a few spots where you have to use a terminal for a particular door or have to pick the lock to get to the loot.

Do you go through ammo too quickly that way?

Depends how much you explore and look for safes and locked areas, if you just blow through the game blowing heads up and generally not exploring much or very carefully then they wont be as much use. I level these 2 things up first above anything but I also scour the "dungeons" and general landscape for all the hidden goodies, sometimes they're hard to spot under beds and behind cabinets and things, but you can get some really nice loot especially good for guns with rare ammo and rare components.

Good to get early so that you don't have to revisit cleared dungeons to get loot you missed first time.
