Everybody's got that one turd sitting on their hard drive. What's yours?

You know - that game that you've lost interest in but can't get yourself to uninstall; you've made it pretty far and you know you'll never install it again if you give up on it now.

I just flushed one of mine - finally made myself finish FEAR 2 last night. It's been sitting there staring me in the face since one of those STEAM sales.

I knew I was close to the end, but I had no idea that for the past 3 or 4 months it's been idle I've only had about 10-15 minutes to go.

To be fair - it's not an altogether terrible game in spots, but imo it can't hold a candle to the original. I can't see myself ever playing this game again.

I've had games for a decade now that I haven't even started yet. I can't bring myself to uninstall them. I'm nostalgic like that.

Shogun 2. I just can't get into it even though I love the TW series. I really don't care about historic Japan.

Batman AA, I don't know, It was OK, but I could never say "hey, I wanna play this now" and whenever I think of uninstalling it, I just think I should finish it 1st just cause everyone says its so good.

I have very few turds.

But a lot of awesome games that are collective virtual dust (or real, if I actually bought the physical disc).

I simply rarely finish games. I'll usually get really far into them sometimes, but may reach a frustrating point that is hard to get past, or maybe I simply got busy for a few days and then never touched it again (because most games I'll play almost exclusively for a certain period of time, and then a couple weeks later, it begins it's period of rest and aging.. forever).

One of these days I'll finish HL2 (somewhere past halfway), which is probably one of my oldest games still sitting there waiting to be finished. Fallout 3, Bioshock, Killzone 2 (almost finished), Killzone 3, Crysis, Starcraft 2, World in Conflict, etc etc etc. And that's probably only a quarter of the games I have waiting to be finished - and likely never going to finish half of them.

I haven't uninstalled Fable III yet.
I keep thinking of actually finding those last few books and gnomes, but then I realize it would just be a waste of time.
I reinstalled Borderlands + DLCs instead and having a blast with that again. (Using no reload/rapid fire makes this playthrough more fun!)

I just did a clean windows install last week so mine is clean. I did have Crysis 2 installed and just couldn't seem to finish it and thought about uninstalling it a few times though. Not that I thought it was that bad, just seemed too much like Crysis mixed with a bunch of other games I've already played.

FarCry 2

I keep telling myself that I'll load it up and go do some crazy stuff and just explore, but I've hardly touched the game, I found the respawning to absolutely kill it for me.

Haha. I have this and just played it once. It's such a huge step backwards from Civ4, but my faith isn't quite gone, yet.

I'll read the patch notes when they release another update.

So far, I've been saying "..Not yet" to actually playing it, after finishing reading the notes. Maybe one of these upcoming months..

bioshock. got to "the end" and then just said "fuck it"

other games i have not touched:

Riddick Assault on Athena
KOTOR I
Painkiller
Call of Juarez
Serious Sam II

Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes. Like many a video game story starts these days, I bought it with mild interest because it was like $3 on a Steam sale.

The humor is basically over-the-top video game cliches, which I don't find that funny, and I'm not a fan of the genre of the game. I fire it up every once in awhile to see if I've suddenly grown a newfound appreciation for the game but every time it's the same: I shut it off within 5-10 minutes.

Dragon Age : Origins
Witcher 1
Two Worlds 2 (admittedly never played the 1st)

I wouldn't really call any of them 'turds', but for a variety of reasons I just couldn't get into them, though I do like the RPG genre.

Half Life 2: The original, Ep. 1 and 2.

Just can't get into it: I like FPS', don't get me wrong; but there's just something about those games I just can't get into.

Made myself play HL2 several times and was 90% done, but was sidelined by HDD upgrades, other games or what else have you.

I wouldn't call it a "turd" but I guess I don't like the overly-scripted gameplay.

Now if you're asking about games gathering e-dust in my Steam listing . . ..

I have never beat most games I own. HL2 is one that I should beat at some point but just haven't gotten around to it, starts off too slow.

Man, what is it about those of us that just struggle to get through some games...even good ones?

I haven't beaten:

Morrowind
Dead Space
Rainbow 6: Vegas
Starcraft 2
Bioshock 2
Grand Theft Auto 4
FarCry 2 - admittedly, this game pales in comparison to the original
Dragon Age: Origins
Stalker: SOC
Company of Heroes - I really loved this one, but a patch rendered my saves useless and I never touched it again.

And there are many more, I'm sure - just can't think of them. Time to get playing!

I nominate UT3 (Unreal Tournament 3), not because it's bad relative to other modern games that are also consolized, but because of what it could have been and should have been and what it represents--encroaching consolization, the death of any hope for a real sequel to the greatest FPS game of all time (the original UT99), and increasing consolzation of PC games. In the state UT3 was released in, it really was a stillborn turd.
