2-shot weapons are AMAZING for sniper type weapons. High base damage x2, single ammo usage. No recoil on the second shot, it shoots 2x for 1x recoil, so if your first hits the second does too.

Fully auto is more deadly with the splash weapon type I think. Explosive? There's a vendor weapon with it, spray n pray.

Not entirely sure on the recoil part. I was using a +25% combat rifle before switching to a
double-shot combat rifle.
The recoil is much harder to control now.

Also, I think I misread the double-shot thing. I didn't care much for it initially because I thought it was "chance to double-shot" instead of every shot being double.

I would much rather have a bunch of categories (defense, farming, stores, etc.) that you contribute resources toward and then that part of the settlement is pre-generated and worked by settlers. I just want to press a button for defense level 1, defense level 2, or farming level 3 and have it all appear.

I do not want to have to think about every piece, part, and person that something needs.

I enjoy the building part more than the managing part, and I am more concerned about my own hideout than the condition of the settlements. For me it scratches a creative itch, and allows me to make the world more personal. I find that it enhances the immersion.

Maybe recoil on a follow up shot, but I'm talking about recoil between the "2 shot". Both bullets hit the exact same spot. That's why it's amazing for sniper rifles. You don't need a follow up shot with 2-shot in most cases.

Okay, ya, I noticed that the first shot seemed to have perfectly overlapping bullet holes when testing it out -- this was point-blank though.

See, I'm not creative. :\

And that's OK.

There are game reasons to build settlements, but they're not really required.

That other people enjoy the creative aspects of building settlements doesn't mean you have to futz with them.

All I was saying was that, even if you're not into it yourself, the popularity of the feature should surprise no one.

Ugh... I'm liking the building/settlement side of things (for the most part) more than I expected, so the local leader perk would be very useful. Unfortunately with my build I didn't put any extra points into charisma, so I'll have to dump 5 or so in there just to get local leader.

I'm thinking I'll just worry about Sanctuary for now and not go out of my way to help/establish new settlements. I'll play the other missions as I traditionally play Fallout, and as I level up I'll put a point into charisma if I don't feel like I need anything else at the time. I'll probably get bored with the game before this point, but we'll see.

I also caved and ordered an R9 380 4gig card, which should give me a nice boost and get all the textures loaded properly.

OK - how good is this, and if I still have yet to play the FO3 games I bought years ago, is it worth skipping ahead to this? It's on sale for $32.96 from Amazon.

Anybody else notice that since the new Beta update you can no longer "spin" an object when in Builder mode in order to place/orient it properly?

I'm sorry, did you just ask what's the point of a giant penis light that ejaculates?o_O
:D Now I'm glad I didn't watch the Youtube video as that's . . . not exactly on my Christmas list either.

Yes. It's an awfully good game, it in no way requires or builds on your earlier Fallout experience, and unlike Fallout 3 and New Vegas, it works very well and is very stable without modding.

Assuming you really like it, then you can go back and pick up Fallout 3 and New Vegas on the cheap. However, both take a LOT of modding for most people to run stable and be fun.

I would say that if he jumps right to FO4, then there's no reason to go back to the other games. While good games, the experience is so similar that I don't see him getting much out of them. Plus they haven't aged the best visually, and while mods can help it I just don't see why you'd go back.

So I think he could jump into FO4 right now no problem, I wouldn't bother with the older ones after that. That's just me though... I'm sure others are bigger fans than I was.

if the settlement building portion appeals to you go ahead and buy it. i enjoyed the main storylines of fallout3 & new vegas but fo4's feels pretty generic.

From my perspective it's an awesome game. Not without it's flaws, but awesome. You'll get different opinions here naturally, but overall it's fair to say that it's considered a big hit.

Finally decided to "creative" and build stairs with landing to get to the overpass above Finch farm. You were obviously supposed to be able to get there when building because there were 2 old rusted out vehicles on the overpass that you can scrap for steel.

I think it is funny that some settlers will use a set of new built stairs without any issues and others basically freeze and don't know what to do.

The latest Beta update also did not fix the PIP-Boys total fail at reporting accurate Data of settlements. Example : Pip-boy says 41 settlers/ 63 happiness/ 25 beds - fast travel - and find 22 settlers/ 84 happiness/25 beds. Really !!

Argh. I'm close to level 50 with VERY LITTLE progress made in the main storylines. Anybody else in this trap?

I've got a nice money making machine made in sanctuary and have the investor perk. So, I start the day by selling product and getting about 10,000 caps. Preston will usually cross my path and send me on a mission. I run out, finish the mission, come back, drop off my junk, and it's evening, so I sleep, and repeat!

Or I finally scramble out to try to make some progress, but I'll come by a firefight, grab the spoils, and have to go back to drop off. And it's evening...

Or I find a new settlement. Then I'll have to establish with vendors, blow my cap stash and crafting materials... So I head back to Sanctuary.

It's my OCD. I can't NOT do this stuff! I'm not complaining. I'm having fun. This game will last me ages. :) Come to think of it. I spent 75% of my time in WoW in the auction house making money. :)

Pretty much, I was about 65 by the time I really started the story quests after exploring doing companion quests, misc quests etc.

Got tired of Preston's nagging so the way I ignored it is to do one of them, complete it to the point of saying talk to Preston and then just left it there. It will auto complete after a while but that is fine at least I will not get on from him again.

Also keep Radio Freedom off too so you don't get those random quests.

By the time i finished the game I was around 82-85 depending on which way I go. I made a save before the major choice.

I was given a "clear the raiders" quest in the excavation thicket (How far down do you think it goes?) and cleared everything, but the quest isn't completing. I think I killed one of the mirelurks while it was in the in the pen and still green. (murderer!) That's the only "odd" thing that's happened. Otherwise, I've combed every bit of it and the surrounding area. Anyone else that have this problem?

I think I've passed three game days... Is this going to clear itself? Or do I need to do a little console digging?
