Played some more. I don't have the patience for the full RPG experience, so instead of getting frustrated I just added more carry weight via console. If they're gonna finally give me a reason to use all this junk, I'm not going to bother trying to balance giving stuff to my companions and all that.

What are the vaultec luncboxes for? You get a message saying you collected one, but don't really know.
Bottlecap mines. They're the most powerful landmine you can construct, almost as powerful as the Nuke mine which you can't build, and they only require Demolitionist-1 to build. The main limitation is that they require a Vault Tec lunch box to make.

Has anyone had trouble with hi res textures not loading? They're set to ultra but often I'll be exploring a building and notice most of the walls seem to be medium or low. There's been a few times that I've noticed them load as I'm looking at them, so sometimes they pop in late and some times they seem like they don't load at all.

I only have a gtx 570 so I wasn't expecting to run on ultra, but it seemed to handle itself fine in the framerate department.

I've seen that in a few places. It's a big world and I expect those are QA issues, and not runtime errors.

So do "cleared" areas reset? I swear I already cleared Medford Hospital for a kidnapping quest, but I got sent there for another last night and the area was reset.

Also, ran into two bugs last night and one other that might be one: a gun turret that started looping the firing sound while showing the idle animation. Had to reload to stop it. And I finished a quest for Ten Pines but when I got back there I couldn't complete it. Everyone just kept saying "Hey thanks for helping with the raiders" when I clicked on them. Couldn't trade items or interact in any other way until I reloaded.

Lastly, the one I am not sure about, went to rearrange some crops in Sanctuary last night and I could only highlight and move about 1/4 of what I'd planted. The rest just acted like other objects that you can't move.

I've definitely had cleared areas reset, though it takes days or weeks. They might reset sooner if you get a new quest assignment for that building.

I'd need to re-load to check, but I think there were some pre-placed melons or gourds in a Sanctuary house backyard, they might not be movable.

Yep, total reset. Not just enemies, all the crap respawns too. I've strip-mined essentially every locale that I've visited and they are full again when I go back after a few days.

Probably discussed before... but I don't who decided on the spawn locations for settlement attacks... It's so annoying to have them spawn right inside the buildable-zone. Some settlements appear to get it right by having them spawn outside.

Pretty sure they had a monkey code that. I have fast traveled to help and had 3 super mutants right on top of me.

Some spawned right in the middle of the settlement, some spawned outside. I've had suicide super mutants spawned right next to me when I fast traveled, messy business.

The "fast travel right next to an invader" issue is the main reason I relocate the fast travel point. Usually to somewhere enclosed and theoretically safe.

Yeah I have only gotten lucky maybe twice where when getting a mission from one of the settlements I had already cleared the location. But specially if clearing it was a mission before, it will almost always reset immediately for the new mission.

Cleared areas reset after three days, except for the ones that show up as cleared in your pipboy. Those will be permanently cleared.

Anyone know any secrets for distributing power inside a structure? I have the building of exterior grids down, but I am still pretty confused over what causes a section of a structure to become electrified. For exterior walls it seems to be having any connector to that section. What about floors and roofs for standing and hanging lamps? Last night I noticed that simply placing a pylon on the lower deck of the bridge at Greygarden caused a large chunk of the structure to become powered, so that I could just stick lights onto the concrete piers and they illuminated.

Hmm, well I'm pretty sure Medford Hospital showed up as cleared and was reset when I got a kidnapping quest for it. I'll see if it happens again and I can pin it down.

I think some missions reset, others don't. I have seen it where they give me a mission and I say "yeah, just did that" and get the reward/complete step. Others like a hostage missions always resets, I think.

I know for certain that's not true. I lost count of the times I cleared the Corvega factory and had it show up as "cleared" on the Pipboy. It reset itself multiple times. I've had plenty of other sites show up as "Cleared" in the pipboy and then reset later.

I suspect the only areas that remain clear are settlements. I cleared Hangman's Alley early in playthrough 1, and it remained clear for the rest of the game even though I didn't move anyone in for ages.

Yeah, the entire wall has concrete foundations. The wooden-stilt foundation is porous, if there's enough headroom enemies can walk right through them. Fences can help with that and are a bit more resource-efficient, but aren't very practical when the hills are as steep as they are at Somerville Place. They'll work for something that's flat or nearly flat.

Besides, if I was going to do walls like this, I figured it was largely an aesthetic project, and the concrete bases allow for much nicer looking walls.
Man, that is incredible. Congrats.

Highly aggravating to clear an area and then get a quest right back to it. First couple of times it was only partial resets - maybe because I was low level - but mostly it's 100% or near.

Not to mention which, how the hell are these kidnappings taking place within a fully enclosed, heavily defended settlement? Obviously the raiders and the settlers are in on it together.

The "fast travel right next to an invader" issue is the main reason I relocate the fast travel point. Usually to somewhere enclosed and theoretically safe.
Hmm, that's a good idea.

I have Fallout Aids.

I finally found out why my character has incurable mole rat disease. It's from a quest in Vault 81 or something, and I chose the option where I permanently affected my character. Didn't even know I had the disease, that's why I chose to give away the cure.

Here's the thing about Mole Rat disease, which I'm not going to hide because it's something the game really ought to tell you before you start into that area: you can get it from your companion. The basic mechanic is that if you get bitten even once, you get it. If your companion gets bitten, you get it. Presumably because you're sharing fluids or something. If you activate a Protectron and the Protectron gets bitten, you get it. I don't want to speculate what it is you're doing with the Protectron afterward to get infected.

The upshot of this is that before you venture into an area full of infected Mole Rats, dismiss your companion. The positive side is that disease-ridden Mole Rats are only in one place in the game, and you'll know about it before you go in.

The other thing is that while it's permanent, it's really not that bad. It's more like Fallout Herpes than Fallout AIDS, since it's -10 HP.

I blew through this game when I first got it and cheated. I restarted from the beginning without cheats and its such a much better game. Already have 200+ hours in it and have not used the console once. So many more missions opened up now that I am not plowing through the game.
