...they've had more than one album...

Amy Lee can sing .. there's no arguing that. They also have some pretty good guitar licks.

Like alot of bands, Creed, Nickelback, etc .. all of their songs sound the same.

My Immortal is a pretty good song, but I like the radio version alot better since it kicks in at the end with the whole band.

I just grabbed a bunch of nightwish demos. All I can say is... I thought I was at the opera. You guys usually link some good bands... what happened ?

Well at long last...here's thawolfman in the Evanescence thread! :D (If you don't remember my fanatacism, here's my Long Archived Evanescence Thread! with plenty of dead links!)

Anyways, I'm long over my insane obsession with the band, and in particular, Amy Lee, but I still love the music. The stuff from Fallen definitely got old fast, but with the amounts of unreleased, demo, and other material that I have, I really can't let go of the sound that pulled me in to start.

I never was really one to fight with the haters, and I still won't. You're all entitled to your opinion, and I'm fine with that. I've also listened to similar music that was recommended, namely Lacuna Coil, and it just didn't do it for me. I haven't checked out Nightwish yet, but I'm sure I'll get around to it! :)

So, to answer dwells original question...I can honestly answer that I don't know. Were they a fad? Maybe. Do they have staying power? Maybe. That can only really be told with a second (actually third) album. But regardless of what they do with their next album, I'll always have their old stuff to listen to, and that's just fine with me.

Alas, 'tis my duty to my fellow Evanescence fans, and hey, even for the haters: http://www.black-wolf.net/LoftShow/

And you just can't deny thawolfman's personal favorite: Groupie or Not, here I am!

Dude, it's obvious she wanted you... look at her lean!

The guy behind you ... I think you broke his heart.

Is it true what I hear, she's the only original member left?

If so, I'm disappointed. I kinda get the impression the others left because of her showboating.

There really were no others in the band besides her and the guitarist (who decided to leave sighting musical direction differences). They brought along 2 other guys who they often used only on tour.

I must say though... when I heard her accepting awards, it was always "me" and "I". She's the founder and all, but you still have to accept it as a band.

Band threads are about as useless as political threads because all the opinions start vomiting out. ;)

She's got a great voice, and I enjoy the album still. The military radio station over here sucks so I haven't had to endure the music being overplayed.
