Really looking forward to this. I finally have a rig that should run this PC game decently.

What is the best pre-order deal for us Canadian hosers, eh?

An album of screenshots from the PS4 version was leaked yesterday. Lots of people freaking out because they think the graphics are terrible.

I'm not really one to care much about the graphics, but this picture has me scratching my head about the aesthetics. I'm pretty sure the power armor from FO3 looked better, its looks like plastic here, like a toy figurine almost, I think they got the aesthetic all wrong.

Seems to me the paint job on the armor is detracting from the overall sense of it looking like the power armor we are used to looking at in FO3. Still doesn't look right.

Come on it's console, also running on an engine so old with duct-tape and new coatings of paint to help keep to "fresh and competitive".

Fallout series was never about graphics fidelity anyway, as long as they nail gameplay, that is the most important element. Let's hope they do nail it.

Also, I'm amazed at the marketing power of these big AAA titles. Nuka Cola, Fallout Beer, merchandising out the wazoo!

I have to assume that those pictures were taken by 'very lucky' people who got to play it early on their PS4 or XBOne? I know the physical copies are probably ready by now, but I doubt that pictures of the early moments of the game were taken and 'leaked' voluntarily by reviewers who probably got their copy now for their review that will most likely come out this week (so I guess it's just some random Joes who got it early?).

Anyway, not matter how I cut it... I'm jealous.

Some of those console shots are late PS2 era complete with plastic textures and a lack of detail.

Witcher III has come and gone, I doubt FO4 stands up to that writing quality. Elder Scrolls may have a pretty world but its the definition of cliche when it comes to plot, Fallout series is a few steps better and that is about it. Both are hugely overhyped. Its as bad as Star Wars.

Fallout is more about this big world with a ton to explore. Witcher 3 will have better graphics (by farrrrrr), better story, better voice acting, better animations. Fallout 4 will have a lot more to explore but a crappy story with terrible voice acting and a dated engine, like always.

Witcher 3's combat was a big improvement over W2, but it was still quite repetitive. I think FO4 will be better combatwise, at least for me, because FPS gunplay is fun. I find VATS to be annoying and never really used it in 3/NV. I hope they have improved the engine though, because it's always been kind of floaty and crappy for an FPS.

It will be a great game though if you enjoy it for what it is. I'm looking forward to it. It's a shame it is this dated in the visuals department though. Witcher 3 looks pretty decent even on console, there is no excuse for FO4 being exclusive to the next gen consoles to look like it's still on the 360/PS3.

The game will probably still win GOTY and RPG of the year, even though it should go to Witcher 3. It's just a far more popular series.

Fallout is clearly more popular than Witcher, but Witcher 3 sold very well I think. It was very hyped and lived up to it. Personally I think it will take a huge effort to dethrone it from Game of the Year. I'm very much looking forward to Fallout 4 but I don't really expect it to be anything fresh or new. Witcher 3 raised the bar with production quality and the quality of the side quests.

It would pretty much have to be a review copy. The game just went gold about a week ago, I really doubt that any copies have shipped to distributors yet.

Any fellow Canadians pondering a pre-order, I recommend buying from the green man. $59.99 USD - 20% = $48.00 USD, which in CDN is about $63. Steam has it listed for $80 CDN, and the green man gives you a steam key. I pre-ordered mine this way.

Stoked.

I was reading a bit on the impressions posted on reddit.com/r/fallout and it appears gunplay is much improved and VATS is unnecessary. There is mention that the hit boxes for some of the small creatures felt off, but that was the only complaint on combat. Weapon's design and the settlement building got a lot of the attention and is very robust. The player liked the new perk system.

However the player mentions that the dialogue system and many of the quests are bland. He believes fans who preferred New Vegas will see this as a step backwards. The dialogue system seems to be basically Yes, No, Sarcastic/Jerk Response, Question. He says its like the dialogue system is trying to be Mass Effect but fails.

Frankly I'm disappointed but not surprised, interesting dialogue and multifaceted characters seem to be beyond Bethesda's capabilities.

For my personal GotY I agree with you. However critically speaking Fallout 4 will get some GotY awards. Bethesda, while I enjoy their games, is one of those developers that seem to get a large pass on flaws in their games come review time. Rare is the review that mentions the bugs, poor characters, lack of a developed choice/consequence system, and weak dialogue. Instead you'll get inane things like how the reviewer chased around a butterfly for 30 minutes.

Not just from reviewers, players as well. I don't get how they keep taking credit for putting out broken games the community fixes up. Even trying to make money off of it with the whole paid mods fiasco.

I'd rather play a flawed, fun game than something thats technically perfect and just plain sucks.

The plethora of COD's and BF's come to mind immediately.

Meh, Dice games are almost always broken on release as well, and that always unleashes a shitstorm. At least they fix their games eventually.
For some reason Bethesda is not held to this very basic standard.

Either way, their games are flawed in many more ways than just the technical aspects.
From the new leaked info I've read so far I guess Bethesda just doesn't consider interesting characters and quest lines to be integral to the RPG genre. Despite it being one of the points they're most often criticized on, they still don't bother to improve on it.
Imo FNV was superior to F3 in every way. But they completely seem to ignore all the improvements that game brought, instead spending time implementing fluff like the dog.
To each their own but I hope Obsidian gets to make the next Fallout game again.

I'm excited. My wife is excited. Bethesda's games, while displaying some interesting behavior at times, and never looking really great, have never been as broken as others make them out to be. Reading peoples' comments on Bethesda's QC, which does need improving, you'd think we were looking at Arkham Knight levels of incompetence, and that's just never the case.

I've had issues, and even hard locks on FO3 on 360. I wish those didn't exist. But Skyrim on PC pretty much just worked for me. As did Oblivion (360) and Morrowind (PC).

And if it's honestly believed that FO3 didn't have interesting characters, I can't change your mind.
