I don't see the big deal. It's not like the cop was in the middle of the road and couldn't have jumped out of the way. It's a 30 mph street.

As for the people decrying 35 in a 30, it looked pretty residential. Use your fucking speedometer if you don't want a ticket. Could they be lenient? Sure. MUST they be? No. And if they were always lenient (and often they are, here) for 5 over, people would always drive 5 over.

Hell, I regularly drive 5-10 over because I fully expect it'd be ignored.

The guy with the camera was a douchebag. Well within his rights, but still a douchebag for doing that.

He should have been arrested for impeding the cops ability to do his job - IE harassing him.

I don't understand where this idea came from where it is acceptable to harass people while they do their job.

Ok, so you think it is stupid. And?
If you *have to* film it, film it for 30 seconds and leave it at that.

The cop didn't even look like he stepped out into the street. Granted it is kinda dumb (seeing that last car slam on its brakes) but for all we know, it might have been one of the cameraman's friends (considering how douchey he was acting).

This. If you look at the seam in the pavement and extrapolate a bit, it looks like he's standing at the edge of the road, not farther out than someone would be if they were walking along the curb. The driver of the red car was a moron.

Flagging down drivers on foot is not unusual, illegal or inherently unsafe on a road with a 30 mph speed limit.

lol @ Nik accusing the cop of harassing the guy in the blue truck.

Cameraman is a complete douche. I don't get what his point was, other than to put a video on the internet and look cool to the cop haters. He was clearly trying to get some kind of reaction for his video.

:p

I've learned that cops are bigger hypocrites than the people they pull over. That taints (TEE HEE) my view. My rose-colored glasses, so to speak. If I were the guy in the truck, I'd probably have given the guy with a cam a verbal pat on the back on camera while scolding the cop to go find some real criminals instead of harassing locals.

Interestingly enough, one of the closest friends of the family to me is a recently retired officer from my hometown that used to do what I would describe as "the job proper" while I was growing up.

Houston native.. and live with an HPD officer.
this is common practice in alot of the areas with surface street speeding issues.
there will usually be several officers at the location processing different speeders.
the one with the Radar/laser will flag down the offenders and another officer or officers will process the speeder and the process continues. But yes solo officers do this as well.

I don't see the issue myself.. if you are going that fast and or distracted and cannot see a Officer in BLUE with a radar gun standing in front of you.. you deserve the ticket.

They do this on the Frontage road in the Galleria alot.

If somebody were going 50mph and the officer jumped out in the road and was struck by the car, who would be liable?

Guy filming was obnoxious but he has a point. I'm pretty certain if a driver didn't stop in time and hit the officer they'd be charged with attempted vehicular homicide or something.

technically in almost all places if an emergency vehicle / personnel are on the roadside you are supposed to slow down if you are in their immediately adjacent lane.

I do agree some of these cops are nutty, I have been stopped like this and not knowing what I was supposed to do.

public safety should be important.

without it, we'd be no better than 3rd world countries with our traffic.

wreckless driving and/or patrolling is not a good idea.

They should at least move away from the corner to do this. That's the most dangerous part.

The police didn't seem to bad there. They step out into traffic here too, don't speed if you don't want a ticket. Guy filming was a dick. You could tell that cop wanted to stick a taster up his ass.

The cop car was clearly marked and in plane sight, both officers are in full uniform, I don't see a problem here. If you speed down the street and don't see the cops you deserve the ticket. Either you are going too fast or not paying attention.

While I think the guy filming should work for Fox News, I also think the officers could have gone about this a little better. Couldn't they pull them over on the next block rather than RIGHT HERE!@!!!?

I've seen this in Dallas, at the bottom of a long hill, where the officer's stepped into the middle lane of a 6 lane road (3 lanes each direction) to flag drivers down. It is extremely dangerous, but I guess they need to justify their paychecks somehow.

I do like the analogy to a stagecoach robber.

Nothing wrong with what the police are doing. The were very professional when the camerman started antagonizing them and polite even though he was being a jerk to them. Just like he has the right to film, they have the same right as anyone to refuse to say something on the record (especially when you might be trying to use what they say against them). They were not in any danger and the speeds reported by the cameraman were not confirmed (how would he know?). Find some police that are actually misbehaving and post THAT video.
