Tickets are a big revenue. Millions of dollars come in due to tickets. Now calculate if one cop gets run over. The insurance rate increase would be negligable compared to the income from the ticket revenue. Not a hard choice to make. Police have been know to be lemmings and will do whatever their supervisor tell them to do, even if it is dangerous.

I hope you are kidding or don't operate a motor vehicle. Most jaywalking laws are based directly on a pedestrian's right of way "except where a specified crossing is provided." Cars do not own the road.
What? It's not jay walking if you randomly walk across a street that doesn't have a nearby crosswalk?

I always thought cars owned the roads, and I'm not joking.

The cop car was clearly marked and in plane sight, both officers are in full uniform, I don't see a problem here. If you speed down the street and don't see the cops you deserve the ticket. Either you are going too fast or not paying attention.

Their car was only visible once people passed the street, if they were even looking that direction. Usually when I'm driving, I'm looking in front of me as I'm driving.

Could always play dumb and act like you didn't see them.

When I was a teenager, I rolled through a stop sign and there was a cruiser parked along the road ahead of me.

He turned his yellow lights on. Wasn't sure if he wanted me to pull over or not, so I just turned on the street before I passed him.
