You do understand that you don't have to do any of that to play the game.

I don't know the whole build a base like its Sims, setup turrets like its tower defense kind of doesn't sit right with me.

On another note, does the game look very cartoony to anyone else?

But that's the beauty of Bethesda - you don't have to do any of that. Play the game the way you want to play it.

Personally I can already see myself waddling back from every scavenging mission, burdened by wondrous junk.

Also, the Steam summer sale has Fallout 3 GOTY and Fallout New Vegas Ultimate edition (each with all the DLC) on sale for $11.99 each.

Yeah that's true, I didn't mind building at all in Skyrim so hopefully they get it right in this game.

This year has so many GOTY candidates;

GTAV(PC release so maybe doesn't count)
Witcher 3
Fallout 4
MGSV
Arkham Knight

It's a great thing you're so open minded about these kinds of stylistic choices, right? Like, Peter Jackson's stylistic choice to shoot the Hobbit at 48fps: "Some like that shitty Peter Jackson 120fps [sic] filming, but it is just as dreadful. I think people that like that crap prefer cartoons and computer-generated images....and generally don't know anything about film". Check yourself before accusing me of being "obtuse".

"Obsolete" is a term perfectly appropriate for B&W. These days It's been abandoned for all but an insignificant minority of material. It's obsolete in the same way the horse and carriage is obsolete. That mode of transport might still be used occasionally as a novelty, but that doesn't make it any less obsolete.

lol.

you're hopeless, kid. I think I was watching film when you were fingering your diapers.

You don't understand what obsolete means. This isn't about a piece of tech that is outperformed in measurable way by some other.

You could argue that analogue phones are obsolete simply because they are destroyed by cellphones in the market, which is pretty much true--plus the fact that the smartphones do everything else. ...you will never be able to argue that "digital voice" is better quality than the old analogue phones, though. cell phones sound like shit in comparison, and anyone with any experience wiht this knows that to be true.

...but this isn't the same thing as film. COlor does one thing...uh color...and B&W serves another purpose: high contrast. You use the proper tool for the proper subject.

You don't understand that, because you're mind is limited to "graphics!" and "cartoons!" and nothing else. You don't care about film--you care about effects and shiny, and toys. You are clueless, kid.

heh--I assumed your butthurt must have lingered for no reason.

Look what's coming in the special addition! I've never ordered a collectors edition of anything, but this is just too cool to pass up. Plus they have it for PC version.

Just watched the presentation. Have to hand it to Bethesda they know how to get maximum effect from what they show.

I've got a bunch of thoughts after it though

1.) To the customization options......wow impressive.

2.) Voiced protagonists? Not sure I like that. Always made story based mods easier to fit into the game with silent PCs. Though it will be easier for most people to get into.

3.) How are the going to handle mods? I figure they are going to reattempt the pay structure somehow with Steam. Everyone get ready to fork over some $ if you want a decent PC UI is my guess.

4.) Multi-solution quests. Saw nothing about this. I really hope Bethesda learned from Obsidian on making your skills more important, emphasizing dialogue, and multiple approaches to finishing quests.

5.) No ironsights? Maybe I missed this.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Part of me is glad to see more fallout content with some unambiguous improvements to graphics, the engine, customization and especially the dialogue.

However a lot of this stuff really rustles my jimmies as a fan ever since the original games, they were adult content games yet the game looks like its market at kids, the audience during the e3 event I think most depressed me, their constant over reaction to little things like they all start shouting "weeeeew" when Nuka cola comes on screen, there's the shreiking SJWs when they mention you can play as a woman, despite that being in fallout already. The thing that seemed to get the most reaction was the reveal of the pip boy, they even mention on stage in front of everyone that it's a stupid gimmick and they all still lose their mind over it. I can't help but think it's these kind of kids who are heavily contributing to the dumbing down of this stuff.

I'm in 2 minds about the building stuff, that also looks really gimmicky, crafting stuff to defend existing towns would have been cool by itself, but fallout is about struggling to survive in a world full of junk, not about building some crazy empire of towns, I don't really see how that level of crafting adds anything to the fallout games, especially considering they're single player and no one will ever get to see them, not like Rust or many of the other similar building games around where they're multi player.

A lot of it looks really cool, but there is something that gives me a very "off" feeling about this whole thing, something vaguely worrying about what was sacrificed in the game in order to achieve the sims-like mini game.

Also there's no speak of some of the most important aspects of Fallout, historically it has been the story, a world in conflict, good writing and interesting quests that can be solved in many different ways using more skills than just combat. We saw a dramatic drop in that in Fallout 3 compared to 2 and that was somewhat revived by letting some of the original team work on New Vegas which helped add some of this stuff back in, but it's worrying that all this has taken a back seat to...well making the game into the sims.

The weapon customization looks good, I'm glad you can construct stuff and modify it, that's really neat and fits well in the universe, and of course the dog looks like a really nice addition.

Too much fluff, worryingly little substance on display, lets just really hope they nailed the core game and this side stuff is as they claim, really just optional extra stuff you can ignore.

Simply the most profitable month to release a game.
And they never miss their deadlines cause they don't care if a game is still riddled with bugs.

I watched through the E3 Showcase and here are some videos in case you dont want to sift through it

Fallout 4 E3 Trailers, they did not mention anything story related other than it starts pre-war, for the character customization, and that you emerge from the vault 200 years later. But there seems to be some Andriod/Synths as an enemy as some of the vids shows Synths as enemy

Male or Female Voiced Character.
Dog can be a companion and order to look and pickup stuff
VATS returns
First or 3rd person
Full weapon and Armor customization, build your own power armor
Ingame Pip-boy can play games, showed off clones of Donkey Kong and Missile Command

Collectors edition will come with the Pip-Boy model, that you can add a mobile phone into,
with the companion app.
